True... but there's no point being an elite kicker if we can't get our hands on the ball.

And turn about is fair play.

True... but there's no point getting the ball in your hands if you kick it straight back to the opposition.

I do think he has kept himself lean to try and be that flanker/wingman which is where they had him pencilled in for.

He’s not fast, but he does have a good tank. Ran a 6:04 2km in his draft year.
Yeah, I don't agree with this personally....At least not as a damaging wing. You need to be better at reading the play.

I'd much rather the see ball, get ball mentality...Think he could get pretty strong and be a good clearance player.

If your looking at mature age talent there isn't much on the shelf that have the kicking skills.
Parfitt 27 and in our backyard, average kick and contested player.
Erasmus 21 and in our backyard, contested player and average kick, OOC 2025.
D Robertson 23 almost 24 from WA, contested player and average kick, OOC 2025.

All wouldn't cost much but which 1 do we want if we are looking for a mature aged player to plug and play in the WAFL and be depth in AFL at worst I guess. Short term contract.

What else is it there and which player type do you want?
These types are like the MSD types imo, you find a decent player and hope there is upside.

Parfitt doesn't fit that mould, he is the player he is going to be.

Tom Evans in the MSD looks a really classy type with very good kicking skills and footy IQ, looks a HB/MID type and only 19 and needs some development of course.

It's really up to what the club wants and price paid in contract or draft capital for Erasmus and Robertson if they are options and the list profile if they fit?

Man we are going to be young if we bring in another 5-6 draftees this year!
WC are screaming out for a mature midfielder or 2 in the 22-25 yo bracket ASAP.
No we're not, go to the draft and get some elite talent.

Couldn't agree more

Let's split some more picks and grab more Baker's, Graham and owies and maybe in a few years we can entrench ourselves in the upper echelon of the bottom four.

When this occurs, we can pop the Chardonnay and celebrate that "we've made it".

Yep way to go
Give a Sam Swadling over those guys any day.
This kid is dual sided quick and just racks it up like no other WA kid in a long long time
in colts
40 possessions on the weekend against a star ridden Souths side
30 the week before then 36 week before that
Just knows where to go to get the footy his positioning is so good and has elite handball

Agree with going to the draft to get some more elite talent.
I was just posing a question of what's really out there and what we should do.
The draft is the critical part of the build and it has and will be.
So is trade and FA.
The big question is with us drafting another 5-6 this year and again next year, we are going to be a club of kids and virtually no meaningful mature talent around the midfield especially.
What 22-25yo talent do we bring in around our abundance of youth to complement and help them with mature bodies?

Agree, Swadling is a rising talent and should be very high on WC list.
We still need to add a couple of mature bodies to our midfield as we are going to be a club of more kids and that just adds to more inconsistency, more big losses, more of this for 3 more years until at least the best of the draftees get match ready.
Not advocating for any of those name I mentioned but that's what's available cheap.

I have, and will keep saying that unless we put some mature bodies around our draftees at the same time as drafting, we are going to be like an expansion GC very soon.
While not getting Warner allows us to draft more elite talent this year and next, we would be negligent to not add some mature talent to our list for the longer term.
This is the 22-25yo player who can fill the void we have in some of our positions.
It's not a draftee only policy to a build.

Hunt and Petruccelle I agree should be moved on

Cole I’m leaning towards keeping as he provides mature depth and is important around the club

Reserving judgement on Chesser until he comes back in a few weeks to see if he has a role in McQualter’s game plan - has the attributes but perhaps not the IQ
Yeah no way cole gets delisted, sure if he wants to move on fair enough but delisted..no

Gee, I reckon Harry Edwards will be thanking his lucky stars he was OOC last year and had a couple of clubs sniffing around.

Couldn't get a look in under Simpson unless desperate, dropped by McQualter and now, the final kicker, Will Schofield finally understands(this week) why he hasn't been getting a game, after raging about him not playing vs GWS and Carlton.

His form last year was pretty decent.

He’s better as an intercepting defender. I think Mini has him now playing back shoulder and that’s what he struggles with due to his lack of pace.

He needs to be able to do both. We can't just have a team full of intercepting defenders, especially one who doesn't read the ball as good as others. Case in point, Ben King's MOTY.

Simpson's comments have been pretty telling when talking about him this year - Not spoiling when he should, soft dropping the ball, going for marks at the wrong time, etc.

He sounded very exasperated when talking about him. He's 24(25 in October), he's not a kid who's still learning anymore.

Agreed.

TB was very similar type player (but of a better class) and he has talked about going to the Hawks and having to try and adapt his style and how hard it is. It gets even harder if you are trying to do this at the Eagles atm when the ball his coming in more and faster.

That’s why you have a reserves to go back on work on this stuff. Ideally you would have depth to come straight in.

TB's got similar speed to Edwards, as does McGovern.

What makes Edwards stand out so much is that he's just not as good at anticipating where the ball's going as the other 2 are, so he looks a mile off the pace if it's not kicked to a pack.

His hands also aren't as good, so he drops the ball at his feet, often resulting in a goal.
