would Jai Serong from Hawthorn be a viable option at CHB ?
a lot cheaper than Silvagni, just not getting the opportunity being behind Barrass, Battle and Sicily
I don't know where he's at now, but James Blanck was looking promising for them at the end of 2023. Did his knee and missed last year and now no one is going to get a look in: they're just stacked with aerial defenders: Barrass, Weddle, Scrimshaw, Sicili, Battle.

I don’t mind Blanck at all. He’s a bit bigger, but seems a bit more defensive minded.

Maybe we're not mentioned because we're sitting a distant third in the bidding?
It sounds like the Dogs and Saints are up to their eye balls in Silvagni and we're probably up to our shoulders with him....
These journos are usually the first to declare when a club is out of the race for a player. This just tells you they have zero clue where the Pies are at lol.
It was a fair bit of speculation from Morris to then say “he will choose between the Pies, Dogs and Saints”
So no club is out of it at this stage.

Those who were saying he was definitely coming to us, because they were told, better check their sources, lol.....
I did hear that someone very high up at the club was telling people he’s a done deal… quite awkward if it doesn’t go our way. Which looks to be the case at the moment.

could be a blessing in disguise, forking out 700-800k/year for a 27yr old who has has had injuries and played half season of good footy over his career is not my idea of shrewd recruiting.

It doesn’t sound smart, it’s just what you have to pay free agents these days but it is ridiculous depending on the history of the player. Silvagni perfect example. Just so risky.

Craig Kelly did mention on SEN this morning that clubs have to pay more to get these guys in. Whatever we decide to do I’ll back it.

“Half a season of good footy over his career” - I understand you don’t want JSOS but this type of hyperbole is just dumb.

Silvagni played 128 games over 10 years for Carlton.
That is an average of 12.8 games per season.
If we get him for 4 years at 700k and he averages same for us that would be 51.2 games total
That would work out at around 13, 671$ per game played.
Not bad bikkies.

EDIT: Forgot to multiply 700k by 4.
So games played would be 54K per game played.

Thanks, Ksardog.

Mental from St Kilda. Just insane numbers.

Morris says Jack will meet with them in the next few days + complete a medical. He will then decide between Pies, Dogs or Saints.

Honestly if Carlton get band 1 compo out of all this I won’t be happy. Would rather him go to the Dogs lol.

Look, even the goal umpire has more flags than St Kilda.

If I was a Saints fan I'd be rapt with what they are doing - time will tell whether they are the right players but at least they are having a fair dinkum crack at improving their team.

Personally I'm not a fan of Silvagni - not sure he is an immediate need. If Saints get him for 5 years for that sort of cash good luck to them I say

totally agree. In addition, IF Silvagni is indeed meeting and doing medicals with other clubs at this stage (after allegedly only being in conversation with Collingwood for a while there), that would suggest he's a mercenary and not moving out of Carlton for the "right reasons".

850k for a player like him with limited credibility vs. 900K for dual AA houston? Nah thanks. The notion that it could trigger a First Round compensation pick for Carlton is even more laughable

Maybe NWM and a couple of other kids will make the difference, but it looks like a repeat of about 5 years ago when they did the same thing adding: Hill, Ryder, Howard, Butler, Jones

Someone just posted that JSOS is averaging 12.8 games a season over 10 years. So he's missed 50% of his entire career to date with injuries I assume. Then he's played like a handful of games this year as a backman and impressed before, like clockwork, going down for the rest of the season.

That would suggest what the other bloke is saying is not hyperbole and quite the truth. Good or bad footy aside, he has literally only been averaging half a season of footy over his career :laughv1:

I would much rather be offering 800K to Lek Aleer over JSOS. I am guessing it wouldn't be much of a choice if he were presented going to St. Kilda vs. Collingwood

Heard Ned's (Kelly, not Guy!) comments on SEN this morning re our list management strategy. Pretty sensible comments about letting experienced players go if they were getting offered much better money and contract durations than what we are prepared to offer. Wonder if he had Elliott or Mihocek in mind?

They've got to kick goals somewhere to retain their dwindling fan base. On field is looking tough, so off-field goals it is. Including own goals (aka paying circa 4m to the two highest paid players in the league who aren't even the two best in the league)

Genuine question - what distinguishes him from Dean?
Athletic profile from what I’ve seen. Like Blanck though he’s got a deficiency that’s meant he can’t get past their regular back 7 which is his size (Blanck’s being as you said that he seems too defensively minded). I’d also be taking a look at Mitchell.
