I think there's lots of praise for the NWM move, not so much for TDK. If anything, there's been a lot of questions about the TDK move.

As Fab on the Prendercast said "If South Morang offered NWM $2m a year, he'd be playing there !"

I guess my question would be: would players who are about to take part in a season defining clash be having medical with an opposition team in the lead up to the game?

Perhaps they would be. But it just seems unlikely to me.

I understand the extra $ would be hard for TDK to reject and I hope it doesn't ruin him like it seemed to with Tom Boyd. I hope TDK is miserable at work with all the pressure and expectations that will come with it, but not as a person outside of footy

I have seen the Tom Boyd precedent brought up at least half a dozen times. I don't really think it's comparable.

Boyd was a former #1 pick, traded after his debut season, having played 9 games and just turned 19yo. Which is infancy for a 200cm key forward.

TDK has been in the AFL for 8 years, played 100 games and would be much more able to handle the scrutiny IMHO.

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

It just says first rd, what would be stopping us from questioning the AFL on the formula and getting a higher first rd pick than our own given it just says first round. This TDK free agency move hasn't happened before, hope we are pushing on a higher pick because of the unprecedented situation. Top Ruckman in his prime about to be the second highest paid player in the game!

1st round means after your natural 1st round pick. It doesn't mean 'somewhere in the first round'.

The AFL is not going to upgrade our 1st round pick to pick 4 because it's 'unfair'.

Despite the $1.7M contract, TDK is not the situation that is going to change the entire system.

If rumours are to be believed, JSOS contract offers are 4 yrs and $700k or so would be around band 2. Best case scenario it's end of first round, but more likely band 2 so another 2nd round pick.
