Yeah that's fair, doesn't change my overall point about why I'd like Bews in the side though.

Idont know what the coach is doing with Bews

When he was selected in the Seniors , and to alot it was a surprise selection - i thought like quite a few that he acquitted himself quite well , showed a good turn of foot , which some Geel players havent got

Then they rested him , and hasnt been seen in the Seniors since - for him not to be in the emergencies or the extended bench against StK is an utter joke

But money is everything of course , under contract and everyone gets fantastic money today , but if this was the 70s where there was very little money , Bews would be gonzo , hed tell Geel to shove it , for not treating him on his merits

Is there a trigger cause? ie. he plays 8 games he gets another year?

It's all very well wanting Bews back, but who goes out. If he didn't come back in for a game or two and acquit himself well, we'd fall back on last years opinion that he was like Duncan- gone, but kept for insurance.

They've probably moved on, when you consider Kolo has to come back. Always going to persevere with COS and Mullin and likely Bowes. MOC is entrenched. Eyes on Knevitt. Which only leaves Martin under the microscope.

Jed has been super for a long time.
But he's a role player at the end. Other than maybe north Melbourne or West Coast there's basically no teams in the comp where he would be a regular starter so Geelong aren't treating him badly.

Martin and/or Bowes. Bews is very stiff.

Kolo, who is a very good player, is unlikely to play again this year, so not part of this argument.

Always a Bews fan, but you can't beat the defender squeeze, and injury taking it's toll. Youth no longer on his side, but agreed it seems a shame.

Bowes is more of a utility. 31 possessions last year round 23 against St Kilda. Hopefully can do that again, but current form makes it seem unlikely. Needs a big game.

Martin as I said, is under the microscope. I don't think anyone here is convinced just yet, but they'll persevere with a fair go to see just what talent they've recruited. Looks like moving on, and away from Bews, to me.

I think I'd read a bit of both into the current situation.

Against Brisbane, it was noticeable that Scott was happy to let Brisbane players run and gun off half back and he chose not to deploy a lockdown. If it's obvious to us then it must be obvious to him and the other coaches. Apart from wanting to win as many H&A games as possible, there's really only one time we need to beat Brisbane, or GWS or Collingwood - and that's in September.

My guess is we might not tweak too much until then. We have to keep winning games to qualify as high as possible. But I think come September we'll see subtle changes aimed at negating much of what King and others are pointing out to us all in July.
I hope you’re right. If you are right, that’s some 4 dimensional chess play going on.

Despite also wanting to retain some of the hope you mention here, the evidence of past years suggests to me that there is less 4D chess going on than we might like to imagine.

Put it this way, if we don't start producing sustained periods of better footy over coming weeks, I certainly won't be expecting to see a 'flicked switch' as we enter the finals. A flat spot right now isn't the worst thing in the world, given the length of the season. But if we aren't travelling better over the next few games, it doesn't augur at all well for stunning teams like the Lions and Giants with some scintillating changes in our method if we meet them again.

And in keeping with the 'one week at a time' philosophy, then, this game would be a very handy moment for us to lift and actually prevent ourselves from already having 0-2 records against three different teams in the 2025 H&A.

This game is sneaky bloody important both for the four points needed for top 4 but also because losing to this mob on our home deck would signal a real problem with any genuine premiership aspirations.

Par is a five goal win.

Cats should get the job done and hopefully rebuild a bit of percentage after last weeks loss.

But if the Saints roll us at home I think it says two things. We're not good enough this year and we can all forget premierships this year - and that we need to forensically identify the gaps on our list and do something about fixing them.

Ruck
Midfield grunt on the inside
Pace and elite kicking skills off half back

Geelong champions + legends!
Future Geelong champions + legends!

Scarlo’s 150m run + goal, take heed Holmes
😹

The Ablett Terrace ♥️ Happy times 😻

Amazing game!

Still miss the umpires’ get up

I am also in the BBB (Bring Back Bews) camp. We need some old fashioned defensive discipline down back.
For myself, I really don't think that Jedda's continued omission from the team is moving the needle on our chances in this game. Still, I do accept that if Higgins has 4+ goals in a 'shock' Saints win, there will be some supporters whose heads will just about explode with rage.

Best of luck, everyone.

We lose this game I think our top 4 chances are pretty much shot right ?
Most likely. There's a few teams vying for similar spots on the ladder that all play each other between now and end of season. But we also need to keep an eye on the Suns who have a game up their sleeve against the Bombers VFL team.

I'd rather be Geelong than a few others but it is going to be a tight finish - teams will miss on %

How many times do we think the commentators will confuse Tyson Stengle and Jack Martin on Sunday?
