My friend asked me what the ninth letter of the alphabet was.

It was a complete guess, but I was right.

Pre-emptive post (that won't stop me from complaining about it AGAIN tonight):

Will any umpire have the GUTS to hold these disgusting scraggers and cheaters to account???

First start for new stable. Track work has been impressive and reports from Trainer, Chris Fagan are positive. Expect bold front running display. Wet track should pose no problems. Looking for a strong showing.

Oh dear, game day again.....ah yes, I can look forward to the urge to pace the floor, having palpitations at times, sweats at times also, violence towards my tv at some time during the game, usually towards the umpires or commentators.

Such is this game that we all love so much, we put ourselves through all sorts of torments just to cheer for our boys week in, week out. So here we are again ready for any and all of the excitements and disappointments that go with it..

...and all other days I'm a sweet natured dear old lady who wouldn't hurt a fly;)

..but today it's just get out there Lions and do the damn job for 4 quarters and no pussy footing around!

Looks like it will be quite wet eh? A few factors that normally decide these types of games:

1 - free kicks close to goal. Dodgy ones we can't do anything about. But a big part of smart wet weather football is not over-committing in defence. Don't chop the arms because they will probably drop the mark anyway. Don't go to tackle full-pelt and risk a high free as they will probably fumble anyway. Have to be calm back there
2 - Converting. Goes without saying.
3 - Don't try for the perfect goal - usually one fewer possession is better. As tempting as it might be to go for one more pass in the goal square, take the shot from 35m on a slight angle instead if there is any risk
4 - time in forward 50 - won't be many goals from half back / kick-ins
5 - be good when it's dry - there could be patches with no rain at all. If you are on top you can kick half your score in 20 minutes. but so can the opposition

We had some practise in a bit of wet last week. The crows had a proper wet game against the pies.

We were terrible in the last really wet game i can remember against the cats last year, any i have missed? We did seem to over correct against the cats earlier this year.

Given the conditions it will be hard to draw any firm conclusions about where we are at, so more about a win would be incredibly good for our chances of top 4, a loss and next week becomes absolute must-win.

Cats game this year was very wet. Gold Coast game reasonably wet too?

Yeah that's right GC was quite wet. We adjusted well there

Cats game from my memory was more greasy - we played like it was soaking wet but the cats were killing us with ball use, we adjusted with some help from Bruce in the third?

Still at least 3 of our games rain-affected is decent preparation if you add in essendon

Yeah 3 gabba games at least rain affected. Probably contributing to lower scoring at home tbh.

Not the warmest day here in Melbourne. Finding as much to do as possible inside today.

Yeah, it's gonna be very very cold tonight.

You'd want to be going full Tom Hawkins mode with the deep heat / liniment.

The game we played against Essendon does not give me confidence that we are a side that can handle wet conditions.
Last week wasn't wet, but we fumbled and second, third grabbed our way to a very unimpressive win.
I would take another unimpressive win, however I fear Adelaide are more mature and ruthless team that will be able to exploit if we bring our fumbling ways.
