No. I think it gathered significant momentum over the weekend after Thursday night’s disaster and Edmund hadn’t checked in with Young before jumping on Crunch time. The articke just happened to come out about 12 hrs ago and they were the most recent published comments.
Maybe. An alternative is that like the Pendles one, which we've been told in the media has been done for a while, it's been announced at a point to give fans rather than the playing group a boost.

Look at Gawn, he’s still kicking on as a great ruck at 33-34. No reason DC can’t do the same.

Either way, glad he’s staying with us
Gawn is a unicorn. How many other ruckman have you seen make it to 34 at the peak of their powers? Again I’m not blind to it being what it took, but I look at the drop off of Cox this year and that’s what can happen.

Been a few attempted boosts for the fans of late… I’d hope this isn’t another of those and they’ve just gone about the business of getting the contract done.

Goldy is still going around at 36 lol Abeit not at his best.
The risk with Darcy is the ruck rules. He's likely to continue to get stronger and thus better over the next couple of years if ruck remains a grapple, but if they do change the rules to swing the ruck pendulum back towards leapers, he might struggle.

I think they do sit on these contract announcements for a while to time their impact - I don't see the issue.

Also quick message to Ralphy, get stuffed campaigner, interesting to see how he spins the DC development

It's easy. Pies in freefall with an extremely disgruntled playing group panic to try to soothe the players by committing to one of their old blokes with a really bad long term contract.

Witts & Goldstein have all been effective at 32-34 too. I think with the fewer miles Cameron has a chance

To the media, particularly Jon 'dribbles shit' Ralph and all those who said DC was Eagles bound

Hopefully one of the guys coming through is the replacement and DC will be there to bring them through.

There really isn't a way of looking at it. Things have changed in training. Blokes playing well at 34 in any role is a really new thing and Gawn is from an era where there was a massive dearth of quality ruckmen, so you just haven't had many in a position to test how likely it is to still be a good ruck at 34.

Great news about DC! Considering the media drivel from Jon Ralph and friends. What excuse will they have now to convince us all that the club is fractured?

So... if Bobby isn't selected for this week we can probably concede that things aren't going well for him. If that is the case, what are the chances that he signed til 2029 to give the club trade leverage if he already knew he'd have to leave? He loves this club. Is there any record of a player having done that for their club in the past?

I need to be clear as well that I'm just expressing a curiosity and this isn't intended to be a cynical doom post. I'm really hopeful he'll be selected for the Crows and that it really was just some very unlucky gastro. Miss you Bob

I assume Darcy Cameron reduced his requested salary after being destroyed by Meek on the weekend?

Few other players should also reduce their salary expectations after some of their recent performances.

No issues with DC playing until he's 34.

The ruckman don't even jump in the middle anymore so injuries are becoming less common. He doesn't play like a TDK and Grundy who rely on their vertical and ground ball abilities.

He would have had to want to be traded, which might not have been an option at the moment
Well we could have forced it by being firm with our original offer. Yes there are always inaccuracies in media reporting, but give the fact that the contract negotiations were dragged out for this long indicates that there was some truth to the fact that both camps were in fact in some of standoff.

I would be surprised if he we didn’t consider a 2 year deal with a trigger for the 3rd.

It depends what they do with the ruck rules. Swan says he's keen to see rucks jumping again.

Elliot already once turned his back on going back to Queensland, I wonder if he will do it again this time around, especially when you factor in his age.
