One thing this week has shown me is that we are lucky to have Moore as captain. Even if Moore wanted out at some point I can't imagine him doing a Merrett or Simpkin. I also cannot believe the difference in scrutiny from the media when it comes to Fly (Silvagni) and Mitchell (Merrett). It's like the media accepts that Mitchell is a pr I ck (being kind) so don't say much.

so Checkers leaves......McStay or Cox takes number 1 key forward with Buller as second tall and West as third tall? If Checkers wants to leave what would we expect in return? If it's Melbourne and say Checkers and Reef, what would be the balancing item required to get Trac in the scenario where we take on all of tracs contract.

Or could the club be really bold and have Buller and West as the main 2 tall forwards?

Does Blake Howes get retained?

I thought we’d be chasing Flanders

I think Melbourne are linked with him, I am sure it was mentioned on the radio that when Stephen King was involved at the Suns (care taker coach?) he was the one that changed the position of Flanders and got the best out of him.

Do you mean Noah Howes?

Are we going to head back to Ireland to try and unearth some AFL calibre players?

While I'm not suggesting their presence is the reason why their side had the season they did, I do suggest it's probably not a coincidence that Geelong, Hawthorn and Brisbane have all found benefit out of the Irish experiment in recent seasons.

We developed Cox into a Premiership player and Keane started his journey with us but you feel we could still make more out of the allowances available for the addition of a category B rookie.

Personally I'd hope the next time a young Irish Gaelic star is looking to switch codes we're at the front of the queue and don't allow our opposition a free swing at a free swing.

Id say it probably is a coincidence- have to add in Carlton as well

Yeah, but that's Carlton. Everything they touch turns into a pile of poo the size of Mount Everest.

Recent? Hawthorn have Nash who debuted 18 months before we brought Keane and Tohill out and I can’t even name a Brisbane one (Joyce and McKenna were brought out by St Kilda and Essendon).

I suspect we stopped bringing them out because they can’t be cat B rookies any longer? I’m open to going back to the well on the basis of the skill acquisition through kicking being easier than the yanks we’re currently looking at, but I don’t believe they’re the free hit they once were. My preference is we keep tracking the 3+ year deregistered guys like Parker and Condon.

With the growth of our academy plus other local cat b options, we might be able to fill cat b well without Ireland.

If Mihocek leaves does Cox get a new 1 year contract?
I think they are seperate topics. Suspect Cox will get an extension anyway even as depth with Steene and Smit NQR yet. Plus I believe some proposed change to ruck rules might work in his favour although I’m not following the specifics of that.

Bizarre if Cats end up getting Worpel, Curnow & Marshall this trade, there is something fundamentally wrong with the system if you add in NGA to the mix as well!!! So comprised.

The system or......

Geelong faced an AFL investigation in early 2025 regarding discrepancies in their third-party player payments, with reports suggesting they expected sanctions, likely in the form of five-figure fines, due to "discrepancies" in their salary cap compliance.

If Geelong get all 3 of those mentioned, then there's something seriously not right at GMHBA Stadium....

They'd actually not have many on big money. Going by reports, Smith's contract wasn't huge. Holmes's contract wouldn't be huge yet. Paddy and Cameron as veterans would no longer be on the massive contracts they used to be on. I don't think it's surprising at all that they've got salary cap space.

That’s what they put on the books yet that’s why they are being investigated for salary cap cheating

Have a look at their team - it wouldn't be that expensive. Brissy having the space to go so hard at FA is much more surprising to me. Or us having added Houston and Perryman and then chasing Rowell so hard.

I disagree. I think it's that Jamie is a star of the comp and Brodie is a battling workhorse who many think is struggling.
Yes Jamie is a star and therefore it’s a big ask for some one to play the “Elliot Role”.
Your earlier reference to Shooter playing that role is really just an incomplete solution.
If we had a True replacement, I’d be fine with Jamie going to GCS.
Just as I am with West in the wings if Brodie left.

We definitely do need some midfield recruits. Lacking depth in that area

I don't think we lack depth in the midfield. It just looks that way because there's none out of the team, but we have really strong midfield depth already in the team - Sidey, Crisp, Perryman, Josh and we have a bit of depth for their roles. We're old and will need to bring in replacements soon, but guys like Flanders who want an immediate midfield role or fringe players who want to move for extra opportunity are unlikely to choose us. So midfield recruits are likely to be kids or topliners.
