I said similar in the game thread yesterday. I hate that the player who was clamouring for more accountability throughout the team has become our least accountable defender.

Weiters needs to set the example.
I first noticed it against Adelaide last season when we played them at Marvel. Walker destroyed him and he constantly played 10 - 15 metres off him the entire time. A big factor in is losing the game.

Young was great yesterday. Whatever the issue is work it out. It solves a massive need.
Young has been great all year .. every time he has been asked to do something like play forward or back or ruck I have felt he has done a good job … not gonna set the world on fire but a good backup

Weitering at his worst is still a quality player. His floor is most KPDs ceiling.

His ceiling is the best KPD in the comp or at least equal to that of Sam Taylor.

Unfortunately for Young his floor is bordering on a complete liability at AFL level. His good is good but the gap is too wide.

Weiters hasn't been great this year but neither have almost any of the rest of the team. Just have to back in that he gets back to his very best after a break in the off season. that said Weiters, Haynes and Jack looked rock solid as a trio in the first half of the season though. Dominated in the air.

Hoping those 3 are still our KPD trio in 2026 if JSOS isn't already gone.

I think oppo coaches had recognised it before then, teams are playing through his man a lot

Harry McKay puts in a blinder and Matthew (Brainiac) Lloyd comes out this morning on Footy Show - time to trade out Curnow. 🤣

It’s been happening for a lot longer than that. Weitering has never been able go with leading forwards. It’s why we set up the way we do down back with multiple intercepting defenders essentially defending zones of space. When our defending up the field breaks down or we commit a horror turnover it’s why we see him caught out of position and unable to impact contests.

It’s also why he often gets upset on field when teammates don’t follow instructions. It seems like he is the closest we have to an on field coach. He often instructs teammates. I used to see his body language as a negative but I think it was more him seeing players do stuff on field that is not part of the way Voss wants them to play.

I really think we should change the leadership at the end of this year. I’d like to see Weitering and Walsh become the official leaders of the club and Cripps take a back step. Weitering the tactical on field leader. Walsh the player leader to drive the on and off field standards among the players. It may take some of the burden off Cripps to allow him to get back to his best.

Only trade Curnow for a King's ransom.

Has to be aligned with numerous other list goals and get us everything we want.

McKay's game yesterday is proof that a star is a star, and form changes.

Curnow has been playing hurt, has received an insane amount of criticism and been the recipient of the worst forward 50 delivery of his career.

Even then he still kicked more than a goal a game.

Imagine how a full preseason and playing with multiple other dangerous marking targets will improve his output.

Ah yes the refuge of every disaffected and disappointed Carlton Supporter - the promise of a full pre-season where everyone looks bigger, stronger and faster. 🤣

I’d just like Curnow to give a **** when we don’t have the ball, everything else will happen off the back of that

Agree he has been lacking here. But I think this has a lot to do with his mentality.

Has seemed frustrated a lot of this season

Well I don't want them smaller, weaker and slower

He also moved the ball on quickly instead of hatching it which he has a tendency to do, made a difference having the ball in motion.

In terms of on-field coaching Weiters is more Thornton than Hodge (or even Nic Newman) - up there as the biggest disappointment of these last 15 months imho

I’m surprised he didn’t raise to trade Harry and get best value. I mean NFI, so fully expect such statements.

I certainly wouldn't say he's been great at all year, imo he's been well under the level his whole career, that changed yesterday.
It was by far his best game. It was like watching a different player.. one with confidence, his hanballing was top shelf, he played to his strengths.
He wasn't caught watching his man instead of the ball and made a great spoil out numbered 2 on 1, very impressive, I wan't to see consistency now.

Weiters should follow Tex's example and remove 5 kilo's to extend his career.
Who is the fattest current AFL player...Crows Fogarty and closely followed by Weiters and some lumbering rucks?

Yeah I also have noticed this going on for some time, it's not just Weitering though. Pretty sure it's coaching direction for all the backs to play 10 meters off. It's bad direction from awful coaches, I think the theory is so they can break away when in possession easier, of course the problem it results in slow sideways or backwards ball movement when in possession, on top of that it ends up with poor ball users in possession too often in a slow play situation.
The most unimaginative coaching group, can't believe they even get paid.

Disagree, I think Weiters never quite lost the lack of resilience that Bolton tried to make him 'endure' through to build in him.
