"im not interested in Hustwaite, we have enough butchers of the ball so dont want Weddle"
There sure is, as each week goes by and teams get knocked out, more players are are requesting trades, ApparentlyYou might not be interested in HH, reports say the bombers are… But who knows for sure, so many rumours fly around at this time of the year aye.
Contracted, captain, Brownlow medal candidate. We have to be talking biggest deal of all time territory because I can’t think of a direct comparison.Nah there's never been a deal anywhere near that for a 30+ year old.
You're saying MORE than two EARLY firsts PLUS a player?
Nah - would be by far the biggest deal of all time for someone aged 28+ and I can't see that happening.

I wouldn't pay that for a player that old. You pay that and maybe get 2 years really good form. We know most midfielders drop off around that age. So in my eyes and if I was the person in charge of trading, I would go for another younger player for 2 draft picks.if we want to go down the draft value index points way;
preface this by saying Hawks look likely to contend as part of finals for next little while. Means we're starting at likely pick pick 11
so we're likely getting
pick 11 = 1,205 points
pick 11 = 1,205 points
Carlton's pick 8 = 1,443 points
Now is Zac Merret worth pick 1 + pick 17 worth of picks? Id say that is fair enough. Ive been told enough Hawks back themselves in to get the job down. Get this job done. Unless Ward, McDonald or McKenzie are coming, im not really interested in Hustwaite, we have enough butchers of the ball so dont want Weddle.
Merret is cut from the same cloth as Scott Pendlebury. Can see a world where Zac plays 100 games at whatever club he ends up atI wouldn't pay that for a player that old. This is a horrible take. He’s Essendons only player and regularly puts up 30+ highly effective touchesMerrett is somewhere 15th to 20th in the midfield. Bont is top 3.
That’s my point. This is who they are, so I can see them not backing downYou mean they will cut their nose off to spite their face…. Yeah that’s worked so well for them so far…. It’s why their in this mess!

Youre paying for the finished product. Even moreso if Essendon stand their ground.
Why what use does he have for a wooden spoon?Would be sad if he didn't win one playing for Hawthorn, and Essendon won one instead.

3x first round picks with the knowledge Hawthorn will be contending for the next few years
Pick 8 + 2026 first + 2027 first
I would somewhat be ok with that. Tassie or not, we'd be holding extra first round picks. A death ride would be fun too.
in all seriousness, a third party will need to get involved. I think pick 8 + a 2026 first + a best 22 would be sufficient. Even if said player was around the 16 - 22 on the list
Yeh this what you're getting if you trade in Merrett - about 100 games.Merret is cut from the same cloth as Scott Pendlebury. Can see a world where Zac plays 100 games at whatever club he ends up at
I've actually had a bit of a think about it. I'd do it if I needed that one last piece to try grab a premiership. But not if the club just started a rebuild.Merret is cut from the same cloth as Scott Pendlebury. Can see a world where Zac plays 100 games at whatever club he ends up at
Well, West Coast need Quality players and since age is no problem im sure the Dons will pick up the phone if you have pick 1 as a starter!Brownlow caliber player. Age obviously not on his side but he’s easily worth 2 early firsts and a pick swap or player.
you cant pick and choose arguments that suit youContracted pushes his price up
Captain is irrelevant - we aren't bringing him in to be captain
Brownlow medal candidate wtf are you talking about? he had 15 players in front of him last year and played worse this year - he's nowhere near a bronwlow contender. The year before when he was AA there were 18 players ahead of him. Brownlow contender is a nonsense comment.
Yeah I mean he just missed last years brownlow by 9 bog’s, he must’ve been nervous. And finished equal 20th in his AA year in 2023. Let’s be serious, he’s not competing for a brownlow, the talk of 2 firsts plus is pretty ludicrous for a 30 year old. If he was 25 then yeah, but not 30.Contracted, captain, Brownlow medal candidate. The top two are Essendons bargaining chips. They’re not handing over a contracted captain for peanuts.Contracted pushes his price up

I’d hand over pick 1 for Merrett in a heartbeat if our list was at that stage.Well, West Coast need Quality players and since age is no problem im sure the Dons will pick up the phone if you have pick 1 as a starter!
The CEO publcly said "“Emotions are really high, my emotions are high, don’t get me wrong. If I was to make an emotional decision I’d just say, ‘No way Zach can be the captain of the club’"you cant pick and choose arguments that suit you
He is contracted,
Essendon are losing their captain, couldnt care less what someone else does with him
Brownlow form shows, in good teams he regularly polls well.
That’s my point. This is who they are, so I can see them not backing down
Losing Zac means we are losing our captain which should absolutely hold weight in any trade negotiations. The CEO publcly said "“Emotions are really high, my emotions are high, don’t get me wrong. If I was to make an emotional decision I’d just say, ‘No way Zach can be the captain of the club’"
I don't think I'm just 'picking and choosing' arguments to suit me if I say his captaincy doesn't hold much weight in this negotiation. I'm looking at what club leaders are saying. You can't just ignore that to try and say his captaincy pushes his price up.
And the brownlow conteder comment is total nonsense. He's never been top 5 in the Brownlow and on quick scan he's been top 10 once in the last decade. (9th in 2022).
Given he's already 30 the brownlow talk is total nonsense.
