Why is the Adelaide Footy club the way it is? why do things never change? why since 2005 have things continue to repeat?

We are very predictable .. just like 2005/06, 2012, 2016/17 and now 2024... choked/$hit the bed... has to be culture, the fabric of the club.. mental weakness? i dont know but last week was so predictable.

Finishing top and now probably going out in straight sets. i cop it all the time for being a negative fan but i have every right to be. The Adelaide footy club continue to let their fans down. Those wins against Bris, Hawks and coll in round 23 started giving me hope and thinking that we might just be turning the corner. Then in typical crows luck the Rankine saga hit and completely derailed our season.. just as the Roo suspension did in 05 and just as the parvo virus, Henthcel knee injury etc did in 2006.. classic.

its just so hard to get ourselves in positions like we did this year and we have pretty much wasted it. Yes, we are young and had next to no finals experience, but we should not have lost to Collingwood last weekend.

Only positive i can take out of it is that Brisbane lions went out in straight sets in 2019 and 2021 and after 4 campaigns they finally made a GF and after 5 they won a flag and with our young guns i think we can be there abouts.. I hope.

We are still 1 or 2 Agrade mids short.. i would be going hammer and tongs after Zach Merrett this trade period.
Dreading Friday night and a likely straight sets exit. The choker tag will stick for as while....

It’s honestly just life and life isn’t fair to anyone. If it’s possible to enjoy a win and not let a loss affect you, then that’s probably a good place to be as a supporter.

You think you do a deal with the devil to let Shane Ellen kick 5 goals in a grand final and you don't need to pay the accompanying price of a century of torture?
My old man is adamant John Reid did a deal with the devil for 97/98
And we wont win a flag until he is dead

When was the last time a club with an AFL-commission endorsed board won a premiership?

I’ll tell you. It was Sydney in 2012.

Guess what? That and 2005 are the only two times it’s ever happened.

When Port and the Crows won theirs, they were owned by the SANFL.

Likewise, West Coast is owned by the WA Football Commission.

Every other AFL premiership has been won by a club with a member-elected board.

I don't think it really makes a difference at all, the AFL has absolutely zero sway in the way that the Port or Adelaide are run outside of rubber stamping elected board members.

They have financially underwritten the license agreements for Adelaide and Port and hold the licenses in the interim to protect their interests financially.

From what I am aware once the payments have been made to the SANFL both Adelaide and Port will become member owned clubs.

Not let a loss affect me? hah i wish. Since the age of 8 in 1991 this club has dictated my weekend moods/Monday morning moods.
I think we peaked in the Showdown and then had a lot of things go our way to win games from the Hawthorn game through to the North game. We were cruising, talk of lids being off, great vibe and the feeling of our luck changing and then thanks to Izak things turned to crapola. Anyway, out of our control. Im not the only one desperate to see us win another flag. Guess we just have to keep on waiting

Our current players who will still be in their prime in 5 years

Soligo 22
Curtin 20
Worrell 24
Keane 25
Thilthorpe 23
Murray 24
Michalanney 21
Fogarty 26 (almost)
Taylor 22
Pedlar 23
Rankine 25
Rachele 22
Berry 23
Peatling 25

Not saying all these guys will be on the list but its at least likely.

Keays, Dawson, Milera, Cumming, OBrien and ANB will be almost done.

Walker, Laird and Smith will be gone.

The club is in good shape to keep challenging over the next few years, even if we get knocked out in straight sets this year we will be fine as a club.

*There is plenty of time to keep developing and improving as a group
*We aren't wasting any generational talent.
*Draft picks are in tact.
*Finding and Developing mids is much easier than KPPs, which is our main issue.

Its going to okay, mashing the panic button is the worst thing to do right now :)

It’s not going to be why we win or lose on Friday night, but over the journey, over the course of years and years, of course it makes a massive difference having board members who are actually accountable.

They shape the entire direction of the club.

Yep, I would say that we are still a boys club, not a professional club.

Potentially

However I've seen the past trends with AFC member voting and how easily they're wooed by former players or D grade celebrities that it doesn't really fill me with confidence that we'll elect anyone more competent.

I'd half expect our supporter base to fill up the board with people like Keith Conlan, Cossi, Lleyton Hewitt etc

If finding and developing mids is so easy why have we not had a quality midfield for the last 15 years?

Keith and Cossi would be pretty fun tho

Get Fitzy in there too.

Is Albert Ben Simon still alive? And that Haggle Co guy.

This will work.
