Autopsy North lose to Carlton.

Wasn't expecting a win but I was really hoping for a better performance.
That was one of the most flattening experiences as a long time North supporter that I can remember.
Got to 3 qtr time and thought 'feck it' lets go to the Social Club. Lots of good North people in there sharing the look of shared pain. Went to the toilet and a bloke in his 20's came out of the cubicle in tears. Had a bit of chat with him but he was pretty inconsolable.
Stopped at a good pub and 3 or 4 pints made the world feel better. Not sure this is medically approved.

Good observation. We really do seem to hesitate for that split second too long and by then the ball is lost or again in dispute.
It’s the most noticeable point of difference with the opposition in recent weeks. Their flow and speed of movement versus our constant stopping and propping.

In both cases it’s a lack of running that’s the root cause. We don’t create space in attack and we don’t close down space in defence.

So true, we are like statues out there. Nobody moving or creating space.

I've never heard Xerri speak, but if he can string a sentence together I'd make him your captain...need someone the young guys can follow into battle.

Alao throw Daniel in the bin and move heaven and earth to get Vlastuin for 2-3 years. As Shoresy says, you gotta set the tone.

Anyway, stick fat and good luck.

Regarding the 20 year old in the cubicle he might want to try a laxative if he is struggling to choke one out Frank?

Went to the GWS - Saints game last week at Norwood.

It was really noticeable at a suburban ground how hard the GWS players work when they don’t have the ball, whether in defence or offense.

In the third quarter, they just broke the Saints through work rate.

Today, Wardlaw showed everyone up in the team. Sure his disposal was scrappy and he made mistakes, but only he played to an AFL intensity at all times.

That is the benchmark; I don’t care about mistakes, but I want to see maximum effort and intensity at all times.

And if Clarkson and the assistants can’t get it from the team, I want them gone and Crocker and his chosen assistants given the chance to do so.

Nah, the poor bloke was genuinely upset. I was about to reach for some consoling comment but then realised I didn't have anything positive to say about North.

Ok well let’s say he is 21. Born in 2003. He was 12 in 2014-15. Basically seen shit his whole life. I would probably be crying as well.

at the end of the day you just can't pin your emotional wellbeing on the fortunes of a footy club you have no real control over. you need to have more in your life to fall back on or you'll be feeling like shit all weekend with no way of making it better. I've had to learn this the hard way, whether that's friends, lovers, hobbies, art, you need something. a lot of us could probably do with just switching off right now and maybe coming back next week if we feel up to it.

Umpires crucified us.

Wardlaw started hot. BOG in the end.

So good he’s back. Long term him. Has heart.

Are the umpires told to favour Carlton every Good Friday? It’s absolutely disgusting.

LDU getting a lot of attention & his disposal was shocking. I think this will change, but he’s had a big few weeks. He needs to get his shit together though.

Midfield got flogged in general. Aren’t they meant to be why ‘it’s going to turn’?

I’m fine with FOS taking the game on. Not sure if he got pinged more than once, but the one I seen, it should have been a free kick to Wardlaw a second earlier for head high. Umpiring was ****ed.

That Larkey (best set shot in the league mind you) play on snap & miss from 10m out in the first was an absolute coach killer. Not to mention a momentum killer.

Curtis looked dangerous. He’ll kick five in a GF one day. Can only hope it’s with us…

Our poor defenders get absolutely screwed by our pathetic midfield.

Our defence is C grade. At best.

Players punching it out instead of marking.
Players hamstrings.

When asked about Larkey’s game, Dermie mentioned, absolutely no system to how we go forward.

Darling needs a rest.

Copy & paste every week - our ****ing disposal is horrific.

For all the talk during the week about walking out of the ground before the game finishes, today would have pushed me to my absolute limit if I was there. Was very close to turning the TV off at 3/4 time.

Dark day for the club. A very dark day.

I was so looking forward to this. They’ve let me down again.

I didn’t turn the TV off, but for the last quarter it was on with music playing as I cooked the family some delicious Barramundi.

My daughter (6 years old) walked through the lounge room as I threw my North hat into the couch & asked “are we winning?” & I’m happy she still says ‘we’ & not ‘you’ but, I am sick to death of saying “No mate, we are going to lose again.”

My almost 2 years old old lad, who absolutely loves ball sports already, sat in my lap for the first quarter & when Curtis kicked our first he yelled excitedly because I did & then actually hugged me.

Today should have been my father’s 66th birthday, but he died at 52. Some of the best memories with him are us at the footy. I really want my kids to see some wins. This is killing me!

Then I got the train to Alberton & watched the Panthers lose to the Power reserves.

A bad Friday all round.

I’ve had 15 beers though, so it could be worse I guess.

This club (and the AFL whose umpires adjudicate clubs differently depending on who they are) are lucky that my son is obsessed with football, because I was otherwise done today.

There was one highlight - getting an unprompted hug from my 10-year old in the third quarter as I sat there shaking my head while we made the Carlton midfield look like they did in the days of Ashman, Johnston, Marcou, et al.

Can someone change the thread title?

The umpires had zero influence on this result.

It’s ****ing embarrassing that it’s lasted this long.
Hard disagree.
When the game was still in the balance they had a big impact.
It’s not even a one eyed view. It’s like the umps are told to make sure Carlton don’t lose this game.

Is the gameplan to handball to a player who is under pressure? Cos we did that about 15 times as a minimum.
I come in peace. Without being patronising, I know from recent hurt/memory what it is like to have my team give performances like this.

It looked to me that that were few times when the player with the ball had more than one option to handball to. the Carlton players knew and were ready to pounce as the reciever got the ball. Many HTB decisions ensued.
