Just wait until we get Max and Pou back.
We've been waiting over a year now for Max... not sure how long we can keep going!

Forward line was horrible today. We really need to try something different, Keeler as the stay at home FF is not working. Heath, Dodson, even Boyd rucking with Marshall full forward. We're giving Owens absolutely no hope.

Geez SOS and Gubby have some contracts to get sorted.

Nas is obvious, but Windhager and Hall just HAVE to be retained. And get Tauru's manager on the phone and get him locked in long term.

I really hope we look at getting an experienced key forward onto the coaching panel in 2026, the guys playing tall in front of the ball are all at sea, and really need to learn the craft from someone who's done it before, not a 5 foot 2 assistant

Wow, Garcia had the second lowest TOG of anyone who wasn’t subbed on or off (61%), yet had a game-high 8 clearances. To go with his game-high 10 last week (from 83% TOG).

He looks like he could be our Libba.

Pou, Hugo, Box, Windy and maybe Nas and Trav could be a very good midfield going forward.

I agree about Garcia. It's a nice comparison to draw in Libba.
But I don't see the rest.
Pou ?
Box?
Windy?
Not so far.
There is no elite midfield there
Nas ? Nope . Think Robbie Flower for Melbourne in the '70s.
Super star? yep. AA Yep? Brownlow yep? Midfielder? no.

Windy? Nope, he's an upgrade on Blake Acres for sure- and that's not trivial. But I do you see him as a star-midfielder?
The Box? Mnnn..don't know where to put him yet.

Pou?
I am still clueless.

Did just about everything right except for kicking inside 50 and kicking for goal. Can't fault the effort, skill was horrendous.

Very good from Hall, Tauru, Garcia, Hammer, Hastie (after the 1st quarter) and obviously Nas.

Time to move past Hill and Butler. Clark approaching that territory as well.

For the sake of selection integrity we need to drop Keeler after 4 disposals over 2 weeks. Give Heath a crack - we literally have nothing to lose.

Pending Sandy form, I'd like to see something like this for next week:

Out: Webster, Hill, Butler, Keeler
In: O'Connell, Travaglia, Boxshall, Heath
Clark sub

Gee, what a wrap Sam Mitchell gave Nas in the presser.

Basically along the lines of “I knew he was good, but didn’t realise he was that good”.

Said they just couldn’t stop him, even though they scouted him heavily in the lead-up, and tried to tag him with 3 or 4 different blokes throughout the game.

No matter where he played, they just couldn’t stop him.

And in the last quarter, Nas attended 6 centre bounces, and for the quarter he had:

15 disposals
12 kicks
6 score involvements
5 contested possessions
4 inside 50’s
3 rebound 50’s
3 clearances
2 centre clearances
2 tackles
2 behinds
386m-gained
52 fantasy points.

Mitchell joked that even when Nas was on the bench he was still worried about him!

Didn’t watch the full game as was out with on a date night with tiger supporting gf. You know what, they got pumped by 80 points and she said I’m so proud of the boys. Not because they played well, but because they played for the jumper. Our young team are doing just that. We need to stop putting the failures of the past on the players of the future. Moments peoples. Challenge, fail, challenge, fail again, CHALLENGE SUCCEED. This team is not responsible for the past and the desperation we feel is not their burden to carry. We have spirit and passion. We have desire and hunt. By god we have a future and it is coming sooner rather than later. I’m so tired of yesterday’s/yesteryears failures and shortcomings being the yardstick of todays players. Pack it up if you think we’re doomed. Because anyone with one glass eye and cataracts should be able to see the green shoots and progress. There’s no wrong way to feel your passion, in fact the more we hurt obviously the more we love. It hurts to lose, it sucks. Only 1 team wins the premiership. Not the top 4 or top 8 or 12.. 1 team. Our team has shown resilience in front of 3 too 4 sides. I’m gonna relish the nearby success knowing I believed in it rather than than kicking and screaming each week. Sing the praises. We’re not bad we’re just not good YET.
The saints are marching in and I for one want to march behind them.

Another disappointing performance. Pretty sick of honourable losses, I understand we want a draft pick but man I cant watch us play and be happy with a loss.

The kicking inside 50 was like watching the auskick kids have a go at it. We are such a poorly skilled team outside of a handful at best.

Max Hall is genuinely becoming a gun. We seem to be better at drafting rookies/ mid season players than anything else.

So much needs to change in our side. For gods sake please move Owens into the midfield, he is absolutely rotting in our abomination of a forward line. Keeler sucks, I’m sorry but he is not the answer, nor will he be. Heath is big and competitive enough to at least be given a couple games.. he might shock everyone and perform.

Hill/ Webster/ Butler thanks for your contributions to our football club but no more AFL games for 2025 please.

Play Boxshall, Travaglia, Heath & Collard next week. Hill, Webster, Butler, Keeler out. Clark has his moments but he’s just so mediocre, he’s not moving the needle so I’d rather see Box in (Clark can be sub). Wilson has been horrendous all season, but I don’t even know who could take his spot.

Also can we please stop handballing to NAS when he’s just stagnant around the 50m arc!

Don’t you see the problem here?
No more honourable loses?
But…

You want Webster, Hill and Butler out?
These guys make us competitive.
I’m not saying good or bad,. But just making a comment on win/loss percentages.
We go back the well, or we don’t.
Honourable losses are not because of these guys.

Kingy said it in the post game, Max King plays and we win. It’s not that far away.
Exactly .... WE AREN'T THAT FAR OFF

Forget about Hastie's 1st half blunders .... his 2nd half is where the future lies .... one play where he burst from a contest thru 3 Hawk players and hit up a target was like ... flipping YES

Tauru .... Hall .... Windy .... Garcia .... all good

Windy's delivery inside 50 is woeful. Yes he's doing some good things but his kicking is absolutely shithouse.

One of the worst displays of kicking from a team you'll see.

Don't worry about Max King... we should have won that game with the players we had last night.

Henry needs a rocket.

Sincs stepped up late, but we need more from him through the game.

I'm over Butler. I'd be happy to never see him play in the 1's again.

It looks like Garcia is going to be an important part of our midfield.

Hall fantastic.

Nas unreal.

Thought Hammer looked solid.

There's a lot to like, but we have to fix our skills. It's beyond a joke. Needs to be a huge focus. That, and lowering your eyes ffs.

Our forward structure looks shite too.

Really hope they don't drop Hastie next week. Kudos for turning it around.

I'm actually hopeful. Think we're building a decent team. That kicking tho......

It's very exciting watching how improved our younger mids and defenders are playing recently.
Our fwd entry is not good. Never was great.
i50s means nothing when your turning it over like that.
Tarou fwd, not for me. Let him settle down back. It's too early.
Bombing inside 50 under pressure or turning it over by directly kicking it to them can't be sustained. It doesn't matter who we bring in, it won't help much. They need to clean that up or we'll never beat the big boy teams.

In regards to Sharman, he would do well to model his style of play on someone like Gunston. They are pretty similar-type players.

Sharman needs to significantly work on his leading and patterns. It's not like he is getting space on his opponent and Saints players are missing him on the lead inside 50. He is not getting enough separation on his opponent.

There are signs of life...some good passages of play, and the younger crew improving, but there is a loooong way to go.
The general skill level across the team, and the shockingly poor inaccuracy Infront of goal are borderline intolerable. Who the f*CK is in charge of our forward line anyway? Because whatever the hell that was meant to be was a shit show. You don't practice for that sort of thing, you instead try to eradicate it.
In the end I think the scoreboard flattered us.
Hawthorn though can Hok off, they're not where they think they are. Ginnivin and Watson are absolute flogs, how someone hasn't caved their heads in is a mystery defying logic.

I do remember Max shanking some vital shots at goal in the past. The forward line last night was a disorganised shambles who didn't present hard enough when the ball was coming in, and the kicking was rubbish. Bad kicking is bad football..we do have coaches don't we?

Some of our turnovers/skill errors defy belief. It is just absolutely comical. We make things so incredibly difficult for ourselves.

NAS deserves 3 million. What a player. I normally watch from standing room but watching him kick from the third level was something else.

Hastie was terrible early but really bounced back strongly. I was like everyone here irritated by his use by foot in the first quarter but the bronx cheers he got when he hit a pass left a sour taste. Kid's played 9 games we can back him in a bit longer than that

I feel like ive seen a version of that game like four times a year for a decade now... theres lots of positives but those basic skill errors... realistically we should have been in that game up to our eyeballs but instead it felt like hawthorn were never threatened because we just kept capitulating with the basics.
Agree with your take on Hastie. How Hill gets a pass from the commentators for the absolute rubbish he serves up weekly is a joke, the one in the last that barely hit boot.We are building. Nasty must play on ball now too creative back there .

The forward line is painful to watch at the moment. Something needs done in these last remaining games to change it up because it's difficult to watch.

I know Keeler is still developing but he just doesn't compete or work hard enough to keep justifying his spot. And given we chose to ruck Owens over him, there is no point having him in the team. Moose may have less talent but his effort has never been questioned and I'd back him in to at least put up a contest.

Of the other forwards - Higgins is still out of form. Butler looks past it. Wood and Sharman have the yips which is costing us badly. Henry a non-event. Owens competes but didnt impact much. Although, I loved his bump on Battle late. That's the physicality we need more of.

Hall is the only one who performed and he was outstanding. What a find he has been. Getting him up around stoppages the past two weeks has been an excellent coaching move and something I hope we continue to do.
