Am currently reading Young blood by Bob Brien....got to the bit about RK and the deceased dog found in close proximity. It turns out they never were able to ascertain who dumped the dog. A crime scene examiner learned from one of the farmers that it had been left there 3 weeks before RK was found ( not around 3 weeks mind you, specifically 3 weeks). They had assistance from an Entomologist from Adelaide museum. They needed weather observations from the local area to assist her with a more accurate date of how long RK had been left there and better establish date he died. Another local farmer was in the habit of taking weather obs so this helped nail down time lines. Even with this info. it was thought he had been left there for about 2 weeks.
It is interesting that the farmer happened to notice the dog on a specific date in an area that was off the airstrip in the bush. How did he come to be there to notice that ? I wonder if they questioned him properly? If someone had forensic knowledge, it would make sense to dump poor RK and the dog at the same time as this would confuse the timeline. BVE definitely had some knowledge of forensics ( painting just the inside of the boot then selling the car immediately after RK went missing, washing the bodies etc and that was early 80's...almost like he had a pathologist mate or something...) According to the facts in the book, it cant be ruled out that they weren't left there at the same time.
I hope they looked into the farmer properly that knew the dog had been there exactly 3 weeks. And they didn't even release details of what kind of dog it was.

I believe he was on mushys or something, did jail for attempted murder. It was around the time of the family killings, I wonder if it was somehow related ?

It's funny how someone periodically cleans up stuff online regarding the family. I recently became aware of someone's name on the periphery of the family and when I put their name in google followed by the family, some hacker site popped up that also seemed to have a discussion thread regarding the family. Also about 12 months ago, when putting the same info in google, some site came up that had published handwritten pages of the 2014 diary, which, ofcourse, is no longer there now...I wish I had screen saved pages.

I considered at one point whether the Family stuff had a revenge bit post Duncan drowning (and all the other gay bashings) but then realised that they didn't target only straight guys and appear to have started before Duncan's murder.

It was 1985, one trans and one man, and the hills location was Lenswood.

Interesting fact I hadn't read before. apparently Neil Muir used to live with another bloke at Unley. (Prior to the Callington st "doss house" which he hadn't been there long, prior to that he was living with some chick in Kilburn for a few months) His mate got done for housebreaking and when he got caught Neil had to move ( house breakers need a fence and if they were robbing locally it was probably high end goods). Neil did have his hand and fingers removed.
I now think RK was frozen based on the forensics in Young blood.The one interesting thing I got from Debi Marshalls frozen lies was the timeline of how close together between Terrance Stevenson and Allan Barnes, surely not a coincidence

Is there any potential to AB and NM knowing something about DS and that being part of motive?

Yes, I have read the whole thread before I ever posted. I personally believe David Szach was complicit in the murder but I don't believe he was guilty. He did pass a lie detector and has always maintained his innocence. Something motivated his silence. I don't recall him naming anyone else just stating plausible denial. This is my opinion and you are obviously free to make your own as well.

Is this the same Brett McFarlane who was charged again in the 90’s for armed robbery etc? And again in 2021 for assaulting an officer?
If so, his court transcripts from the 90’s show he’s been charged with attempted murder and r*pe among other things. But also indicates that he’s straight. Although he left home at 14 and would have been a street kid with a drug addiction, anything is possible. Could very well be why he ‘slashed’ at them upon finding out, if he’d been a victim of the family in his teens

The victims were both from interstate. BTW the 'Alberton house' no longer existed in 1985.
