Too late for the discount but I love my takumi sen for interval stuff and 5k races. Also have new balance rebel and endorphin speed 3, both of which I love for similar work. Rebels better for slightly slower stuff as they're plateless. Both rebel and speed also brilliant as daily trainers.

A left field one depending on how hard you want your intervals and how versatile you want your shoe, would be vaporfly 3. Available for 250 at the moment with the release of the 4.
Thanks for this, I'll file it away for next time I'm looking for some new shoes!

With Albert Park off-limits this weekend in Melbourne, where are people doing their long runs?

Tossing up between two options for my longy (6k WU, 2x5k @ HM pace, 6k CD)
  • Yarra Boulevard from Burnley to the Tan, pace sesh around the tan, then back to Burnley. Pros: shade given the heat, Tan is good for those pace reps. Cons: longer stretches without drink taps along Yarra Blvd
  • Elwood/Port Melbourne along the Bay. Pros: can jump in the water straight after / can just stay at the beach for the late morning, lots of nearby cafes for some refuelling after my sesh. Cons: less shade, pace reps will just be along the bay

open to other suggestions! Can drive, and have a free day ahead since my partner is away. I'm in the inner SE but open to exploring new areas. A post-run dip would be nice given the weather but not essential

I've had persistent pain behind my knee since the Melbourne marathon, it calms down after a bit of time off but it eventually comes back after a few runs. I believe it's hamstring related but really hard to pin point.

Have no idea where to go from here, thinking of having a solid two months off and just focus on strength work.
Based in Melb?

Go see one of the sports doc's at Olympic Park. They really fabulous. Get a diagnosis, plan to move forward. Scans available next door also. Generally bulked billed also.

We can waste so much time with local GPs, massage etc

On SM-S911B using BigFooty.com mobile app

Perth Purrfect Pussies

I have booked in with a sports doctor next week for further scans, my last scan was the knee but I'm thinking it's hamstring related.

Fingers crossed for some good news.

if you like the NB Rebel V4 then rebelsport are selling this colorway for $110 (50% off). no idea on size availability.

personally they don’t work for me.
they feel super squishy and unresponsive and the arch is uncomfortable.

Anyone tried any of the Chinese shoes?
Just ordered the Li-Ning Challenger 5s... Meant to be a super trainer, have seen really good reviews and they were only 120 bucks via Ali Express so worth the shy at the stumps I figure...

Be interested in your feedback and whether they fit to size

Not yet but I might have to bite the bullet and try out the Dynafish Danian soon. 150g race shoe for $150. Although the pointiness and narrowness of the shoe might not work for my feet

I haven’t tried them but for that price you might as well.
I’d be more wary about shopping at Ali Express than buying a Chinese brand shoe.

Super excited Kipchoge is running in Sydney.

Massive honour to line up in the same race as the great man, even if I will be a long way behind him!

me too, hoping if I can time it right might pass him on Oxford st as he is coming back in! starting 18 week program for Sydney on Monday, feeling in pretty good nick have had a decent pre-program block behind me with a couple recent races and some good volume over past couple months. how many of us are doing Sydney?

What time would you need to be at Oxford St to sight him do you think?

depend how far ahead the elites start, but Oxford St is about 15-17k mark on the way out and the 36-38k mark on the way back, and he's not quite twice as fast as me, so its possible!

Something to aim for!

The problem might be that we will have a handicap, in that we may not cross the start line for 5 or 10 min after the elite runners.

Yeah I figure that China probably already has all my data anyway 😂

fun workout this morning.
reps of 2k, 1600, 1200, 800, 400, 2k
rests of 5,4,3,2,1 minutes.
every rep gets quicker till the last 2k where you aim for about halfway between the first 2k and 1600…maybe a touch faster.

I’m too old and broken for proper short, sharp work and not fit enough for the longer stuff but this still makes me feel like I’m having a crack :)

What sort of pace was the first 2k at? 5k pace? Faster? Slower?

One of my favourite workouts is:

1km @ 5k pace
1 min rest
400m @ about 30 secs quicker than the 1km pace
3 min rest

Repeat 3 or 4x. Got it from the running channel and it has always (probably done it 5 times, every few months) just about broken me but felt great after.

about 5k pace.
as a general guide if the last rep is close to (or under) the 1600 pace then you went out too easy. if it’s close to (or over) the first 2k then you went out too hard.

I love that post workout feeling. My watch plays a little jingle when you’re done and it’s the sweetest sound in the world.

I’ll have a go at the one you posted in the next couple of weeks and report back.

Got the shoes today... fortunately i had some thin socks on at work so managed to try them on and do a few little wanky jogs across the shed.
Fit is true to me, shoes are insanely light, the upper is a really breathable mesh so much so that i could feel the air as i walked... Quick little jog and they felt really bouncy and springy.
Already i am thinking obviously not a long run shoe, but something shorter where i crack out some surges/intervals and they should go well.

The look bloody incredible in person to be honest

I forked out for a 12 month Runna sub late last year, just started an 18 week Mara program this week (already did a marathon and a half marathon program using the app previously). The thing I love most about the app is the variety in interval and tempo runs. Don’t have to think at all and each week it throws up new one that are always super challenging. Big fan of it, expensive sub but if you can afford and are regularly training for events it worth checking out.

Yeah I got a runna sub for Christmas. Used it to train for Ballarat marathon. I've loved the variety of workouts it gives too. Next week I'll start a new plan for Sydney marathon, with some b races incorporated into the plan. A 5km pb attempt in early June and half mara pb attempt in July, probably run melbourne.

cheap price, pretty quick delivery, good fit and looks fire.
not gonna lie, I’m a little bit jealous…hopefully they run well.

I’ve barely had a decent run in 6-8 months. Lots of niggles and too much work. But I went the $$ option and thought new shoes fixes all

4 months to Sydney and a lot of work to do

I got out for the first time in 4 months last night.

Was as bad as I knew it would be. Got 2 kids under 2 and have been stress eating during the time off so I've put waaaaay too much weight on.

Back to the grind.

Took these bad boys out for a run this morning.
8k which included 10 x 30 seconds hard/easy.

Did have to stop after a KM and adjust the laces, just had them done up a bit snug and there is no real cushion in the upper and tongue.. Sorted that out and settled in well, I had no issues at all with stability to start with which is a good sign, they are stupidly light, I had my run set to do the first 3k easy then hit my efforts, and to be honest around that 2-3km i was just happy enough, not blown away.. nothing special.. but when it came to the efforts goodness me.. they absolutely shone for me, super easy to pick the pace up and felt like they were made for it, light springy and fast is how they felt. I probably cooked myself a touch going too quick (and combined with the un-seasonaly warm 18 degrees at 6am) so i was blowing up, but they just felt good going quick, then after the efforts felt good in general to be honest.

Will be interesting to see how they hold up and if they get better or worse but especially considering the cost i am really happy, I had been doing my session type runs with pick ups and intervals with my Endorphin Pros, and i will give them a go in these shoes now and save the better shoes for better things!
