BUT if they were the same age, I’d want Merrett. I think people underrate him. Should 100% be in consideration. Remember we are fighting with Geelong and Hawthorn over Butters.

I don't mind Ballarat at all. The whole goldifelds region actually. I also like seeing the Dogs play there, because most of the time we win

Told my other half I was keen on seeing Young/Butts in action next year, she gave me more than a Blanck look!
He is the opposite to what we need,
If he was 5 years younger aka Butters perfect 30 year old Merrett doesn't add much for us that we don't have short term
JUH is half Irish so that doesn't put the Irish in the good books
Merrett would be unreal for us and you’d give up two firsts IF we already had a gun full back on the list and our backs looked good.
Merrett would be that outside class along with Richards but we don’t have our backs sorted and that’s clearly the pressing need.

Outside class isn't our issue hence our high scoring
Defensive transition/pressure around the contest is hence Butters is perfect Zerrett is not

He's an excellent one on one defender. 7th in the comp for defensive one on ones. Exactly the type we should aim for.

He's come from the state leagues as a 24yo, looks to have the potential to be a ripper based on a short sample of form. But that doesn't mean there isn't anymore out there that have put together longer more consistent form lines.
I'd already contributed earlier in the thread with some suggestions in the state league for key defenders who deserve a look
