JSOS’s departure has been weighing on me so much that I dreamt I ran into Jack here in NYC—an unlikely scenario, but I gave it my all. I told him the Club is more than its coaches or admin; it’s the fans, and we absolutely adore and value him.

I pointed out that fans have, at times, criticized Cripps, Walsh, Weitering, Charlie, McKay, and even Doch online, but never Jack—not once. We know he always gives 100% and is the ultimate clubman.

I said that while he’s a professional and doesn’t owe loyalty to a club he was born into, he should consider how he’ll feel in 20 or 30 years if he leaves now for the wrong reasons, breaking the bond with the fans who make the Club what it is. He listened, thanked me for sharing, but didn’t hint at his decision.

It might be too late, but I tried :)

I wonder if Jack will break out singing to you in your next dream Manhattanite in New York….. :D

“Start spreading the news, I’m leaving today.
Don’t want to be part of it, New York, New York.
These vagabond Blues, I’m longing to stray.
I wanna wake up in a club, that doesn't sleep.
Find I’m king of the hill, top of the heap..”

The good: The club being more secure.
The bad: “gimme dat!”
Craving assurance and certainty!

This is just a bizarre thing to say. Hawthorn got a pick after their first, which is the max compo just like we're going to get. Also why would the AFL punish the team he was leaving and not Sydney?
Prior to Buddy there was originally a Band 0 threshold for the GWS ans GC club raids that gave out a start of first round compensation pick and, or, one in the middle of the first round. I dont think any of the players actually qualified for it but it was there. They then introduced free agency and Buddy was the first year of that system. Everyone assumed the same rules would apply but (whether because Buddy decided on Sydney over GWS or not) when they were introduced the Band 0 threshold was removed for normal free agency and the highest pick was after 1st round.

It would be interesting to know what the alternative conversation would look like. 'no I'm leaving, please don't tell anyone kind stranger'...
That's what makes a good journo, or interviewer. Clever people wouldn't ask questions with a simple yes or no answer.
It's amazing how much info you can get from people when you ask a leading question and then just let them talk.

Stranger: “Please tell me you’re staying at Carlton, Charlie.”

Charlie Curnow: “I’m staying at Carlton.”

Sandra Sully: “Charlie Curnow has officially been traded to the Gold Coast Suns.”.

Contracted til the end of 2025 so we can still trade him but clubs might just wait and see if he is delisted after the trade period and get him for free. Mind you pick 62 has no draft points associated with it so if it's a pick like that we are giving him away for free anyway
Voss has publicly said he wants to keep Mitch....for what that's worth...

You're right that there was a band zero during the introduction of GC and GWS. But Buddy was in the second year of the FA system and the bands had already been established in 2012. Goddard being the big one that first year.

It's probably what you would say in regards to any situation. You will want the other clubs who want Mitch to think we still want him otherwise thats an opening for them to get him for nothing.

We may still want him. Probably depends on Silvagni. We may also want to renegotiate his contract if he stays. If no other club wants him then we can reduce his contract and there is nothing he can really do about that.

Well, on a reduced contract, he’s likely to serve up even more insipid performances than we’ve unfortunately become accustomed to.
Best to clear out his locker this morning and get on with assembling a competitive list going forward …

It’s been worse this year all the trade shit because of how boring and inconsequential a lot of games have been since about round 10.

The trade stuff is the only rubbish they can talk about instead.

Cannot wait for this season to be over and done with.
Trade videos/articles get the most traffic by a significant margin at any time of year. It generates more engagement than any other category media puts out.

It's not just localised to the AFL, it's the same in every sport. It's why soccer in the UK has about 73 transfer articles about 1 player moving to 3 different leagues in one day, with none of the of any substance, yet they will be the most clicked on articles of the day.

Some pages I've seen (mostly American) even put out multiple articles with the headline something like "trade proposal that would rock the league" where it's literally an article about a comment someone made of a hypothetical trade. The amount of traction that sh**e gets is insane, considering it's literally the equivalent of posting an article about something the guy on the street was yelling out. Or someone reading a trade proposal on BigFooty and making an article about it.... (looking at you Sam)

Point being, it wouldn't have mattered if the games were relevant, Charlie potentially looking for a trade would still be the most talked about story, and it would still be the most engaged with piece of media.

In fairness to Manhattanite’s dream, I once bumped into Ang Christou while I was walking around Macy’s in New York.
I saw Tom Alvin at LA airport in July…

Nope, our stance needs to be that we want him, even if we don't. Otherwise someone picks him up for free unstead of us getting something for him.

We want him until another club comes looking. If that does not happen then we either make the decision to trade him or re-sign him.

I think McGovern's future depends on Silvagni. We played McGovern in a slightly new defensive role with Weitering, Silvagni, Haynes and Him and that didn't work for us or McGovern.

I think we will seriously look into trading Silvagni. In my opinion I can see why Collingwood seriously want him and that is as a replacement for Howe which means they will go hard to get him. i think we can get something pretty good coming our way.

It would be pretty bad list management to lose both Silvagni and McGovern. Particularly with the injury to O'Farrell.

Haynes will stick with his role on a wing most likely. Weitering FB and someone has to play CHB, probably Young or Dean. Third tall or CHB will have to be McGovern or Dean.

Silvagni is UFA
We’ll get the assigned compo pick for him if he leaves.
We might wrangle a fourth rounder for McGovern from someone.
Might be better to make a statement to the remaining list that conditional players are no longer required at Carlton …

A return of B70, EB or EricPascoe would be a dream right now.

Somehow we even ran B70 off the board... I know he posted a handful of times after he said that but it was clear the energy wasn't the same.

Many of those leaks originated from someone who used to work at the club either directly or indirectly.

Leaks slowed down when they left and almost ground to halt when the presidency changed.

Now most of them are shared by people who are less connected to the club but have clear associates on the board or in the footy/coaching department or the list itself.

That said, there has been a lot of misinformation shared this year that I feel is intentional from different segments of the club. Sadly, I fell into this one. That and the amount of pure bullshit spouted by some I thought more highly of is amazing. Some of it just doesn't make sense despite them having genuine connections to people within the club today.

I enjoyed all the input of the ITK posters - but could it be that there is less ITK for them to be ITKing about.

As I understand the riot act has been read to another clubs football dept with respect to keeping things in house.

This could be an industry wide phenomenon 😉
