Geelong's cap should have already pricked the attention of the AFL. They keep bring in players and then still talk about a whole heap of other players coming in as if their cap is unlimited. I'd be cavity searching some of those player's financials.

Oliver is gettable. Swans are the perfect fit. They're a bit soft, and an inform Oliver could deliver a flag. Oliver is not working for the Dees. The Dees is not working for Oliver. I think Melbourne (the city) is not working for Oliver.

West Coast should:

1. Ask the question of his management
2. Hire a PI and see what he's up to. If he has a drug problem, the put a line through him. If he's just a dick, we're in a position to take anyone at the moment.
3. Offer to pay 70% of the contract, but re-jig it to have more on the front end
4. The deal must be done for a pick over 50. It's basically a salary and dickhead dump for them.
If, and it's an if, he has a coke problem, then Sydney is certainly not the city for him.

1. I honestly don't think we'd even enquire
2. If we did and he's interested there's no harm in checking it out
3. If we somehow did get him and he brought his best footy he's a machine and would make us better instantly

but yeah 1... I don't think we'll bother but hope we check all boxes before writing him off

I've been thinking about this for awhile. Our midfield is not getting any better, and while it should be the #1 position of need in the draft, I think we need to be more strategic about how we target ready-made ball-winning mids.

I would look long and hard at the Suns, who are stacked in that area of the ground and will only get stronger. Picks are irrelevant to them given Zeke Uwhland is touted top-3 pick.

If Oscar leaves, handing us another top 5 pick, could we use our second-rounder (or ours and Hawthorn's) to prise Sam Flanders out of the Gold Coast? Ready-made ball-magnet in the right age bracket who is being played out of position. Not to mention a Vic Country boy so no real ties to Melbourne. He's clean, racks it up and is smart around goals. These are the guys we should be targeting - with respect to Jack Graham and Liam Baker - bonafide mids. Would love your thoughts
This.
With Warner chase being delayed for 2 years I would be going after best available and gettable mids that can make our side better next year.
Kelly and Yeo are almost done WC should be chasing players of the calibre of Flanders and Ward, or even both.
Seems to be a reluctance on here to name A or B grade players on here that would complement our team and their price.
I think you are not too far off with Flanders, our 2nd round and Hawks 2nd should be enough and offer him a decent contract and he looks to have upside if played in our midfield.
The same with Ward, has big upside, couple of years younger at almost 22 and would cost around our 2nd round pick.
Draft, draft, draft kids is not the answer to short term problems, it is the answer to a long term team of talent.
Get 1 or both of Flanders and Ward and draft top end mids with our 1st 2 picks in 2025 imo.

Why isnt Archer Reid in the discussion for ruck?

Great mobility, awesome contested mark and 203cm is the size needed, just needs to fill out a bit more which won't be far away at all.
I think A Reid will either be an elite ruck or KPD player, he looks totally 2-3 years away from competing with big bodies but we have a great player in 1 of those positions.

Get ready for the Gettable take this week.

Blues should target Ryan he will be ‘cut price’.

Don’t listen to the noise about teams need picks for Harley, if Harley chooses to leave even contact Harley will get to where ever he nominates (from Cal) and Hawks and Cats lead the race and he’s number 1 on their boards. Names nearly every Vic side will be in a ge hunt if he leaves and even mentions the Bombers, because teh have the picks.

Very un Connors stable client to leave a club high and dry after being Drafted and being contracted. Prep for 3 picks on the late 20s and 30s for Harley

And this years draft appears to
Lack depth and star quality

Really disappointing shallow and unashamedly biased commentary from Twomey and Beveridge, generally those guys rise above the Vic bias. They fail to explain how the said chosen Vic club will force a trade on WCE when Harley is contracted till the end of next year.

Even next year, if Harley’s coming out of contract, the club needs to control the narrative and make it absolutely clear to Harley that they will only work with clubs that can satisfy our demands.

If he does request a trade at years end, the statement from WC should just be.

“A contracted player has requested a trade from WC. We will endeavour to facilitate this as a matter of goodwill, however we will not consider this request in any circumstance unless an offer we deem significant is received. As is the case with all our contracted footballers; we will continue to support Harley regardless of the outcome.”

The media coverage regarding a Harley trade is basically the exact same as the pick 1 discourse 2 years ago, which portrayed us on the back foot and no choice but to trade and take what we can get. Obviously noise coming from Melbourne clubs. I suspect our strategy will be similar to pick 1 and we'll hang on to him another year barring a massive massive offer (assuming he isn't signing). We don't have to trade him to Geelong for just whatever.

Agree, the worry is the narrative is in full force right now and why?

Is he close to signing abd they are trying to change his mind? Off the back of Woosha interview.

Have they got word from his manager that he is going to seek a trade so plant the seed early?

Are they most likely just trying to get clicks?

The Flyn Ryan at ‘cut price’ to the blues from a massive Blues supporter was next level.

I tend to agree with Twomey. 90% of the time the player gets to where they want to go, even when they’re contracted.

Everyone was asking how Port would get the deal for JHF done without losing players for eg.

I have no idea whether Harley stays or goes, but based on precedent if he want to go to the cats or hawks he will likely get there.

For Carlton, the cut price could be salary. Would we trade Ryan to Carlton for a F1 if we paid a significant % of 2026 salary? Blue’s F1 lands at a range from 8 to 14.

The good news is that he is in contract and there is no salary squeeze in 2026. Ball is in our court. Personally, I think he fits the Swans forward line (and SCG shape) better. No idea if they are interested in him. I am sure eaglevision can come up with a trade with Ryan to Swans along with some or both our R2 picks and their picks. King is looking like a genuine R1 Academy prospect plus the 2 other academy boys who look more like late first to mid second rounders

If the rumours are true about close to 2 million a season at West Coast for Harley, surely Geelong cant get close to that.

The only clubs who can afford to match our offer financially are also trash. If Harley leaves it's not for better money. It's probably not even for equal money. It'll be to play in a competent side with quality team mates and win a billion flags.

Why do people think Geelongs cap is tight? Who do people think they’re paying big money to? Smith and Holmes are likely their biggest contracts at some where between 800-1m.

Cameron and Danger have traditionally been there best paid players but are 32 and 35 respectively. The years of them being paid at the very top bracket are coming to an end.

Geelong could put a deal together for Harley, perhaps some of the money would be back ended.

People in here need to get their head around the idea that if Harley wants to play for Geelong, the cats will move heaven and earth to get that deal done.

I dont know why, but if I am wrong I am wrong.

If he does leave, lets see if Eagles get bent over again in a trade.

As will their sponsors and contributors. Completely agree, they'll be pitching him behind closed doors that they can ensure he winds up on equal or better total remuneration than if he stayed at WCE, with all the additional perks of playing in a good side, blockbusters etc.

The Geelong/Vic media will then get their cues to ramp up the "you've got to let the kid go" narrative, and say WCE have no choice but to let him go for the unders Geelong are able to offer. Same media waits a year or so after the deal is done and starts potting WCE for letting Harley go for unders, no priority pick because of your bad trading etc.

Ewes are all wrong. I think the money is fine and I think Harley will be happy to ride out a tough period at the Eagles. It doesn’t matter where he plays he will be well payed and sponsors will que up.

The sticking point will be his personal life and where that sits with Yaz and his family. That will decide where he plays. If she’s happy over here and so is the family travelling, if they enjoy visiting Perth then he will resign.

If they are all finding it to too difficult then he will move back east.
