Well a low crowd against the Nepo Babies in the graveyard slot on Sunday evening at dinner time. I know I could have done without it.

So meh, to the result where we had a moral victory with more scoring shots but maintain our draft order benefit.

But LMAO at the new term for them, the “Nepo Babies”, coached by the biggest sook going around. That’s my positive take away, somebody has finally called it for what it is. The Nepo babies, where even Johnno Brown’s son knows nothing about them except he wants a selfie with Mac Andrew (who was trounced by Owens).

Well done Nepo Babies, you won the match and an apt new nickname. Welcome to AFL. 👶🏻

Isn't it interesting that we will be absolutely torn to shreds in the media this week for pointing out the fact that Gold Coast get ridiculous access to this talent, at the cost of cellar dweller minnows like us because the big Vic clubs poached their talent. St Kilda are in absolute no mans land when it comes to talent access, and we will be ripped apart for it.

I say keep doing it.
Sick to death of just rolling over and taking it.
Let them know in no uncertain terms that we are 100% onto what they are doing.

What are they going to do? Give us a shit draw? 🙄

I was one last year who said it was great we won that game against the Blues (ok it was the Blues so maybe that gave it some extra spice for me.)
I thought it was more important to win that game for the good of the club and to end the season on a high.

BUT, and I absolutely hate myself for saying this, I think we need to do what we can - play the kids - from here on to get the best draft picks we can.

Even more, I hate it that the competition has done this to us that it’s something we feel we have to do. And that we have to risk the signatures of NAS, Pou and potentially TDK by going this route.

So, those of you I disagreed with totally last year about that last game, I think I’ve jumped ship. As ill as it makes me feel going against all my instincts to want the club to win every game you play. I can’t see any alternative right now.

Not sure which bit of the Nepo Baby remark was inaccurate. You look how many top 20 picks they have as opposed to us. I know we have butchered a few. But we haven’t had that many that we can afford to give away a top end pick along with Jack Bowes. Or give up (was it pick 2) for Lachie Weller.

There were plenty more.

Never forget that we paid off Dockland stadium for the AFL. Put 800,000 more fans through there than the next best, yet we could not make a profit from it. Then the AFL took ownership of it for $1, or some other peppercorn payment. Our thanks - nothing. No marque matches, no better stadium deal, nothing. Just being forced to live of hand outs whilst bigger clubs get better blockbuster draws, and expansion teams get handouts, unless you are a basket case like North. It’s been going this way for ever and now father son and academy picks make it even tougher and unequal. Yet we will be told that in order to make this equal we will get equalization payments, but we only exist because of handouts.

What an absolute con.

Well done Lyon and Bassett, finally telling some of it like it is.

More please. Much more.

The dead giveaway is that that nobody who has taken offense to the term has actually tried to dispute it. All they can do is deflect.

  • A sore loser’s deflection after a poor performance.

Still, the fact that so many supporters from traditional clubs nodded quietly when they heard the line says something. Whether he meant to or not, Ross gave voice to a lingering resentment.

Would you like a quick quote or tweet-style take that expresses support for what Lyon was trying to say—without sounding like a sore loser?
Where is the above from?
Also, Ross said this BEFORE the game didn’t he? Not because we lost.

I was sitting behind the goals on L2, cheersquad end. It was so scarce of people up there I actually seen a little mouse scurrying around without a care in the world. In and out of the aisle and seats.

Crowd was disappointing but we haven’t looked like competing in 15 years, we’re stuck in middle of the ladder purgatory with no end in sight, we’re playing the Gold Coast in the graveyard slot and we’ve just come off a loss to a rabble of a side. I’m actually surprised 13k showed up.
But ah well it is what it is. I’ll be there again front and centre in a few rounds to watch the Mutts belt us again for the 2nd time in 8 weeks.

Exactly. All they can say is “you are shit”. After a history that is remarkable in that we survived for so long through periods where there was no attempt to make things equal at all and were were introduced as an underdog, the Nepo Babies complain that we identify and point out inequality when we are being told everything is equal! The only thing that would be worse than drawing attention to this open secret would be saying nothing at all…

Next time our recruiters line up a player that then wants to come to us, I really hope they don't then baulk over the difference between a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Having Xeri as ruck today would have gone a long way to reducing the impact of their mimidfield.
Norf have Xerri and whole bunch of 1st round midfielders coming out of their piehole and it's done jack all to reducing the impact of other team's engine room

It’s a but unlike Dimma not wanting to talk about being the beneficiary of his “new toys” 🤣

can’t have your cake and eat it too, as he clearly knew what he was signing up for with this list and no doubt took on a nice lump of AFL ambassadorial money too
Come on this was totally manufactured and orchestrated by the AFL.
“Tell them you’re done and you need a little rest, and we’ll have a nice little sunny spot for you to land in in a couple of months.”

Even Blind Freddy could see the nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I certainly won’t be applauding Hardwick and the Nepo Babies when they inevitably win their first flag. The AFL will just ensure it happens.

Anyway I will congratulate them on already achieving something I didn’t think possible. They actually make GWS look like a real football team.

I don't mind the club taking on the role of speaking out against structural inequities in the competition and the challenges it brings. It's part of the reason our club is where it is; esp. the list and the lack of recent success, and why the path out seems so hard. The range of quite significant factors imposed on us, but outside the control of the club is quite dispiriting.

I'm also mindful that Hardwick's comments about worrying about our own club are reasonable. However, I'd argue it includes saying the things that the president and coach have shared are part of that. I don't accept the suggestion that the club should get back in its box and accept it.

More broadly, I was reflecting on how supporters from other teams felt about St Kilda when in 04/05 (Thomas prelim years) and 09/10 (Lyon Grand finals losses). I don't remember the club or those teams being particularly liked - we are an easy club to feel for when we are the lovable idiots with the history of heroic failures but when we were competing with the best I don't remember the competition being particularly fond of us.

I'd like us to be more unlikeable.

Watched the 1st half, the pub I was watching it in at Boreen Point Qld. then had a blackout haha.
Our effort was good, our foot disposal was awful & they out-classed us. Same ol really.
Keeler I was happy with.
Trav will be a very good player for us, very thin right now, but has a dip.
Pou was our most composed player.
Clark & Jones add abit of grunt.
Wilson didn't tackle a player when he should of in the 2nd qrt, reminded me of Hill.
Hill is good then Hill is bad, abit over him.
Marshall had a poor one as did Higgo.

I'd like us to be more unlikeable.
The way Bassat and RTB are going ( absolutely 100% behind them) I suspect your wish will come true.

Batten down the hatches for what we’re about to cop from the likes of Cornes, Caro,Lloyd, Barrett and the like….

Norths policy of drafting only midfielders is the reason they are where they are still.
