No “star” is walking in through the doors at PP for 2026. We will be limited to bringing in role players/solid citizens/draftees. That’s regardless of who walks out.
I'm ok with that, two speed system of stars and the rest hasn't worked, we need to raise our floor with a better grade of mid career solid players - think newman hewett types who aren't AAA players but immediately improve the list for 5+ years.

two or three good players, dean, ison and another F1 for next year would be a decent return

There should be a new focus at Carlton on developing young Players to be the best they can be ... a bit like how some teams have average lists with few Stars where the Coaches get the most out of them. (eg Richmond, Geelong)

Could start with improving their skills, especially if they have a weakness .. ie good Player but poor kicking .. or poor awareness, endurance etc. I can't see why Coaches can't turn a B Grader into B+
From what I hear ... Carlton have been very poor at developing Players .. time to finally tick that box
We already do that

People who dont want to work/play/live in a certain environment dont usually get the best out of themselves, in professional sport where the margins between good and great are pretty small, having a player who isn’t fully committed or invested isn’t viable long term.

If Charlie wants to go, as long as we get a very good return, then fine.

This feels true but suspect Luke Power's influence is starting to shine through (these things don't happen overnight)

Matt Carroll, Hudson O'Keeffe, Lachie Cowan, Ollie Hollands, Ashton Moir, Harry O'Farrell, Cooper Lord all gradually developing in the right trajectory.

Your're right though, an accelerated player development program should be an area we heavily resource. Next mission is to maximise the talents of the Campo twins.
I have a question for you and others extolling the virtues of Luke Power. It relates to the fact that he has been with us since 2019, yet only recently have we started kicking goals on the development front. Power assumed the role of head coach of our VFL in 2023, thus to at least a degree passing on the mantle of development.

Is it possible that the improved development over the last couple of years can be attributed more, or at least equally to some more recent hires?

Have a listen to Weitering this morning re blokes that want out.
I doubt that he’d be that definitive publicly without the club’s imprimatur.
The club have stated they need to get busy.
Too do so they’ll need currency, both in trade capital and salary cap space.
Join the dots and don’t look back …

Think people are overstating what we could possibly get for Charlie.
No chance we're getting 2 first rounders + a player.

I posted previously, I've heard from a good source that Sydney is coming hard for him and that their first rounder + Logan McDonald was being floated.

McDonald doesn't do it for me, but i'd suggest there would be a nice B+ grader we could get along with their first rounder.

Clubs know Charlie's knee is cooked. 3 knee operations in 1 season.
If clubs know his knee is cooked, why are they coming hard at him?

Then he stays…

Will this also apply to Charlie?
Agree.
but Charlie did sort out a journalist after the Hawthorne game and said "I obviously want to be here," Curnow told reporters after Carlton's 24-point loss to Hawthorn on Thursday night. "I don't really want to make this about me right now, but I'm playing at Carlton next year. There you go. Done."24 July 2025

Everything else we are reading are opinion pieces.

Are you the type of boss/manager who has decent amount of experience as you stated, that would walk someone immediately if they resigned?

Not letting them say their goodbyes, not doing a handover, watch them pack their desk and escort them out of the building.

Justifying in your mind that they would take company IP in the last few weeks of their notice period.

Only problem is, if that employee was so way inclined to do that, it would have been done prior to handing in resignation.

Walking them is embarrassing and just caters to management spite.

TDK hasn’t done anything wrong. So why punish him?
You are barking up the wrong tree with me.

If the staff member was on 75k, leaving for a promotion to go to 95k or so, then no, I would not walk them or be a bit cold. It's life changing, will really help them, and they owe me nothing. But we are talking about a high level employee who we are offering over 1 million per year, leaving for not that much more in the grand scheme of things. I don't want to go into what I earn but the difference between 1.2 and 1.7 barely moves the needle.

So yeh, if my employee was upper management let's say C level executive and they left for more money, you bet your arse they would be walked on the spot.

Let's not start pretending TDK hasn't been looked after, and would have been continued to be looked after. You are either out or in.....Ps, NAS stayed at STkilda after his crazy godfather offer from Adelaide, what's the difference?

If you want to leave for the money fine, go, but you go on the spot and we owe him ZERO

I think it will start with a 3rd team getting involved...

Just because you asked so nicely 😉

Carlton
In : Reid

Out : Curnow - McGovern
TDK compo (7) - Jack compo (end 1st)

WC
In : Warner - McDonald - McGovern

Out : Reid - 2nd pick

Sydney
In : Curnow - TDK compo (7)
WC 2nd pick - Jack compo (end 1st)

Out : Warner - McDonald

Righto trade board warriors …
Knock yourselves out with this one until we’ve got something serious to discuss 😂
