Thanks DQ. Excellent preview.

Gotta say I've enjoyed watching Richmond this year. A sentence I've never written before. Their young players run around, take the game on and enjoy themselves. I've tipped Tigers to win but who knows, maybe this is the week we make an eff

Just a flashback to a couple of forwards that turned out to be guns in the backline.
Ted Richards was playing forward at Essendon and it wasn"t until we moved him to the backline that he flourished.
"Reg" Grundy came to the s]Swans as a half forward and was going nowhere.... playing there for quite a while.
Moved down to the backline and became an all time Swans legend.
What am I on about......McLean fits the descriptions of Richards and Grundy.
He has been all over the place since he started and it is no wonder when he sits on the bench as ruck replacement.
Give him the CHB spot and pull Reg or Ted in to explain how they achieved their remarkable turnarounds. Responsibility will make or break him and now is the time to find out if it is in him.
He has a beautiful of marking hands and with his learned ruck craft which was not his go, he surely has learnt how to punch and spoil. He has the proven ability to kick straight on his goal attempts so kicking from half back seems his go.

Too slow and we don't need that

So you do not toss your hands in the air and throw him at CH in the VFl until the end of the year.
If the coach can move McCarten to fulll forward after his brother suffered head knocks day after day and the younger brother has already had several himself, common sense is not a highlight of the Swans selections. That is why Comben"s move to full back was a well considered decision by the roos.
Nothing ventured is nothing gained in the case of McLean.
You consider him too slow.....set him the task and find out.

Just don't think he has the speed or agility to succeed as a defender.

He'd get beaten on the lead.

He has played his best footy as our third tall that can park himself in a pack and then give our ruck a chop out. Once we can't or decided not to play that structure, he is a liability given his poor agility. I say agility as its not his mobility as he can get around a park ok.

We let him go so he would get a regular AFL game. He couldn't get into the 22 of a team that made 3 Grand finals in five tears. Disgusting and vile?
Buddy & Tippett. We didn't really have a medium forward at that time. We could have kept him but the reality was, he was yet another victim of the Buddy payday, along with Mummy

Only time i don't wear them is at Weddings and at most funerals
Now you know the question is out there…l what’s the criteria for the funerals where you wear them.?

Make changes and at least put a system together that players can follow. Get rid of anyone who won't run defensively. That includes the so called stars. Rotate the mids more. We are too predictable in there and our mids set ups stink. At least get some forwards into the team.

Move Blakey out of the backs. Play him wing or forward

Play Wil as a true Full Forward in the Modra style. One one one with the 25 vacant. Have two smalls ready on the 25 outside ready to pounce forward to get the spills if Wil drops the mark

Do something different

If Cox is trying to get us to play a more accountable type of footy, it ain't working. If our opponents want to attack easily they just go through Chads direct opponent, because he won't be anywhere near him. Same, to a lesser extent with Heeney. But it seems to be spreading. Instead of making us more defensive, Cox has accidentally made us more loose and uncommitted. Not his fault, maybe? Don't know. But if the message is not getting through that we need to play accountable footy, then that is his fault.

We have some players back. Wicks, his injury was not bad, a strained muscle and fixed. Mills, Harry played limited minutes in the reserves. Maybe sub. B ut one thing is for certain we can't just let this team from last week stay as it is and not drop players. By the way, Chad had 19 disposals at 23%. That's 3 disposals that were considered efficient. That means, they could have all gone to a marking contest. All THREE.

Totally agree with you both on Mclean , im not a Ladhams lover , but he offers more
Maclean should be trade bait
Ladhams gives you effort, should be amongst the first picked atm.

He's too slow , ive watched him from juniors
It’s good enough for this year here and now.
Great reply

Give buller a go, chuck blakey up fwd with heeney. Give adams a full game in the midfield, maybe someone like roberts too. Use this part of the season to trial players in different positions to see what we've got then settle for the back end of the season to launch into 2026. Don't run heeney into the ground as a pure mid this season, save him for next year. Mills to return via the backline for a few weeks, let him get match fitness & rhythm then unleash him into the mids.

Use this season as a platform to build for 2026. I don't mind us resting Grundy for a few weeks & let Ladhams have a block of games as sole ruck. Figure out what the hell we've got with him & if we need another back up ruck for 2026 or can Eshay do that job. I'm going to call 2025 as a tactical down year to launch us for 2026 & beyond.

Mclean is a ruck who overachieved as a fwd, imo his current output & performance is his standard.
Give McLean the growth spurt Ladhams got when Ladhams was an inside mid and you'd have two better players
