After unfortunately missing out on representing SA at the Champs due to recovering from a broken arm, Phillipou had been overlooked a little by draft watchers. In this game he reminded us of his quality. He's a superior athlete, a power runner on the outside with the physicality to mix it in contested situations and agility and burst of pace to get from inside to outside the contest. He's capable of pushing forward, taking a strong grab and impacting the scoreboard. In this game some of his decision making with the ball was poor at times, and his kicking was a little untidy in near perfect conditions with very little wind.

With Cumming seemingly rising up draft boards (at least if chat on other club's BF fora is anything to go by), and Wanganeen-Milera probably not destined to be a Crow, I'm increasingly taken with the idea of Adelaide taking the younger Phillipou with their first pick. Do you think he'll last to pick 15 or so in the open pool?

Its possible, but outside of the top 8 or so open pool prospects I think its pretty even into the second round.

Adding to the above. There's talk that Jevan will play seniors for WWT in the next month, and given he missed Champs his play against SANFL opposition will be an important factor in determining his draft stock.
Still some questions to be answered re his contested game and physicality I think to be a high end pick so a move up to senior footy would certainly enhance his draft rankings if he measures up in that regard.

Wasn’t there a poster on here earlier on the year saying that our main draft target this year was Phillipou the younger?

Can’t remember who the poster was or their track record but I distinctly remember him saying that’s who the crows were after.

I have no recollection of that sorry?

My comment was based on what I've seen with my own eyes watching him play the last 2 years.

I spoke to an ex recruiter that is close to the Phillipou family and apparently the crows are all in on Jevan Phillipou this year. I notice his stats have been down on last season in the Eagles under 18's. Wonder if it's similar to the Tylor Welsh situation last season.

Cumming of the Sam variety with 20 touches and 3 goals in a loss for North seniors.

Unfortunately playing too well!

Yeah he looks very comfortable at the level in a pretty ordinary side.

What we do with our first pick will be super interesting.

With the vic and wa stocks looking a bit thin, it’ll likely mean some SA prospects go earlier than our pick.

Not that we have to pick a south Aussie. But cumming is that lovely hybrid mid/fwd type and although from NSW would be no flight risk.

Marsh has rocketed up draft boards over the last month and a half on the back of an extremely strong Champs campaign. Here we see him back playing SANFL U18s for West Adelaide and putting together a solid performance with his strong marking and penetrating left boot featuring strongly.

Brilliant come from behind win for the boys. 28 down in third quarter and won by half a goal.

Kai Ivins and Taj Garrett best for mine. Pilot could be anything and the ruck Semmler very good also

Brilliant it was! I thought they were gone to be honest, serious team effort. Will rewatch the game when I have no distractions to asssess best players properly. Agree on Ivins and Garrett from what I saw.

A huge breakout game from Sam Cumming in only his second senior SANFL appearance for North Adelaide. In a game in which his team struggled for long stretches Cumming seemed to represent their only hope of getting back into the contest. There's very little that Cumming can't do, he's a fantastic athlete with a burst of speed and ability to leap for high marks, he can win the ball at stoppage, and he has a lovely long penetrating kick. There will be increasing talk of Cumming pushing well inside the top 10 on the back of this game, and its fully deserved.

Unfortunately the second half of this game represented a major set back in the on going battle between the SANFL camera operators and the zoom button. But as they say, it's much better to lose a battle and win the war... and you may call me a dreamer, but I believe that one day the SANFL camera operators will find the zoom button.

Is Sam Cumming related to Isaac Cumming?
