Curnow doesn't want to finish his career in a shit side. It's that simple. Our history, how we have been trending the last couple of seasons and with some profile players already out the door and some other profile players going past their prime years. He has every right to feel this way. He would be worried that he is going to finish his career the way it started, in a rebuilding cellar dweller. I'd leave too if that was the case.

In my opinion, it's fair enough he asks to be traded. He probably believes he could be stuck at Carlton and achieve nothing or go elsewhere and get himself a premiership.

It's actually up to the club to prove itself and convince players that it will be a premiership contender soon.

A year or two outside the 8 won't hurt but is not ideal but we have to be accumulating talent.

The better sides don't bottom out and if they do it's short. The better sides use free agency to their benefit, manage their list and cap well and they stay in it over the decades as to attract top end talent and when they need them they get them. We have the capabilities to get back into finals if we recruit the right players this off season.

If we do that and start trending upwards and playing finals again then players like Curnow are going to want to stay here and push for a flag with us, but if we aren't good enough and can't do this then they are going to want to go.

If we want Curnow to change his mind then the football club needs to earn that.
Bunkum! We have or will have the makings of a top side. Curnow has been a big investment and needs to play his part. It is a team game, no arm up and kick it to me BS.

He is a massive part of the problem, when he could be a driver for success…

Would we be happy with

Humphrey + 2025 First Rounder + 2026 First Rounder?

with Gold Coast, I would go with Humphrey + 2025 First Rounder (top 10) + Flanders with a pick going the other way.

with Swans, I would go with Gulden (no one else) + 2025 First Rounder (top 10) with a pick going the other way

He's also missed large chunks of his career and had God knows how many surgeries on one knee, then had an Ankle injury that disrupted his 2024 and ultimately required surgery, then had more surgery in the 2025 off-season on that troubled knee.

He's had 2 fit seasons in the last 6 and, is 29 next season. The thing is, though, in those 2 seasons he won 2x Colemans, so the ceiling is as high as anyone in the league. But a 29-yr old with 2 fully fit seasons since they were 23 isn't exactly great.

I'm not someone saying we give him away for some future picks and a couple of B graders, but I can also completely see why no club has been exactly falling over themselves to satisfy us with a trade. Charlie is a blue-chip talent, but with a neon warning sign. That's not an easy deal to make for any party and is buyer beware to a point.

Lots of hubris is out there about how we should handle this (force him to stay and play him a full back in the VFL to fix his attitude, lol), but even from our perspective we should be considering what value we can get from a highly injury prone late 20s key forward. If he stays, he's a gamble to actually be regularly fit and getting the best out of himself, based off his history. Are we better off trying to get the best value for him now while he still has a premium? If he has another year or 2 disrupted pre-season surgery or another in-season lingering niggle, his value will be nowhere near where it is now.
Sure. Also, **** these guys who think they can bend us over a barrel after we've done the right thing by Charlie all this time.

I’d say that no one knows what’s actually happening which is a good sign.
It’s also possible nothing is happening Benaly, Charlie is staying and there’s nothing to report which is also a good sign.

Probably the most pressing and urgent issue facing the club are the seating arrangements for the best and fairest on 5 October… :D

Charlie doesn't like thought of a diminished pay check.

Now that the front loading stops a d he's on a much more club friendly contract.

He was fine when we front loaded and he got more than his contract stated.

Why else do you think so many club stalwarts want to move clubs all of a sudden?

Could be something to it.

Dimma came out and said they'd like Charlie, but Walter and Read are off the table. I wonder whether he'd be as definitive if Humphrey's name started circulating in the media...

Love Humphrey, he's a jet, but I'd be a little wary of going into next year with Harry then HOK, Young and Reidy as genuine KPF size options. Kemp will come back, Khamis might play forward, Moir can play a little taller than his listed height, but Harry is literally the only KPF there that any oppo defender is going to need to respect.

Wonder if the club would consider pulling the trigger on a genuine change in role for Cripps. If the midfield group became Hewett, Cerra, Walsh, Humphrey and Jagga, we look a lot more dynamic in there. Crippa could train with the forwards to play out of the square, spend 60% TOG up forward, and then rotate through for 5 mins bursts on ball here and there to spell Hewett and/or Cerra.
Maybe that's the thought process for trading out our 1st, for some KPF not saying a gun, but extra depth or a b-grader, or a more promising player. We have many levers to pull

I would straight-swap Curnow and Humphrey.
He is everything we are not right now.
I wouldn’t.

Humphrey might be a very good young player, but he’s not worth Charlie Curnow on his own, on account that he will no longer be coached by Dimma and has the potential to go backwards under a lesser head coach. So I would at least want to add a first round pick or (preferably) two to the trade.
