This is a hard one to admit but he has appeared to be feeling his age especially in the last 4 or 5 weeks. It gets highlighted more when we have Mitchell and Long next to him when it needs to be some faster types like McCreery or Crisp or Hill but the issue is deeper than this, the entire team is NOT PACK HUNTING. They are outnumbered almost all the time everywhere and we look slow when chasing tail and not supporting each other. On top of that we are moving the ball so so so slow. When we mark the ball at half back we just stop, go back, look around, um and arr a bit then point and boot it long to a pack and lose the ball. Complete shite!

The pointing. WTF is up with that. What kind of dumbarse team tells the opposition EXACTLY where they plan on kicking the ball.

We really need to focus on recruiting faster ball winning players if we are planning to sign on Pendles, Mitchell and Sidey next season. Also, a proper key backman

We've done remarkably well this season to defy age and by extension all logic but it looks like father time might finally be coming for us.

If you thought tonight was a result of us being to old and slow then worryingly our age profile isn't improving next year.

Even more worryingly we might have little choice but to extend all these veterans as not enough young players are stepping up and demanding to take their place right now.

Still, If our season meekly peters out from here it's hard not to sense it'll mark the end of an era, it was our last chance to win a flag with such an old group and very soon we'll have to take our medicine and reset with a new generation of Collingwood players.

On the evidence of tonight I'd rather that be sooner rather than later.
Agree. In these times it’s hard not to think we have made a miscalculation about our list and offering extensions to Pendles, Sidey, Howe et al. The midfield has been exposed this past month.

Things are never as good as they seem, but conversely, they're never as bad.

It's between the ears. Just a moment's hesitation instead of full commitment; a 90% tackling effort instead of full commitment; a "pretty good" defensive transition instead of full commitment.

A handful of players not being there 100% mentally is enough to lose a game against any side who come to play. More than a dozen blokes running around at less than full power gives you what you saw tonight, a VFL level performance.

Outworked on the spread, outnumbered at every contest, outmarked, beaten for the hard ball, and an absolute structural clusterf**k as a result. Our gameplan falls apart if even a few guys are off; it falls off a cliff when so many aren't switched on.

The problem for us is the between the ears stuff is fickle. It's not an easy fix. Momentum, form, confidence have SO MUCH inertia in this sport and a trend in either direction is just so difficult to correct.

If I have faith in anyone to do it, it's Fly, Pendles, and our leadership. And to be honest, I'd MUCH prefer going up against impossible odds in Adelaide with no expectations than a "should win" game against a cellar dweller.

It will be a tough ask from here, but you're only ever one week away from turning the tide and rediscovering the ability we've proven ourselves to have.

We might be cooked, or we might find that missing 10% that puts us right back in the mix. Maybe it's blind hope, but based on our last three seasons, I'm choosing to believe the latter is possible. Go Pies.

(Also hawthorn have THUMPED us with consistent regularity for the better part of two decades, including our two most recent premiership years, so take any performance against the zoomers in Harry Potter getup with a grain of salt bigger than JK's transphobia)
Try five decades. I've endured most of them too. It's a genuine mystery as to how this can keep happening and yet the club clearly prefers to pretend it's not an issue. They really do seem to intimidate us.

I think it's been the worst season of footy I've seen in many a long year. There has hardly been a memorable game. Past seasons have had plenty- at least one or two a week.

It's the first season I can remember in my life where there is basically a massive divide between the top 8 and bottom 8. In previous years the teams from 9th through to about 15th can usually compete week in week out, and it's only really the bottom 2 or 3 in the constant blow outs

I went tonight on spur of moment, midfield was like last week, just got killed. We need some speed, Mitchell, Pendles and Sidey and Long as the sub don't have that. I was perplexed we dropped Allan he is not going to rip up the game but hadn't done a lot wrong and is a point of difference with some pace, especially seeing McCreery is out. If we don't win it this year and we still could turn it around, but if we don't it puts us in an interesting position with not a lot of youth and not much to trade for draft picks

It's now top 8, bottom 10. I don't think we can say we can compete with the other top 8 teams anymore. We're 0 - 4 and about to go 0 - 5

We are fked mate.

honestly I hope the players all go away together over the weekend and sort this mess out. Much like how carlton did in 2023 I think, when carlton players had a team only retreat at curnows farm . It sparked a finals run.

Think something very similar is required for this group. Fly's messaging is no longer landing with this group, this is something they need to sort of themselves. we have a 9 day break until we play adelaide, perfect time to just get away from it all and work out just what the hell is happening to them.
Honestly don’t think that would make any difference.

KPF, KPD is an issue.
Missing Beau and Bobby’s pace.
Midfield is not quite right
Season ending injuries to Reef, Harvey Harrison

Unlike yourself conspiracy and negativity are not my default settings - And true to form you have an issue with a positive post.
Says a lot.

“True to form”

lmao

You have no clue what you’re talking about and this post proves it

I almost never reply to positive posts when I see them. I’m spending too much time replying to the whiners like yourself who attack me for my posts

No better example than yesterday when I tried to explain the bad vibes people got from that “keep the faith” video

Lo and behold…our instincts seemed to be spot on on that one

It was a weird video for us to put out. It’s not a thing we’ve done before. Ever. It gave us a glimpse into the truth behind the “four walls” that I doubt the club realised they were giving us

We constantly hear the club talk about not taking in external noise and it’s all about “inside the 4 walls”

We now know with 100% certainty that the club does in fact take in the external noise

2 damage control videos in 2 seasons confirms it and it’s a worry

But even in lopsided seasons you can see quality footy and close games between the poorer teams and great games when the top teams clash. There has just been one dud game after another, and I live and breathe footy.

It’s been a shattering six days, with our premiership chances seemingly going down the drain in that time.People keep saying we’re slow, and we are,but it hasn’t been a major problem until the last few weeks.

Something is seriously with this side. There’s no spirit,no will to win,no desperation. The players look tired, lethargic and completely out of ideas how to win games.Maybe there is something to the rumours about the players being dissatisfied with their contract offers?Or maybe it’s just that this old side is cooked all of a sudden and has run out of gas.

Whatever it is,something has gone seriously wrong at the club in recent weeks, and it can’t be glossed over anymore.

What's the video

That was Steele Sidebottoms 350th game, disgusting effort for an outright legend of this club. And absolutely heartbroken to see Jeremy Howe go down like that.

Craig McRae looked absolutely, categorically, filthy. He looked completely disappointed and angry in his post match presser to say the least. He had to keep himself from going off hook whenever a reporters question forced him to relive a moment in that insipid performance. You could see whenever he started to unpack that game in his head, he started to get angry. That was one of the more incredible post match pressers I've seen from him. I hope what we saw from him was only a millionth of what those players will cop tonight. They sure as shit deserve a ****ing wake up call if the result of this game wasn't one already.

What can you even say about that game? All you need to do is watch Fly's presser, he illustrates it all quite well. That performance felt like the death of a team. It had an air to it that I did not think this team was capable of dishing up. That was shocking and looked like those blokes gave up before they even started.

We'll drop out of the top four. If we lose the first final, that's the season wasted. If we win it, we're up against it all the way to the Grand final, if we even somehow get it back together. Don't even get me started on the mathematical possibilities of us missing the 8 all together, because it's real.

Who can be credited for effort tonight? Schultz perhaps? DeGoey had some moments, Long actually put his guts into it. Nick looked like he was trying to play the role of about 5 different midfielders. Anyone who pinned these poor performances on Charlie Dean should take a hard look at themselves, because it sure as shit was never his fault given what we all just witnessed.

Jesus christ

Most of our players 30+ have hit the wall. The season is too long for aging players. And we don't have enough youth to cover 6 -8 players being down on their performance.

Looks like we’ll have DC and Hill to trade to WA. Both are contracted so we should be very aggressive at the trade table, including a play for Harley Reid, to partner Nick in our new midfield.

Watching tonight, first time I actually think we could be cooked.
Its not even about tonight, but little by little, it's been building since the bye. Or even before the bye. The cracks are there.

We looked slow. No energy, no hunger. No pressure, couldn't chase or hunt. Ball movement was horrific, we were boring.

Not sure how to fix it. You can't even blame one player, it was a collective as a group everyone was off. Lack of connection between all lines. Very disconnected everywhere

Not sure it’s even on their page anymore. I struggle to find it on the Collingwood Facebook page

Makes me think they deleted it but I never use Facebook anymore so not sure
