Charlie if he adjusts his attitude on moving to the GC, then it makes the GC premiership contenders next year of they also manage to get Trac and Elliott this year. This is the type of deal that will have to happen to make Carlton trade Charlie. Considering that next year, GC will be in the 15-18 range pick. It'll happen.

They’re not getting Petracca or Elliott if they blow every draft asset on Curnow. Pick will be 15-18 regardless, they’re on the up.

In previous years I would have been concerned re: potential trade return for Charlie.

I genuinely can’t see GW signing off on something that isn’t a ‘win’ for us. It may not be a win in everyone’s eyes as we are always likely to overvalue our players as supporters.

I have no doubt he wants to put his stamp on the place and letting Charlie go for under market value when contracted, with multiple interested parties, is just not likely to happen. IMO of course.

Three years ago Charlie and his manager were ecstatic to have his contract extended by 6 years to the end of 2029, and why not.

He’d been out of the game for the best part of two seasons, multiple surgeries, problems with screws or whatever, and after 6 months into 2023 the club continues to have faith and back him in with a generous contract extension.

I respect you as a poster gb, but fmd “the club needs to earn the right to keep Curnow and change his mind”?

Sorry you’ve lost me here - it’s Charlie that needs to pull his finger out and repay Carlton for having faith in him, nursing him through several unproductive years on the sidelines, and offering him a six year extended contract.

He was also getting 800k in the years when he wasn't playing.

Curnow doesn't want to finish his career in a shit side. It's that simple. Our history, how we have been trending the last couple of seasons and with some profile players already out the door and some other profile players going past their prime years. He has every right to feel this way. He would be worried that he is going to finish his career the way it started, in a rebuilding cellar dweller. I'd leave too if that was the case.

In my opinion, it's fair enough he asks to be traded. He probably believes he could be stuck at Carlton and achieve nothing or go elsewhere and get himself a premiership.

It's actually up to the club to prove itself and convince players that it will be a premiership contender soon.

A year or two outside the 8 won't hurt but is not ideal but we have to be accumulating talent.

The better sides don't bottom out and if they do it's short. The better sides use free agency to their benefit, manage their list and cap well and they stay in it over the decades as to attract top end talent and when they need them they get them. We have the capabilities to get back into finals if we recruit the right players this off season.

If we do that and start trending upwards and playing finals again then players like Curnow are going to want to stay here and push for a flag with us, but if we aren't good enough and can't do this then they are going to want to go.

If we want Curnow to change his mind then the football club needs to earn that.
Call me old fashioned but there was a time when you might expect a player who has signed a long term contract to a team just who has played final 2 of the last 3 years, and who has been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars while for playin just 15 games in 4 years, might decide to take the hard option and work his ar$e off to ensure that club compete's for a premiership rather than try and force their way out to grab a premiership elsewhere

Is this all really about Curnow thinking he's too good for us or about him being on the receiving end of some 360⁰ feedback and not liking what he heard?

It is time, as has been said before, for Charlie to put on the big boys pants. Behaving like a 14 year old who has been given feedback he didn't like. I have many years of experience dealing with the immature 14,15 yo boy on and off the sporting field.

You feel like these clubs are leading Charlie to disappointment. They are trying to get Charlie for cheap so Charlie's manager is trying to make out that it's an untenable situation to go back to Carlton to try and force us to take what we can, knowing the situation that a trade is going to be very difficult.

I am hoping Carlton hold strong regardless of how Charlie feels, and we will see how badly these teams want him (my gut is that they don't - unfortunately).
What makes you think CFC wont hold strong?

I’d say wright is very unlikely to hand CC over with 4 years to go on his contract for peanuts.

Re your gut feel - been to Bali recently?

There’s zero chance we get Humphrey or Gulden. Adjust expectations accordingly.
Why is it that Carlton need to adjust expectations? Clubs have come for him and turned his head (as I can’t believe it’s simply Voss). The clubs who want him need to adjust first and when the deal is 95% done we will do our bit.

Enough pandering…our price or he stays.

His management need to earn their new commission.

I’m saying the posters here should adjust their expectations if they believe Humphrey or Gulden will be coming across.

I fully endorse the club asking for those types, but it just won’t happen, so Curnow stays.

Charlie Curnow wanting out and his management trying to get Carlton to take unders couldn’t have possibly happened at a better time for us. Graham Wright is in the picture now. You can be damn sure he won’t be strong armed.

Id take Humphrey, Flanders and a swap or 1st rounders this year.

Hopefully we get a few cannon fodder picks a bit later for dean.

Try and upgrade our first and Jsos pick to move higher up the draft before a Dean bid.

Can't see Flanders wanting to come WITH Humphrey. He wants more mid time, we already have to fit Jagga in, we'd be adding Humphrey...Flanders would be straight onto a flank or into a pocket.

Make it a three way trade and let Flanders secure us something from Melbourne instead (ie. Fritsch and change).

Probably going to happen that way and i don't care either way as long as we make a stand and are not stitched up by any club.
