This series right up there with the Ashes 2005 in terms of suspense.

England will do well to pinch 1 test in Australia this summer.
Think with the players atm, wouldn’t be surprised either.
But who knows, Starc Hazlewood Boland and Cummins are still the best in the world.

Agree with 2005....however reckon we are a fair bit behind England as a team. I don't see us winning at home.
We will crush them and it won't even be close.

Even with our dysfunctional top three, their bowling attack will be lucky to take 20 wickets in a test.

What a finish.

Whilst I was going for India cos I can't stand Stokes or McCullum, I couldn't help but feel that if Woakes ended up facing with a few runs needed I would have been barracking for him to bring it home.

Test is best.

2-2. Deserves a decider, but deserve has got nothing to do with it.
Would have been blockbuster had their been a 6th or deciding test - for sure. (An alive rubber especially)

I reckon organizers of the Hundred (which starts in a couple of days) , ECB and BCCI would have loved a decider to determine who is the better side in English conditions at the cost of maybe reducing the white ball stuff for a week or so.

Comms saying these kind of matches great endorsement for test cricket but a need to share the love to other nations outside : Aus, India and England.

We do. Maybe the two tier system would actually work, I don't know.

With all the white ball stuff it is hard getting series of five though. But I think it takes that number of tests to truly build the narrative.

Result is likely in the middle of these. We'll win but it won't be a whitewash with how fragile the top order is. We'll lose one with an embarrassing collapse like today's.

We are favourites, but ENG are a chance.

On paper, their batting lineup seems better, but it's flakey and AUS grounds suit BazBall less than ENG/NZ grounds do.

On paper, our bowling lineup's superior, and winning series in AUS without a decent spinner who can at least keep the runs down is a big ask. Even SA 2008/09 had Paul Harris, who despite being limited was still superior to any ENG option ATM.

EDIT: SA 2012/13 is the only exception, and their lineup was superior on paper + we were better in the first two Tests anyway. SA 2016/17 had Maharaj and a greentop for Philander in Hobart.

I’d rather flog the campaigners in every test

DO NOT give them a road they are useless if it’s not.

Root will still score runs though

Have you not been watching this series? Are you THAT daft? What do this series, and the last Ashes have in common? They are the only two series they haven’t won at home under McCullum and Stokes, ie. Bazball.

They are also the two series in that time, in England, that have featured the flattest pitches.

How long until you get it?

Their BOWLING IS THEIR WEAKNESS 😂😂😂😂

Teams who struggle with the ball, will struggle to win series’ on flat pitches.

Sure they might rattle up some big scores here and there, but where will they consistently get 20 wickets from?

Meanwhile they’ve bettered NZ twice - once at home and once away - on bowler friendly pitches, as well as a 1-1 away draw where - yep, you guessed it, the win was on the seam friendly pitch.
They beat SA at home on seam friendly wickets 2-1. And they did it against SL and the West Indies.

If it’s happening over a small sample size, you can maybe explain it as an anomaly. It’s not. It’s a pattern.

Aussie fans would have great joy (and belief) in winning by a fair margin. (4-0, 4-1 or 5-0).

I think : Starc, Cummins, Boland and Hazlewood will be licking their lips bowling in Perth and GABBA- traditional fast wickets.

Weather in Sydney will probably intervene.

Genuinely don't think England have got that much better since the last time when they were on these shores and lost 0-4.

You don’t think they’ve gotten better since:

Rory Burns, Dawid Malan, Sam Billings, the Ollie Pope that batted at 6 rather than the one that averages 42 at number 3

Now followed by The Hundred a concept the ECB now admits as attracted no new viewers to English cricket but which continues to disrupt the summer.

I still can't believe that braindead shot by Bethell in the second innings.

That should be pack your bags and never come back stuff.

Damien Martyn was banished for years at a young age for throwing his wicket away in similar circumstances. Wonder if it'll happen to Bethell.

They've most certainly gotten better, if only because I don't see how they could've gotten much worse.

BazBall at Adelaide, The Gabba and possibly Perth worries me (shorter boundaries, though the pink ball is a wildcard). SCG a bit less so, and the MCG must be one of the world's least suitable grounds for it.

Still a bit of an unknown with their batters on these wickets. Harry Brook, Duckett (despite spending some time in the BBL), Crawley, Bethell and Jamie Smith for me. All of those batters are a bit unproven in Australia. I also rate Australias middle to lower order better with the bat than Englands.

That England pace attack might cause a bit of trouble to Australia but the key lynchpins in : Smudge, Head and Carey are still world class at this level with the bat.
