Not sure if it is accurate but Kane Cornes says that the Crows managed 9 high frees from ducking and lifting the arm with Peatling getting 6 high frees.

I'm glad he's harping on about it.
AFL HQ will take note like they did for Hawks.

Peatling only had 5 FF but they probably were all highs. It was a clear strategy to play for free kicks from the crows. Do they do it every week or was it a specific strategy brought out against us because of our tackling technique (or conspiracy hat thinking, umpire treatment)?

The same thing happened to Ashcroft a few times and he got nada. Even when Bailey had his head ripped off they still were cagey about giving it

Cornes pointed out that Adelaide drew 9 high contact free kicks 5 to Peatling plus a couple the umps weren't sucked in.I await the day players get rubbed out for this crap..

Players will always be ahead of the curve with finding loopholes with rules. It takes a long time for the rules and umpires to implement change.

We’ve got some that take advantage of some rules, sure. Other teams have more obvious examples. If a player like Peatling looks at his game and is proud to get his kicks like that and is lauded for it internally, that doesn’t sit well with me.

The commentary has to change around it being clever, smart or “earning” themselves a free.

Matthew Nicks was on AFL 360 last week and he mentioned he had instructed his players not to be faking/diving/feigning for free kicks. He does not want his players to be a team who is trying to milk free kicks.
I can only say what his words were last week on AFL 360.
I must admit Peatling seemed to be the player who stood out to me who was the one who was mostly falling a little and raising his arm to draw the head highs.

I would love the AFL to make some slight changes to rules to take some decisions away from umpires to make the job just little easier for them.

1) only pay a ruck free kick if it is blatantly obvious. Accidental hand over shoulder or anything play on, as long as one of the ruckman has not been impeded to be able to compete in the contest then play on.

2) to eliminate umpires having to make judgement calls on whether ball has travelled 15 metres or not just pay every kick a mark no matter how far it has travelled.

3) When someone takes a mark, or a free kick is paid then whoever takes the mark stands the mark exactly where the mark or free kick is paid. None of this running back 5 metres from the mark to be out of the area to be able to be moving around. Get sick of a player on the mark who runs back to get out of the area with no penalty then 5 minutes later someone else does the same thing but gets paid a 50metre penalty. Lets make it black and white for the umpires so they dont have to think about whether a 50 should be paid. Everyone only has the option of standing where the mark or free is and thats it.
I have actually heard umpire say stand 2 or 3 times to players and no 50 metre penalty paid.

Just trying for umpires to think less about decisions needed to be made thats all. Try and make things black and white where we can. Only an opinion.

Would Matthew Nicks lie on national tv to get an advantage hmmmm.....surely not lol. Players are taught to win at all costs and rules are bent to the max in the AFL world.

Agree. Rules are bent by the players, coach's, afl administration, afl media & even afl supporters...nobody is exempt from bending the rules.

Oh Come On Jim Carrey GIF

I’d like to see him getting more than a last quarter entry to a game, when most of his team mates were busy pooing their pants.

Remember, they used to use that AFL quality line when referring to Lester and we all know that that was a massive miscalculation.

Dev might not play his best football with us, but he will get another chance and will prove the doubters wrong. Don’t forget Jack “The Steak Knives” Crisp.

Lester was delisted and given a 2nd chance as a defender

“They” = Brisbane lions?

Lester actually looked decent enough early days, but became too vanilla for a period. His skills and decision making were always reasonable tho

Lots of plays broke down through dev, and his running patterns were matho like imo

You picked this up in less than 15 mins play time during a quarter in which the whole team had a collective brain fade?

Easy to say that sitting on the couch. The conditions were the worst I've seen as a spectator. Imagine what that would have been like for the players. Both sides dropped what you consider easy marks but on Friday night, they were not easy.
Was at the game. Was cold but not the problem Was windy though and it rained heavily prior to the game, dried out by the 2nd qtr, rained again I think in the 3rd qtr. Was a tough game in hostile territory. The Ducks are like us in that they can kick goals quickly and that was always my concern in a low scoring game. Had a great position up high on the 50 for Cal's kick that was denied a goal. I thought it was a goal but my brother a Duck supporter thought a point. Go figure.

I was there also. Conditions were sh*t. Worst I have experienced as a spectator or player.

That said, we were the better team on the day but came away with the loss....it happens.

I was sitting in the open air Ponsford stand for the 2002 GF. Drizzling rain all day 9-10 degrees max. It wasn't that bad. That said if I didn't have undercover seating I wouldn't have gone 😂

Had some bad days down at Geelong around 2005/6. Shivering under the scoreboard. Getting pumped as well. I was told by a local if you can't see the tower on the mountain due to the clouds you are in for a bad day, I couldn't even see the mountain.

Enjoyed Nicks response - we have lost the rub of the green several times recently, now it was our turn.

Dev was a bit stiff. He had zero chance of nailing that around the corner but the Adelaide player ran off the mark before play on was called and he kicked it straight into him. Should've been a 50 and Dev could've been a hero.

I think it was Berry who was just as close to the OOB as Dev and he should've run in to grab the ball because the last player you'd want taking that kick is Dev. Dev's other chance to goal was a very poor execution of snap. He looked a bit crestfallen , he could've won the game for us.
Berry did grab the ball but was told to give it to Dev.

Adelaide player moved on the mark when Dev took his first step. Dev was not in play yet so it could not be play on.

Who knows but just repeating what he said. It was based around a clip showing Rachele going down very easy and thats when he said we dont want to be a team who flops for frees.
I wonder if he pulls peatling aside and says cut that crap out, yeah probably not.

Yep correct. My brain has reanalysed its foggy memory and I clearly recall Bez handing the ball to Dev which was a -20 yards kick around the corner or otherwise.

Really surprised though to see the man on the mark right there in the ball's trajectory before Dev took his pot shot. All up add it to the other unfolding events that meant it just wasn't our night.
