Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I am hopeful that some clever poster might compile a timeline of all the disasters to beset this club in 2025. Starting with Jagga’s knee and Elijah’s first holiday before the season started. Extending through to HoF’s acl injury, and leaving space for whatever is to come. The list is going to be very, very long.

About time.

We started a MAJOR rebuild at the end of 2022

Gone since then are Dow, O'Brien, Kennedy, Stocker, Carroll, Plowman, Martin, Marchbank, Fisher, Cuningham, Williamson, Philp, Honey, Durdin, McDonald, Hayes, Setterfield and Owies.

That's 18 players who would now be 25-29 (ie: in the prime of their careers) and who would be in our best 30 players - good enough to contribute to a solid enough squad. You can add to that list Liam Jones, Jack Newnes and Luke Parks who could all still be playing in a different world, plus Ed Curnow (retired).

All we have added since is Blake Acres, Elijah Hollands, Nick Haynes (who is two years older than Plowman), and a few mid-tier draft picks. One pick in the top 10 (currently out with an ACL injury), one other top 15 (Hollands) and the rest just speculative young guys.

It's astonishing to think about, tbh - that we look at that list who so agonisingly fell short against Collingwood, and wonder what happened from there... and its pretty much just that we just gave up on all of the C graders and tried to replace them with bargain basement and rookie list picks.

We're already losing TDK, Docherty, and probably Silvagni (from the sounds of it). Anything more than that this offseason would be an absolute gut punch and send us right back to the start again.

None of them are huge losses. IMO. Nor would it be a huge loss to see Charlie or Cripps go too.

Cue the Weitering haters ???
What a stupid comment.
There is no hate.
Some of us are of the opinion that he’s not suited to the modern game.
I only make comments on what my eyes tell me, and don’t let them get clouded by reputation or past performances.
IMO, he’s one dimensional, too easily exploited by the oppo, and is basically a down the line contested spoiler, who has become a master at pointing to cover up his difficiences.
Happy for you to disagree and provide evidence to the contrary.

Love the positivity in the possiblity of losing our best players. Because this is like European soccer, we just replace them with equal quality superstars in one off season. There really is some over the top expectations of some sort of mini-dip before we challenge again.

Nothing in Carlton's modern history would indicate this will happen. We don't have the culture to curate this possiblity. All of a sudden we are pretty blase about losing Curnow, who would have won 3 Colemans on the trot of he didn't get injured last year. Or our captain and two time Brownlow medalist. We have very short term memories as supporters. It is as if all of a sudden these players have become average. They are human beings, they have obviously lost their sense of football direction in the last year and a half as teams have worked us out and picked us apart easily. If you realise your game plan amounts to being overrun constantly in every game it is very difficult to get up every week.

I would hope these players stay and we get the next coach right. I'd be pretty confident these players will find form again with a modern football coach.

He has stuck it up us posters including me.
He was the whipping boy from round 1 but has had a fantastic year
I had a gut feel he would be a great inclusion if he could stay on the park.
I think Haynes has been fantastic with great leadership qualities.
You can tell he's come from a good team.

'the modern game'

Weitering is one of the best defenders in the comp and remains such even in a down year.

'the modern game' is utter dogshit nonsense used as an excuse to articulate a frustration at a player that can't be articulated using actual evidence. 'It's the vibe your honour. I swears it.'

Taken me a while [might be the slow one here] but I think i have a handle on the 'something wrong' and 'players not happy' thing.

The players HAD real connection with each other and believed they could do something special together. But I think, they have slowly lost faith in the club to put them in a position to deliver. I do wonder if asked, 'has the club done absolutely everything to go all out for a premiership' they would respond emphatically 'NO'. Instead they will feel they have been let down and concluding the club didnt believe in us.

Whether that is trading for young talent, trading out heart and soul players. Not investing in an A grade footy program.

Look I am piecing this together from what I have read, i am not itk but that's my hypothesis.

Not just against players...

Why go the trade route. That’s wasting draft currency. We have two capable tall defenders in the VFL. We can take one of Phillips or DGB as a DFA on Oct 3rd, and then take the other as a SSP pick because HOF is on the LTI. Both of them were unlucky not to be picked up by us.

Phillips is 26/27 next year, so he’d be a good fit to replace JSOS if he does end up going, and DGB is currently 23. Suddenly you look at our KPD progression for the next couple of years and it’s Weitering, Haynes, Phillips followed by Weitering, Phillips, DGB. Then Phillips, DGB and HOF. With Dean popping up for cameos while he develops and fills out.
Phillips definitely deserves some consideration imo…had a solid year

DGB has struggled to get a game early because we had HOF developing in defence and went forward (and done reasonable)

Hell we could offer Liam Jones a year couldn’t we ?

Not heard from Soapy for a while.

I wasn't meaning to be funny. Whats happened?
Soapy has gone into self exile....again!
He was having a torrid to and fro with people arguing with him (very unfairly in my opinion) in regards to his snippets of information that he was generously supplying to us. I don't get it. Some people are just born unnecessarily unappreciative, argumentive and downright nasty. I for one will miss his information and insightful take on things. 😢

Isn’t he football director or coaching director? I know his got some role there still
Executive director of footy performance possibly which sounds fake. But was contracted to 2025 so it probably expires October like most.

Thanks to Perplexity AI, I'm happy to oblige.

January:

President Luke Sayers steps down following a social media incident and ensuing AFL Integrity inquiry.

Star defender Nic Newman ruptures his patella tendon at training—ruled out for the entire 2025 season after surgery. Leadership and defensive structure severely impacted.

February:

No.3 draft pick and gun recruit Jagga Smith suffers an ACL rupture in a pre-season match against St Kilda. Smith (aged 19) misses his entire debut AFL year after undergoing surgery—a devastating blow after trading up for him in the draft.

March–June:

Round 1: Wasteful ball use and a dispiriting loss highlight performance woes.

Key midfielders Sam Walsh (foot injury) and Hudson O’Keeffe (hamstring) miss long stints, further eroding depth.

Large, recurring on-field losses, including big defeats to Port Adelaide (50 points) and Collingwood (56 points).

Mid-Year:

Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay, key forwards, both miss multiple games due to knee and calf injuries, compounding attacking struggles.

Harry O'Farrell, emerging defender, ruptures his ACL in August—season-ending.

June–August:

Trade drama erupts: Charlie Curnow expresses interest in a move to the Suns; other clubs target Tom De Koning—key list instability amid turmoil. Not to mention Crippa, JSOS, Harry, Acres and Walsh.

General:

Mounting injuries, leadership instability, on-field embarrassments, and off-field distractions result in escalating fan unrest and media criticism.

Fun read, right? Can only go up from here. I hope.
