2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Even May, yeh hes 34 and a complete campaigner but they have 2 more years tops with some of their guys (especially Bont) at the very top end.

May would cost **** all and improve them outta sight.
Until he swings and connects with Darcy

I think any rule where the umpire has to determine “intent” is fundamentally wrong for the sport. That’s why they’re so bad at umpiring the sport, they’re going by intent and feel - instead of having real rules to follow
Disagree on this except in the case in question. Twas the umpires who campaigned to remove interpretation when the footy media scrutiny business began booming. Their platform was to simply call what they see instead of relying on interpretation which on the surface makes good sense. What happened though is that they started looking for reasons to blow their whistle as the media continued to focus on missed frees. The response was to add more umpires to catch the missed frees but they came into a regime that taught them to go looking for stuff including largely off the ball. In comparison with only the 1 umpire, he would only be watching the flow of play and would be tuned to see cases where the flow was interrupted, much like a bung note in a piece of music.
The league should have stuck fast and kept it to perhaps 2 umpires that had full interpretive control like most other sports. The shift has given rise to umpires calling things they only think they saw irrespective of its effect on play.
It all comes down to the abandonment of traditional ethos in favour of bed wetting corporate reactionaries who rightly wanted to eliminate the biff but lost control as the mission grew its own legs and walked us to the current state of affairs.

There's been some talk of why we're getting both Leek and JsoS, here it is, sorted. We sign JsoS on the first day of the free agency window, Friday October 3. The first day of the trade period is Monday October 6, which is when we offer JsoS to the dogs for their first round pick and Joel Freijah.

Is that actually possible in the laws of the game? Because if so, something like that happening in the future would be gold. And a team like the dogs, having missed out, would bite at the 2nd chance. Human nature to do so once you miss something you really realise you want it.

King?
Tauru?

They would be your A grade blue chips.
I think we have to understand Max King is 25 not 18with potential. My point being under 22 up and comers.
His best was supposed to be last year, and he really is a hope a see.
If we are pinning our hopes on Max being our saviour then we might as well go back to Allison.
We need to move past him and if he comes good that’s great but his injuries are mounting and he plays ion a collision prone position.
Tauru yes maybe ,but at193 3rd tall

Yep
And ruckman like Stanley will be the biggest winners of the 'last touch' rule.
Why?

There will still be plenty of throw ins and contested ruckwork and Swann estimated that there would only be 2 more free kicks per game (from not throwing the ball in).

Athletic and can play long minutes around the field at the expense of tapping craft like Ryder and Goldstein.

The rolling scrum of AFL games today is going to mean that there will still be plenty of around the ground contested ruckwork as well.

The centre bounce ruck rule is going to change to favour jumping ruckman, but that is only for the CB. So leaping will just be an advantage at the CB.

But yes for AFL today AFL rucks need to be able to run, and also win their own ball and to be a marking target. Just being able to win the tap is not enough.

Hope we can develop a few good NGA's during the Tassie top-heavy drafts.
Might of shot ourselves in the foot if they are too good though.

If the Dogs want Wilkie, they'd have to give up one of their top 5 players and a first to get a deal done.

No way it happens otherwise...and even then. We may still not be interested in parting with him.
I’d argue they only have 2 players who would be worth trading Wilkie for and neither is gonna happen. Darcy or Bont.

This whole thing is just a waste of time.

phantom13 I'm kinda missing the “restraint of trade” garbage that we had thrown at us.

Maybe Wilkie should request a trade so that Ross and SOS can say no unless we get Richards or Darcy

That would be a proper melt from the pug board 😂

When did we do it?

Plenty. Not the Dogs but we are going around offering obscene money to players who are still under contract. More would be going on behind the scenes too.

Ask them what they expect for FA compo,if they expected him to be delisted

My brother in law ranted about how he was average and inconsistent, then in the next breath he's wanting band 1 compensation. Told me that SOS ruined them and how he's going to ruin us too. He's as stable as I am about footy.

Max king is arguably the most important player on this list.

Not only does he need to be fit. He needs to be performing for us to have any hope

I'd agree with you, it is. But it's being reported - and will continue to be.

I don't feel we should increase his salary either. His contract will be higher in 2 years time, no need to jump the gun.

This is absolutely true. Now that it's clear the expectation for 2026 is finals (at a minimum) - King has become not only the biggest question mark over our side but the biggest factor in our success.

Scary, but exciting!

I did an exercise the other week, where I looked at their post game votes after each game.

There was ALOT of love for TDK and JSOS.

They are offended to lose them and to specifically lose them to us as they see us as the inferior club - who they hate.

Tbf I rate Freijah. But I’d want a FRP to accompany him.

But you are right with your last point. They won’t give to get. Because to do that would weaken them

He had a patch where people were calling him mini Bont. I'd still want more than a promising young player.
