Yes, we were lucky Sydney didn't kick straight, and we definitely had some poor periods during the game. But we've been in a similar position after those Geelong, Collingwood and Freo losses, it's about time we got some luck!

Also, they came out ready for a fight. Season on the line. Papley was giving it to us; they kicked five in a row and our best players were down. On top of that, we travelled after a five-day break, and people do seem to forget they made a GF last year. All that has a classic doggie loss written all over it.

I'm extremely proud of the boys for getting that hard-fought win, yes, it was a bit ugly, but I think that was a massive game for us to win.

That was Naughton's best game in recent memory

Naughton had good night. He broke his propensity of running himself under the ball. Perhaps the poor footing helped. I suggest that from now on he should drop to one knee before leading up to a kick.

Reckon Naugthy should fall over more regularly. Doesn’t give him time to run under the ball while it’s in flight🤣 Fall over, get up as quick as you can then contest as well as you can!

Poor, negative title for a thread. It is a good win up there any day of the week.
Sydney’s season was on the line... It felt like a final. I think some have underestimated that. And now that their stars are back, they’re a formidable side. If they play like that, they probably beat 90% of teams on their home deck.

So much more meaningful than shitting on the likes of St Kilda and Essendon. Sydney brought lots of heat tonight and I thought they were a fierce, worthy opponent.

Hynes - wow I love him already. Has 'it'.

Sanders superb, Freijah amazing.

Harmes always seems to need a few games to get back his touch after an injury - wish we'd give him a few games in the BFL before bringing him in.

We needed to get pushed and win a tough one - Sydney did us a real favour tonight.

Don’t want to be negative after a win, but man, these umpires. That 50 against Darc is just not acceptable. I don’t care if it’s one mistake, that is so far from acceptable it isn’t funny.

Could’ve cost us a win tonight.

People make mistakes and pretty dumb ones at times, it happens. Players do it all the time. Why people continually obsess over umpires, I don't understand when it's such a hard game to umpire as is. The rules are no where near simple enough to properly get right.

The way I see it, you win some you lose some, it's so much less stressful this way. Do you really think we weren't lucky with the umpiring in the 2016 grand final?

Umpires make bad decisions with stuff like holding the ball, insufficient intent etc. There’s absolutely zero excuse for a decision like that 50 to be made at any level.

Players make mistakes, that would’ve been the equivalent of Dale kicking out and kicking it through the oppo goal. Totally unacceptable.

Umps are such an easy target for the great unwashed.

They of course don't bother to pay attention to the administration, and the way they butcher the rules of the game to an inch of its life where what used to be a simple black and white decision suddenly becomes an interpretation. All while refusing to make umpiring full time, or even develop next gen umps properly.

Nup, they'll just crack open another been and blame the individuals for their mistakes.

I think we played a different Swans tonight, closer to Grand Finalist than the injury hit swans they have been for most of the season. Their year was on the line tonight, if they had won they were a chance for finals, they threw everything at us, don’t underestimate that.

I felt we found a different way to win, which good teams do.

The highlights was the return of Naughton into some form, Bramble shutting up the naysayers, Sanders, Frij and Hynes really contributing to the win, while our stars were being well held.

As one commentator said, it was an even team performance. That’s the sign of a good team.

regarding the umpires, I do think it’s tricky up there.

Sydney flail and duck a lot in a very “professional” way and the thing is, their fans don’t know the rules so they get up in arms about stuff that’s like, normal, in most afl games. I reckon that affects the umps a bit up there. Almost like they have decision making fatigue

Was at the ground. Libby needs a week off. Got tired in the 4 th . Harmes played a good game. Cooper pressure is good, tackled hard.looked like bramble is playing on a different surface to others. Solid game . Freijah is smooth , didn’t seem like running hard but got a long stride. BOG.So happy for Aaron.was a threat all night. Timed his leap .

The best thing about the win for me, is that it was a team effort and that’s what the best teams do.

  • Dale tagged out of the game after HT, Bramble stood up big time
  • Richards & Bont very much held (physically as well, ffs), Freijah took over & Sanders stood up
  • Darcy less influence after the 1st half, but needed to spend time in the ruck for English being treated, whilst Naughton became the main man up forward

A few players had quiet games too, but there were a lot of tired players off a 5-day break & a tricky surface to deal with. Lucky we ended up with no injuries.

We have to build more coverage into our defence.

In the third quarter that kick from Coffield to Davo that he didn't mark, fair enough too under a fair bit of heat, you knew as soon as that hit the ground it was going to be a goal.

We just see super vulnerable on the fast break like that.

It was just a poor decision by Coffield (he made a few unfortunately). You play on and put speed on the game then kick to a one on one on the wing, big chance it’s pinging back the other way. Most sides would struggle to defend that sort of turnover.

Would have agreed strongly with this at halftime. McNeil was genuinely impressive after though. He’s also a far superior forward, though I think Garcia has a higher ceiling.
Other than fumble and get subbed off what exactly did he do that was impressive

How about just not taking a poor kicking option on in the first place
