2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

.....Hall. How could you not know how effective he was late in the year? ..
..yep, I know. I loved him and I think he has been one of the best things that happened to St Kilda this year. What I didn't know, was that he was an elite disposer, kicker etc.

F. Me, this is Marcus Windhager thread on the demonland site is so delusional it's painful to read. There are just too many to quote, but one that caught my eye is one poster thinking they have a chance in hell to grab Darcy Wilson from us, stating that he's gone down in Ross's estimation, based on... being dropped, I guess?

If you've got about half an hour and you need a laugh, head over and smile

Just had a dogs mate msg me.

Said he read from some dogs insiders that saints are looking at JUH

He seemed serious.

Surely not.

Our little ounce of hope is gone :(

Embedded in this ESPN article about the Brownlow is a funny video from Dons nuffie and one-time journalist now internet cloud shouter Rohan Connolly telling us all how Zach Merrett will definitely stay as he knows the effect it will have on Essendon should he depart. Hate to break it to ya Rolly but Zach ain't Nas; he is Outta There!

Talking of embedded ESPN videos, this one is worth a chuckle, it's a bunch of dudes reacting to Nas resigning, trying to get in on the act. Who are they? Not quite sure but the silent bloke on the left tippy tapping away at his laptop looks like he's been to Gerard Wheatley's health spa. That hair"style" hasn't been seen since the days of George and Mildred, not sure if he has to keep it for a bet. Looks like a greek version of Steve Buschemi Screen Shot 2025-09-14 at 13.34.22.png

That is why Hall is why he was so effective.

There is a difference between an elite ball user and and elite kick.

The former may be both. The latter may not be.

The former is all about deciding where the ball needs to go and then executing it so the delivery advantages the receiver.

Hall is an elite ball user as his judgement is so good.

We have a number of players in our team who tend to just kick to a team mate, rather than it kick it so the receiver is advantaged.

JUH seems like a flog or at least hangs around em but shieet if we could rearrange his deal and get the Dogs to chip in considerable $$ so they can get him off their books I wouldn’t be again at it.

We’ve got a strong indigenous group led by veterans like Hill and hopefully Ryan, feel if a Melbourne based club can get the best out of Jamarra we’re as good a chance as any. The prospect of a fit King/JUH combo has me thinking it’s worth rolling the dice.

Interesting that he follows a number of Saints and has trained with Hill recently, most likely nothing but maybe it’s already in the works.

just shouting into the void that we don't need Merrett, mostly because he's always been overrated and there's no need for us to be the villain when the media turns on him for leaving essendon.

they're a shite team, and just because he's the best of a pile of garbage doesn't mean he isn't a shite with a hugely inflated head too. they're not good and they deserve their century of humiliation. he's overrated and an arrogant campaigner. fucque em

If Merrett is off to the Hawks then Mackenzie seems like a pretty straight forward acquisition for us. He'll want a move to a club where he has a better chance of cracking the senior side. Maybe we trade Geelong's 1st (which we get for Marshall) for Mackenzie. Or potentially trade pick 7 for Mackenzie and a 2nd.

The ordinary year from Flanders plus talk of a bad back makes me hesitant. Could potentially be just like Windy's bad back though...

If JUH did actually train with Hill and that was the first time. It has to mean we are looking at him. Hilly is the leader of our young indigenous players, I couldn't think of a better person that Ross would trust to assess the situation before considering it further. Players at Geelong met with Oliver and Smith to do the same thing.

I would be annoyed if the club didn't explore that avenue. JUH has the assets to be a generational talent if he can pull it together. As you mentioned our strong ingenious group, auntie Catrina and Ross could be the positive role models he needs to get back on track. I think that is a very solid foundation of support right there.

It seems our culture off field is very different from the dogs. It be a major catalysis in fixing his mindset and attuite toward football and life. It is obvious the relationship between himself and his work place (the dogs got to a point it was never going to work). He has chosen to handle the stress of the situation the wrong way. With that stress gone, you start making better choices.

If the club believes it can support Jamara and get the best out of him. I am all for it!

Higgins Keeler Ryan

Juh King Tauru

(Owens, Hall and Sharman)

Is a really strong and exiting forward line. All of them can mark, are agile and good below their knees

I still don’t think Mackenzie is leaving - as much as I hope he does

My guess is that Worpel leaving has convinced him that he’ll be given an opportunity despite Merrett and Day

Hopefully things change if a formal Merrett request is made
