So basically the training jumper, but without the pattern? Yeah, that will be a poor outcome. Like why black? We have never worn black ever (apart from that one game in 07).

What's wrong with trying a different colour scheme? Gold Coast implemented pink on their jumpers this year as something different and IMO it looked good

Only sticking to your traditional colours is such a unique thing to AFL, other sports have no issue with alternative jumpers/strips in different colours.

Yep, except with yellow collar and trim around the shoulders.

Looks like the 1995-1998 SOO jumper with the yellow swan replaced with a yellow eagle head.

Other sports don't change their club badges/logos every 5 minutes. Collingwood have had at least half a dozen logos I can remember but Eddie has an aneurysm every time not wearing black and white stripes is raised.

The only thing that is unique to the AFL is clubs fighting against having away uniforms. Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United - red. Chelsea, Man City, Everton- blue. Everyone knows these team colours, but it doesn't stop them having away uniforms that are distinctively different. Personally I don't care what colours WC wear playing away to Hawthorn or WB or whoever that have similar colours to blue and gold. so long as whoever comes here isn't wearing blue and gold.

Cardiff City are the bluebirds. They've worn blue and white for most of their existence. In 2012 the owner changed the main colour to red because he wanted to and the fans revolted. Three years later they were back in blue.

Nothing wrong with it, but there is also no need. Our colours, identity are blue and gold. Lucky for us, the full royal blue kit is such a strong, bold, vibrant colour on its own, it hardly clashes with any other jumper.
When it does clash, maybe only NM we go the yellow. Which is also such a contrast to most other colours.

We have no need for black, pink, navy etc. even removing the traditional argument, there is still no need.

It's for WA Day and what colours does WA use...?
Yes, but it's also the SoO jumper they are taking inspiration from. The jumper has a huge history of its own, as do West Coast. WC don't need to appropriate the history that comes with the state jumper.

It gives me the icks that we wore the state jumper in 07 and will be the same with this one

I like that AFL clubs generally stick to their traditional colours. Gold Coast can get away with it because, quite honestly, they don't have a real brand.

Or any meaningful supporter base

Sticking to traditional colours is why it's a dogs breakfast when it comes to clashes though. Clubs refuse to develop alternate strips and the people who end up affected most are the fans trying to pick out players from 2 similarly coloured playing kits.

You can have alternate colours and still retain your identity

Some clubs are worse at this than others though. It's mainly 3 of the Vic Big 4, and possibly North these days, who used to have the right mix but now demand they play in their 90s kits regardless who they play.

For the most part, clubs inverting the colours on their guernsey works to avoid clashes (like we do). In cases where it still doesn't then mix up the colour palette as a last resort.

The optimal solution is for a club to have a long-standing clash identity, be it in a club colour or in one fully-embraced clash colour, but I think too often clash jumpers open the door to design churn and retail sales metrics.

No one forces people to buy alternate strips, that's an individuals choice to do so.

Comparing it to other sports globally, I just really don't understand the obsession from some AFL fans that deviating beyond the colour scheme of your club is a loss of identity somehow. It's such small minded thinking

These are the same people that say "It's tradition!" When referring to their own teams playing Anzac Day or the season opener, or even the GF at the MCG.

I mean, it's a one-off guernsey for a game that celebrates a state-specific public holiday. We're not incorporating it as our identity moving forward.

I'm pretty ambivalent about it - wasn't really asking for it and don't care that we're doing it. Mainly, I'm annoyed we didn't do a throwback of The Ochre, what with its WA coastline and all.
