2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even at our club's lowest points, we didn't ever have our captain / mvp demanding to leave and not attending his own club's best and fairest, where he was guaranteed to be the winner. Lol
Those campaigners have some hide talking disparagingly about culture of our club: theirs is rotten to the absolute core. At this stage, sending them off to Tasmania would seem like a mercy kill.
If he doesn’t attend the B&F it’s hard to see how he can return to the club. Good luck selling that to your members.

Well if we are keen on CMAC here is our big chance
Pick 7 for him ( which is about pick 12) in a weak draft for a mid with 3 years development.
7 and 8 to Injectors from the wees and poos.
Injectors at least 4 in the top ten ( maybe 5 with Draper compo) Family Planning club with Merrett, Saints with CMAC
I’d rather trade the first we get for Ro, and trade a future first for Flanders.
I’m keen to take pick 7 to the draft

As the Prez said - “If we are going to die, we are going to die with our boots on and not be scared to have a go. This is what we are about as a football club.”

Just Do It!!!
Yeah but you don’t want to die looking down the barrel of a gun pulling the trigger to try and release the blockage so you can shoot at the target. Sure, have the boots on, just don’t engage in guaranteed insanity.

Eagles - neck deep in an exhausting rebuild, rookie coach, admin just applied for assistance, captain bailing for premiership some green shoots with draftees

Richmond - gutted their top end, drafted well but no guarantees or pressure after most recent dynasty

North - lucky to survive, starved of success, LM decisions very questionable, the most decorated coach made an MH breakdown related to past behaviour towards 1st nations employees, rebuild seems endless even with decent draftees coming through

Essendon - captain and mvp draper want out, captain thinking of not showing up to pick up his worthless b&f medal, a couple of years ago went through the shame of that president suing them for unlawful dismissal iirc, the stain of the drug stuff remains, blew their cap on McKay and Gresham, sooooo shit onfield about to head into rebuild while Tassie comes in

Melbourne - Sacked coach, got their mvp wandering dazed around the battlefield with ptsd, can't even get rid of Oliver, delisted a player at the b&f, wasted a great list, still haven't addressed forward line issues, still about a year away from start of rebuild (denial period currently)

Port - wasted an entire season saying goodbye to Kenny, kept trying to steal best players on other lists but ran out of trading capital, Butters wants out

Carlton - hemorrhaging players, kept their spud coach, ostracised a 3 gen club family whobis now helping their enemies, rebuild during Tassie intro

Sydney - ehhh they'll be OK i guess

Western - jamarah is wild, grest list but no defenders, flailing pathetically trying to grab JSOS and Wilkie, coach is not bad enough to get sacked but not good enough to get them competing in September

St Kilda- convinced best player in league to stay, got two gun FA players before trade period has even started, in talks for a regular marquee game with pies, reintroduced standalone vfl side, admin is strong and stable, no assistance package requested, paying off debt, wilkie staying Windy staying, Aleer and Ryan nominating, possibly Flanders and Mackenzie -

Now to attack the top 8!

It's pie in the sky, but if JUH was offered with a substantial amount of salary paid for a future 1st (in one of the upcoming, heavily compromised drafts), you'd have to think about it wouldn't you?
Not for a second. ( minute, not rounder)

If we can get it together next year, have a half decent recent run with injuries, have some young guys take a step (or two) up there’s no reason why we can’t rise quite rapidly. I feel there’s a real window of opportunity at the moment. We’re on the rise just as a bunch of other clubs are going down the toilet.

Mods delete this post if needed, JUH has a stronger chance of being in a court room than on an AFL list next season.

We had a private investigator looking into him last year period. It’s only gotten worse this year
“We” - as in the club?

No. Not this.
We’ve taken some calculated risks.
This one would be sheer stupidity.

You’re taking the piss here surely? If he’s playing anywhere next year (and that’s a massive ****ing if) hell be on $80k not $800k
Whatever happens we must not lose Marshall , he has been the backbone of the team for years - TGK does a ACL and then what happens.
Marshall can also be used in multiple areas as well - not just as a ruckman.

I rate him as one of a handful of leaders we have.
Vastly respected by team mates

I can’t believe people are actually legitimately discussing JUH.

Even if you gave absolutely no air to the disharmony rumours moving Roma and possibly Steele on to turn around and get JUH (even if it’s on rookie wages) would be a straight bullet to any culture we’re trying to build.
If we are still discussing JUH tomorrow, then I'm going to shut down the Saints board for the weekend

You wanna keep Roma, potentially against his will, at $600-$800k as a backup for a $1.7m a year guy we brought in over the top of him.

Don’t agree at all

If Brad Hill could convince JUH to come to the Saints and keep on the straight and narrow, and we got him for free, I'd do it. If he came and we won a premiership with him, I think we'd also have to build Hilly a statue out the front of Morabbin
Brad Hill isn’t some messiah who can absolve Jamarra of all his issues, nor is it his responsibility to do so. At some stage Jamarra has to help Jamarra and decide if he actually wants to be an AFL footballer. Wouldn’t be going remotely near it, but that’s just my thoughts

Marshall is contracted on top of that who's to say TDK is better than him.
Both of them can fill multiple roles from CHB / CHF and ruck and resting forward - to lose Marshall who has been one of our best players for years now will show no respect for our stars who could of walked on his last contract.
I'd rather Marshall as a forward than Hammer or whoever they been slotting in there lately.

If he wants out well and good - but to lose him will make us weaker.

So from all the posting it looks like it will be down to us possiby losing Marshall to get Flanders or McKenzie. Rowan will be 30 this year but remember he started late and has shown no signs of aging so could perhaps play for another 5 years. If he does stay with us he will be spending more time rucking, which should also help extend his career.

If we are going to keep our pick #7 at the draft surely we would be looking at a young midielder, does that lesson the need to trade in another mid.

Personally if we do intend to take another mid at the draft, I would prefer to keep Marshall.
From a 2027-2030 standpoint l think trading Marshall is reasonably sound if the value is there. I'd prefer he stays because he's heart and soul but if he wanted to go to the Cats and we can turn it to advantage then let him go with the very best wishes.

Its the old story "you lay down with dogs you get fleas"!

The fact that his direct involvement hasnt been reported doesnt mean he is not up to his ears in shyte. He is no different to Didak etc mixing with bikies and dealers nothing good comes of that. The only reason you would entertain taking him on would be if he agreed to a curfew and no contact clauses in his contract.
My history teacher told me that once , he was referring to the girl I was sitting next to.

Would have lost his job these days .

It’s called clearing his salary and receiving a draft pick in return

Get him for cheap well and good - Lyon will sort the guy out and if he can't he will be finished / but I would not give to much to him.
And really do we really need him with Marshall and King in the forwardline
Very good chance Marshall isn't here next year, and as much as I believe King will be very good for us next year, as cannot rely on him as our only key forward
