We paid more for Cerra and Saad by a long way than what Adelaide paid for Rankine and Dawson, edit maybe not a long way but a bit.

Dawson is one of the best players in the league, my point was they got two stars for their picks

Crows gave 5, a 3rd and a 4th
GC gave Rankine and 3rd

Adelaide gave pick 17
Syd gave Dawson

We gave 8 for Saad and got 48 back
We gave 6 and 46 for Cerra
Sydney very lucky they got pick 17. Crows wanted to walk Dawson to the psd where the held pick 1

No - it was the opposite, i nver suggested bigger and better things, I said despite his lack of tank he still can get a weekly run in the AFL. Moir levaes him for dead in the AFL quality stakes and people are writing him off. Moir is a rare talent ... if he doesn't make it, then that is a failing of the club. Lesser players with faults have made a 'career'. Moir gets a bad wrap on her because he is extremely talented ... how about we celebrate his massive assets instead of focussing on the minor fauklts that allowed us to be in a position to actually draft him. The kid has star written all over him. Back him in!
Sayın he's not ready isn't the same as writing him off. The distinction is self evident.

Yes and no. I think our biggest issue forward (apart from delivery into F50) is the way our forwards play. Utter ClusterF#%. A better forward coach should be able teach then to find space as well as better ball movement into F50.

If Durdin and Motlop can remain consistent, along with Fog & White, we are OK. We have a bit of depth there.
But, Nick Haynes will only have another year at most, McGovern is unreliable, so we need that running half back that can intercept before they go. I think it's more urgent TBH.
Biggest issue in our forward line is Jordan Russell.

I'm not saying it's a definite but a realistic option for him with the state of his back. There is a chance, and he's considering all his options at this stage.

“A long way” is a bit hyperbolic. Combined it’s more, but individually, they paid more for Rankine than either of our trades. Dawson was a bargain, but he also wasn’t going anywhere other than SA, so they had the upper hand
I edited my post as it’s more but not as much as first stated.

Those two players are quality and what you want when you part ways with quality picks.

I'm not going to say who, but it is somebody very close to his family.
Assume he’s struggling really bad, he’s barely missed any games the last two years so I always wonder how bad someone’s back can be if they can consistently play midfield in the AFL.

Add to this he’s contracted next year, he could have from now until November off to recover, even a chunk of next year and still get paid.

I would have thought if the back is that bad, he would have had time off to fix it or changed his role at AFL level to mitigate risk.

Fair enough, from what I'm told, his back IS that bad. Either way, I'm just saying it's an option for him, not saying that it's one he wants to take.

He's obviously busting his gut to keep playing.

Have we broken Sammy Walsh now to the point where he just cant be relied on, maybe he would flourish in a better environment and wonder if he is thinking the same.

Sam Walsh has an injury.

“He’s considering retirement”

“ He’s such a disappointment”

“ He wants out”

“ We should trade him”

Sheesh!

What a load of bollocks.

First off, no need to for that tone. I'm not loathing Carlton, just lamenting what appears a major contributing factor to our current list issues. I'm also talking about good, long-term quality role players.

So then, answer the question: who was the last player drafted by Carlton who played 100 games for the club without winning an All Australian award? not one of the players you list meets that criteria or will hit it this year. Even if you include the players traded from other clubs, only Newman has played 100 games and not won AA.

Jack Silvagni has, but he is Carlton royalty and his dad was the list manager. TDK could potentially get there this season if he plays every game.

Then the only one is Zac Fisher in 2016 (I misread his stats before my last post but he got to 107) who is no longer at the club.

Then it is back to Levi Casboult in 2010 (and Ed Curnow the same year, although he was on Adelaide's list, I think he counts).

ONE player in 15 years who wasn't a F/S was drafted by the club and played 100 games as a role player. If you must include players we traded for early in their career you can add Lachie Plowman, and if you really, really stretch Nick Newman (but he was 25 and had 3 years at the Swans = pretty well formed by that point)

As a comparison, Geelong (the gold standard for most things) currently have 9 players on their list who were drafted by the club, have played 100+ games and never made an AA team. That's a lot of stability across the field to build around that we don't have. Just a bunch of guys who have gone out and done their job week in, week out for a long time.
A bunch of ridiculous criteria based on nothing.

Who gives a stuff if they've played 100 games for us and not won an AA?

Half of them are mid 20s or early 20s who will no doubt about it end up reaching that mark.

Utter nonsense.

It would be worth consideration. Wiser heads closer to them both may see merit.

You don’t trade skipper Cripps without his blessing, assuming he may embrace a return to his home state at some stage. Grew up an Eagles supporter, so may have a soft spot there. Would be huge in a rebuild for three years or so. Don’t think it would happen if we are deemed to be “in the window” though. Cripps deserves success if it is coming in his time. It is very subjective how Crippa will “age” from here. Could return to the peak of his powers if shakes off some niggles, or those niggles may become more frequent.

I have not been as big on Reid as many, but he has undoubted talent and could be a generational player. I would like to see more consistency, and seemingly better preparation, but that may be there in a more competitive environment.

Negotiation of potential steak knives would be interesting. I would happily send Gov to play a season with big brother, if he makes it through the concussion assessment, if there was a view the youngster’s longevity trumps Crippa’s value.
No chance. West Coast would never do that deal.

Harry on the other hand as the centre piece of a deal might be possible.

Agree with many other posters, our list overall lacks run and carry players. The injuries have just exposed it more acutely.
When Walsh is the coaches awards we generally win.

Stripping away depth mid field players has also amplified it further. Hence my lack of enthusiasm for names like fritsch. He won't address our biggest weakness.

Probably belongs in list management, but list team can't control Injuries.

That said.

It probably doesn’t feel like it, but this year is probably the healthiest the list has been in years.

Can’t control injuries?

Name me a team that can.

BTW how many do we (touch wood an awful lot) have on our injury list?

The saints tdk thing is getting a lot of attention. Less talked about is how the saints tackled last seasons draft.

The public were screaming for a midfielder. Yet they didnt reach, they went with best available defensive rebounding talent.

I think their recruiting team selected well.

I raise this point, only to highlight I hope we bring in a rebounding power runner with compo pick.

I feel like if TDK hasn't made a call yet the club need to make the call for him.

I rate TDK. But have no interest in overpaying for a Ruckman. It will end in tears.
Agreed but I reckon the club already knows he’s gone and that’s why we’re pushing ahead with JSOS talks and have locked in Hewett for an extension. Also apparently we’re in the Bergman race which indicates we think we’ll have a bit of spare space in the cap.

That’s what they were saying about Daniher he can’t stay on the park allways injured could have been a champion but his a bust then he moved to QLD and didn’t miss a game
They said the same about Crippa 3 yrs ago his finished etc etc
I think Walshy is operating at 40 % he would flourish in a Better system with Better coaching injury load management tailored to build his body and mi d back up to optimum etc
Let’s remember he was touted as a generational talent and he showed it early but then ? Injury cartonised overplayed nit managed correctly I don’t know
This is just my opinion of what I have observed by his body language and the constant barrage of crap everyone keeps banging on about his body .
I think it’s 50/50 mental and body
Thats why I think he’d explode elsewhere to our detriment
