Review Rozee's Port adelaide respond with a loss

IMO no Port supporter can blame other supporters who have switched off to this absolute waste of a season that for some completely unknown reason was gifted to a coach by a house wife tv `star' who knows as much about football as a canary knew why it was being taken into a coal mine.

I absolutely f****** hate losing and particularly to the mob down the road, but I had the best sleep I've ever had after a showdown loss and I wouldn't have thought that was possible after a game we should have won even with the non contributors like Lord and McEntee, but to paraphrase Power Lil, it's another day closer to never having to see daddy donuts or hear any more of his `it's a tough game and someone has to lose' defeatist BS ever again!

Other teams execute this shot well regularly. I think it's just an extension of our overall poor conversion which is an extension of our overall mental fragility as a club.

We should as a starting point be practicing goalkicking way more than any other club as it's the area that we stand to gain the most out of but unfortunately Training Services pretty well runs the football department as far as I can tell.

Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed the increasing prominence of the head of Training Services? Not only does he sit right next to Hinkley but he now literally has the magnet board in his hands the entire time. This is what losing the plot looks like.
What on Earth is Training Services?

Well I'm in a ropeable mood. And one of the main reasons is I'm sick of Port supporters accepting this shit year after year. We expect the players to fight hard for a win & yet its hard to find a Port supporter who has any fight in them. The majority just accept this mediocrity.

Maybe the Facebook happy clappers are happy accepting it but lack of emotion doesn’t mean Port supporters accept them.

But, the club through its own poor decision making and lack of of leadership, development and list management is the reason we’re here. The lack of emotion is due to the club and the complete disappointment of what they have become. We’ve lost fight for the club because they have just constantly been a disappointment for a decade and repeated the same mistakes over and over.

If the club isn’t willing to make changes and make tough decisions within reasonable timeframes, why should we care? They don’t deserve it anymore until they prove to us they deserve our commitment and input. As the club is now and how it’s ran, they simply don’t deserve our emotional or financial investment.

It’s a sad state of affairs but only the club is responsible for this mess.

I'm just counting the days til this year is done so we can see if anything worthwhile changes.

There is no chance of a positive result this year so it's not even worth getting worked up about.

At least next year with some changes there's a chance.

If we had an above average set shot at goal we'd be a half dangerous team.

Don't get me wrong I dont even acknowledge Ken as coach anymore but those i50s stats are because of us not converting a set shot especially at crucial moments. There are some players in the team i would rather them have a snap from the boundary line , under pressure in play than a set shot directly in front passed 30m.

If there was a way of measuring controlling and losing momentum we would be at the losing end of that scale.

It's my opinion of why our best and worst is miles apart.

We lose so much momentum in games by doing some real amatuer stuff, converting set shots, and generally being dumb as f"".

I think the most frustrating thing about that loss is how familiar it was. But it shouldn't have been.

Ken told us all preseason how we need to have a different avenue to goal now with Charlie gone. He said we had a totally overhauled gameplan for quick ball movement, a different structure to play to our strengths. When we got smoked early, he told us that we had a couple of things to tweak and we're still getting used to the new game style.

Rozee was moved to half back a couple of games ago. Why not from the start if that was part of this brand new game style we've worked on all summer? Bergman in the middle for the first time - I'm not against it, but doesn't seem like something we prepared for all summer.

And then last night... back to contested ball, winning stoppages and getting it inside 50 quickly to try and hold it in and overwhelm the opposition, only to see behind after behind and then have the ball go back over our heads for easy goals to the opposition on the rebound. Exactly like the last however many years. New gamestyle worked on all summer abandoned.

It's just so boring at this point. That was an insanely close game yet I never felt excited.

Lord had a poor game but I’m happy to cut him some slack. Hinkley sees him as Dixon’s replacement. It’s the same Hinkley game plan but rather than kick it long to Dixon in a contest it’s kick it long to Lord.

I think he’ll become a better player under a better coach.

I'm tipping the real legends of this club never went at 33% disposal efficiency in a SANFL game, shows how far standards have slipped for supporters too when this bloke is regarded a legend.
You just making stats up now he went at 61% ain't great but everybody's patting Bergman on the back and he went at 52% and pulled out of a contest when the games on the line (am a fan of Bergman's just not that sort of shit). Sanfl side is a joke some weeks half the teams made up of players that play country footy and they do better than the spuds we been recruiting

I hate losing. Positives absolutely are Bergman and Visentini in the middle. Both were a bit raw in there, but should absolutely be played there for the rest of the season.

BZT is underrated, and as a tall lockdown he adds a lot to our side. Willie was missed. Luko can kick straight.

All I’m saying is that (and we have known this for the past few years), we need a full list to choose from to be competitive.

Comments on a couple of players:

Mead - not sure that he is up to AFL level. Seems like one of those players that is too good for SANFL but not good enough for AFL. I can’t remember a game where he has been our best player. He’s averaging 15 disposals a game in 2025 which is his 6th season on our list. Maybe he’s playing a role that I have missed? High half forward, which is a difficult position. But I keep feeling disappointed in his output.

Burgoyne - Seems to have gone backwards this year. Just doesn’t seem to be having the level of impact or possessions that maybe I was hoping for this year. He’s averaging 20 disposals a game in 2025. I think he’s AFL standard but think he needs to do more and be more damaging. We’ve seen it in the past but it’s not often enough for me currently.

I'm more pissed off about this one that I thought I'd be.
Ditto.

Totally ambivalent at the start, dragged me in with a couple of genuine fist-pump moments, then smacked me over the back of the head with a steel chair with what is in the end, just another infuriating Hinkleyball loss.

Joke’s on me for getting sucked back in.

Like most clubs. The sad thing is, if Rioli played we win. His skills and goal kicking ability would have been invaluable to us last night.

You didn't watch the game did you & where are you getting the bullshit stats?

I did watch the game and regardless of turnovers etc I still would of played Boak instead of Jed. Stats straight from stat sheet. You obviously haven't looked to back up your sour opinion.
I wouldnhave played Atkins or Johnson personally

What on Earth is Training Services?

It's the contemptuous nickname given by Grant Thomas to what we would know as the 'High Performance Team'.

GT thinks these people are of dubious value and take away from what the coaches are trying to implement. It'd be interesting if you just paid a basic wage to a run of the mill strength and conditioning guy and then gave full control over things like training (especially goal kicking practice) and rotations back to the coaching staff whether you'd get better or worse results. There wouldn't be any rock solid evidence to suggest these people actually add value overall, the way they embargo goal kicking practice is on its own reason enough to seriously ask the question.

Yep

Burgoyne I have some hope for, but it feels like he needs a constant kick up the ass to perform at his best.

While I never want to accept a loss that result was a lot closer than I anticipated given last week's form and some of the selections. I predicted a 60+ loss. I was wrong thankfully as the Cow supporters would have been even more unbearable if we had been hammered.

Rioli plays and we probably win but we also had our chances and fluffed them. Someone has to do something about Georgiades' kicking at goal. That miss in the first quarter from 30 metres out was diabolical, an AFL forward should not miss those. It wasn't all down to Mitch though, Finlayson missed what he should have kicked and I am still trying to fathom that fifty metre penalty awarded to Rankine against Zak Butters. Looked like an academy award effort on Rankine's part.

Again this week one of the Umpires pointed the wrong way when awarding a free. Ollie North took the ball, saw the Ump's signal and took off only to be called back. That is two games in a row at Adelaide Oval where that has happened. Umpiring these days is so technically sub standard.

That Rachele character needs to be chatted by the AFL. At least once last night he ran over to the fence and engaged with the crowd. It might have been good spirited but the thought crossed my mind that someone in the crowd might hang one on him if he gets too close.
