May as well not even have judges then, just leave it to computer nerd algorithms

How else are you judging their average performance?

because if you're not using the ratings then you'll likely be referring to other stats.

Curtin's contested marking and quality ball allows him to have more influence per disposal than some of the other contenders.

Stupidist most compromised award in the AFL. Some players are eligible for 2 years in a row, players in successful teams are penalized for not getting enough games and 'round' winners are based on nothing.
Look at some of the past winners.
I pay absolutely zero attention to it.
So, why are you in this thread then? Just ignore it.

I'd personally have Ashcroft behind Reid and Curtin.

That being said, Ashcroft has exceeded my expectations playing a wing/half forward role that he would've had to learn on the run, and away from his natural inside midfield role. Has had very little midfield time (only recorded his first centre bounce attendance against GC a few weeks ago) given the midfield strength.

Last two weeks where he's been given a bit more midfield time in the absence of Neale:
vs Sydney - 27 disposals (14 contested), 6 marks, 7 clearances (3 centre clearances), 6 inside 50s, 1 goal.
vs Fremantle - 19 disposals (10 contested), 5 marks, 6 clearances (1 centre clearances), 4 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s.

Would Archie Roberts numbers be so high if the ball wasn't constantly in the back half?

You know like if he wasn't in a crap team
It was a pretty normal game for him. 1 goal, 13 touches, 7 score involvements
Funnily enough Robert’s also had 7 score involvements last night. In amongst his 27 disposals, apparently all in the backline.

whilst everyone else somewhat stumbled, our boy had another very good game last night

Harry Royston leading the charge for this week you'd assume with 4 goals in a big win for the Giants today

Given cooper Harvey didn’t get one for 4 goals, I’d assume cooper Trembath gets it for 2 games @ 3 goals per game.

As an aside, and I’m not advocating for him to win it, but FOS has been massively under rated this year.

He’s not racking up huge numbers but he’s playing as a genuine defender (better than sheezel or Kerch did), and going at over 80%.

Trembath has kicked 6 goals and had 3 contested marks in his first two games of footy, would have to be close.

Croft also had a good game

Question - What would Archie Roberts actually had to have done this season to get the award given his position and team situation?

Same position and height/weight as Daicos 2022. Stats very similar. Daicos had 53 kick ins, Roberts 23 so could argue he's won more ball. Daicos clean swept the award ahead of Sam De Koning and Jai Newcombe. Would Daicos be the clear favourite this year over Reid? Also not far off Sheezel's numbers who had 66 kick ins that year.

Media is all over Murphy Reid and I imagine he's got it in the bag based on the hype.

But if the question was which player has performed consistently close to the ceiling of what's possible in their role I'd say Roberts. Reid has shown us he can kick bags of 4 goals and that's a good game for a small forward. Every time he has 14 and 1 goal seems like it's actually underperforming but everyone goes nuts.

And if there was any consistency in their logic then Jye Amiss and Mitchito Owens should have easily won the award over Sheezel 2023.
