Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

this notion of there not being a game plan in the 4th quarter of the GC game.... really? 18 players on the field can just coordinate themsleves playing on instinct?

reckon that, for whatever reason, we got to play the way we wanted to in the 4th and built good momentum

I think you're right and throw in the Suns thinking they have 3 games in the ensuing 18 day period and that they'd built a lead took their foot off the gas almost too much.

When we get our stuff going it looks good but there's reasons for it.

A pattern of behaviour that when the game is lost that our players take chances that they normally don’t take is not a game plan.

If it is and the players can only perform to the plan once the game is lost then the coach needs to change the players.

If coaching is the inhibitor of playing to the game plan then remove the coach.

Simples?

Or maybe when the game is lost the opposition is not as attentive and enables us to take, what appear to be, chances because there is a little extra space and/or time

Now explain why we have generally performed better in first quarters.

We need more drive from Centre Clearance and Stoppage. If De Konig stays(doubtful), play him as an onballer and draft Flyn Reilly & Harding to bolster the ruck stocks. Luke Jackson played on Cripps 2 weeks ago, so the idea has legs
yeah I will miss the drive he provides if he leaves

The opposite reason than what happened on Saturday.

Gold Coast's job this week was to not get involved in a scrappy game. They wanted to put the game to bed early. Preserve as much energy as possible for the GWS game and then their Friday-Wednesday double. They took the foot off the accelerator.

In most of our other games opposition teams are happy to play rope-a-dope. They know that we need to work 2-3 times harder than most to get the production on the board. Even in the quarters and halves we've dominated most of the time you walk away thinking "we should really be 2+ goals up" per quarter of dominance. They will absorb the damage knowing that through our own inability that it won't be maximum damage. It's the second half after they've absorbed our best shot that they push into gear and run over the top of us.

Teams know they can put the game to bed early against us. Brisbane gave the blueprint in the elimination final last year. Much of it really is doing what teams do in the second half to us. Instead of absorbing they switch on early. By the time they take the foot off the comeback is almost meaningless and if necessary they can find a way to steady (just as Brisbane did in the final).

The book is well and truly out on how to beat Carlton. We don't have the players, the structures, the system or the gameplan to counter it despite how much I will readily accept Voss has tried.

Speaking of game plans, is there any reason Carlton can't make a new game plan that's never been achieved before.
Instead of copying the top sides, come up with a way to change how AFL is played once again.
We be the leaders for once. Get ahead of the pack. 🤷
Or am I only wishing this could happen. 🙏

Pretty sure we aren't copying anyone.

Players aren't fatigued?

If the players can only carry out the game plan when not fatigued, then either get players fit enough to do so, get fitter players or get a new game plan that works when carried out by fatigued players?

This notion that teams pick and choose when to play the gameplan in isolation is bewildering.

A huge part of strategy is getting the game played on your terms, and denying the opposition their terms.

We didn't throw caution to the wind and play on instinct. For whatever reason, we were able to get the game fully on our terms, dominate territory and score easily. Big part of that is probably due to Gold Coast taking the foot of the peddle, but that was a good indication of how we want to play.

The more pertinent question is, why can't we get the game on our terms more often, and are there fundamental problems that prevent that from happening?

Re: Charlie

Not surprised that he wants a change.

Seems to have lost the enjoyment.

Hopefully we can find a way to re-spark that for him

Based on Voss's pressers, it seems 'play the youth' is official so I think have a bunch a young keen - and even cocky- kids like Moir around Charlie might re-invigorate him.

...and I still don't mind the idea of playing Charlie back (or Harry).

You're not...?
Ashton Kutcher Burn GIF

If Charlie wants to leave, then **** him off to Sydney. Geelong getting him woukd just be stupid. “Look, our oldies on low coin are retiring. So we have the money to bring in Bailey Smith, Charlie Curnow and we are seriously considering Harley Reid as well.” Piss off.
