Agree, we sent all our children to not for profit centres. I’d even go one further and argue that early learning should be treated like schooling and provided for by the government. Such a crucial part of children’s socialisation and learning. Anyway, a little off topic…Whilst true that if the childcare centre is on Bulldog property they can do what they want, this move would be a huge cash grab and completely against the ‘community’ and values the club allegedly represents.
For-profit childcare centres are of considerably lower quality than non-profits. To maximise profits everything else is sacrificed. Staff will be cut to the absolute minimum required to be legally acceptable in terms of adult to child ratios. This, and poor pay, results in lower quality educators/staff.
Food and resources will be the cheapest, shittest stuff available. It’s likely there won’t be enough of either.
My wife is a kinder teacher in a non-profit and gets 12.5 hours a week out of the classroom to do planning, reports, learning stories, deal with parent/child issues and concerns. She still works late every day. A for-profit often gives their teachers as little as 2.5 hours a week to do the same number of tasks. It’s impossible. You can imagine how little energy Educators have to deal with children’s everyday challenges when they are working in these kinds of conditions. These aren’t opinions, they’re the reality of making childcare a profit based business.
I love the club but I’m really disappointed in this move and anyone who cares about others should be too. Childcare should not be a tool to extract profit at a cost to the community.
