It played no part in the sentencing as I said earlier the judge couldn’t care less about Balta playing afl it wasn’t a consideration at all either way that’s why she didn’t change the sentence to allow him to play either

It was completely irrelevant, the same as any other person who receive similar curfews in sentencing as I said before if it was a factor she would of included other measures to ensure he didn’t play any games night day or otherwise

I think Balta putting himself up to play and Richmond / AFL allowing him to play shows a sense of arrogance and lack of remorse that the Magistrate clearly picked up on. I read it as - you're not taking this seriously, here's something that will actually impact you (and the organisation that platforms you).

Hardwick did a press conference in QLD yesterday and made a big statement about how we in Victoria and all premiers in all states etc should be tougher on crime. Contradicts himself as Balta didn’t loose his job - didn’t go to jail and had all the resources and support of Richmond available to him including lawyers etc. There is a general feeling that he got off quite lightly. If that was me I would have lost my job and so would many others. I would not have had the privileges of that support and resources.. The video footage is terrible. Hardwick can’t complain about not being touch on crime.

I don’t know the circumstances re Tanner and given there’s a suppression order that is probabtaly there to protect the victim I have no idea of the situation.

Didn't see it. But QLD just elected a new govt, "tough on crime", NSW govt just introduced anti hate laws. The whole country got an issue with parole ~Jill Meagher in Victoria, Hannah Clarke in Brizzy.

End of the day the victim sustained broken ribs, and needed stitches. One charge of assault laid. If the injury was greater then a harsher penalty. CCO on Balta.

Balta is also up for $35k that you wouldn't have to pay for the PTSD.

A curfew can be appealed if its going to affect your work.

People have in this thread. Even the media is downplaying his actions in a poor him scenario for no night games or interstate games. Not implying you have, but gosh some people dont see the severity of what he did. Sam Kerr copped more bad press from media in victoria and aus for verbal abuse to a police officer

Pretty wild I know, but it's actually pretty easy to do when you can interpret what people say and infer intention from it. You should try it some time.

They always say that, but there's a difference between "genuine remorse" and "genuine remorse".

The only remorse that counts is that considered by the judge. If it’s used in their sentencing decision, then it’s real.

Appealing to an unspoken and perceived majority is pretty weak. You can argue the court and AFL penalties were too lenient, but suggesting there’s another layer to consider is idiotic.

The curfew as a punitive measure is no different than a drunk/speeding driver having their licence taken away and the legal system not caring that they need it for their job. It's just one of those bad luck, if you get sacked it's your fault scenarios.

I've herd of more flexible curfews so the guilty party can attend work with a small amount of travel time to and from so not to lose their jobs than sorry bad luck.
