I own all the Dawn of War games and expansions, have owned the original and expansions since their original pre-Steam disc releases (Sega later let you add them to Steam for free, which was pretty cool. I think it was around the same time they removed Games for Windows Live requirements from DoW2). Anyway, even though I've owned it since launch, I never really played much Soulstorm. I think I was all DoW'ed out when I first got it and kinda gave up.

Now with the Definitive Edition (and long service leave...) I ploughed through the DoW, Winter Assault and Dark Crusade campaigns, and am currently playing Soulstorm properly for the first time, and I am really enjoying it. It's considered the worst of the expansions, but unlike Dark Crusade where I just steamrolled my way through, I've actually lost a few battles in Soulstorm and it feels more difficult. Nothing matches the brutality of playing as Imperial Guard in Winter Assault in terms of slogging it out like an old-school WW1 battle (I usually play as Space Marines), but capturing a province only to lose it the very next turn after a massive Chaos counter-attack was awesome and humbling. Like the battle starts and I'm instantly rushed by tanks and shit, I had no chance and it become more of a war of attrition capturing territories back and forth from there until I wiped them out. Got two planets to go, I think the Sisters of Battle, Imperial Guard and Necrons are all that's left. The Necrons wiped out the Eldar without my interference.

Fallout 4. Haven't liked it like the others but made myself play it after completing 3 and NV recently.

Enjoying the combat bit of it. Doing the Automaton DLC which is not bad. Dialogue system is lazy and poop. Not done much of the main story which is where my playthroughs trail off.

Just finished a playthrough of Assassin's Creed Origins. Every time I play it I am reminded why I majorly prefer Odyssey.

I've now got Shadows downloading. With the Ubisoft sale and extra $25 off on top I figured I would treat myself for my Birthday.

Jump Space - Love when a game you had no hype for comes out of nowhere. Definitely one to play with a group of friends or at least one other. Had a ball tonight and already locked in to play again tomorrow with the crew. Already early on the countdown missions are fun and hectic. Just the general gameplay/flow of the game is mad fun too.

Automaton DLC is pretty good from memory

Raced through the rest of Soulstorm and it just ... ended with credits rolling. That's how i discovered there's been a bug since launch that none of the Soulstorm ending cutscenes are working in the Definitive Edition. Sigh. Had to look up the Space Marine ending on Youtube.

Not sure what to play next. One more week of leave (back at work on the 1st), so will probably just spend the week dreading that :straining:

Silksong. I spend 90% of the time walking around lost like a dickhead, no idea where to go (the game doesn't tell you shit).

Then after a while, I die, go back to a random bench and I'm completely lost again.

This is with maps too.

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

I saw your laughing at me reaction :( :p

I've done things like that for years..... I was doing game play videos before they were the in thing on youtube!!

I used to record my game play on the NES (Aussie Rules Footy, SMB, International Cricket)/Sega Mega Drive (Pete Sampras Tennis, Brian Lara Cricket etc) /Amiga 500 (Leisure Suit Larry lol, Test Drive etc etc) and watch them back on VHS.

In the 2000's I still recorded my game play occasionally. I recorded my game play of "The Simpsons Game" and turned it into one gigantic episode of the show. I also recorded myself doing Guitar Hero and..... hours upon hours of myself dying in COD 4 MW on Veteran!

I know it's meaningless watching the AI play itself, I find it fun. I used to do AI v AI matches in AFL Evolution 1 & 2...... then watch the recording and be surprised at who won.

Blast from the past name dropping International Cricket and Aussie Rules footy on the NES. As soon I see those names I have the music from cricket in my head and the sound of the bat hitting ball and then the iconic out of bounds on the full!

Brian Lara Cricket \ Shane Warne Cricket 96 was elite for its time, spent so many hours on that as a kid. It had the novelty touch of the waltzing Matilda song for Australia when you simmed and it was different for the other nations I believe.

Speaking of Shane Warne Cricket how good was then 99 on the PS. Boycott commentary, the beach ball cheat code, super sixes…

Nostalgia time with SWC - I loved it and it was very playable for most people, even my grand father had a go and loved it!!! The ground "sweep shot" was my favourite shot of the game, don't know why I was obsessed with that stroke in the late 90s (mid 2000's I grew to adore the hook/pull shot instead haha).

I loved BLC 95 and SWC '96. I disliked that once you reached the players "averages" the game got harder and it was easier to get out. Actually going further back (yet I only discovered it and played it around the same time as BLC / SWC in the mid 90's). Allan Border's Cricket (Graham Gooch in other markets) on pc was awesome (most of the same team from that series, went to BLC/SWC 95/96 and SWC 99.... and even a few were still around for Ricky Ponting Cricket 2005). Being able to do your own custom side was great.

International Cricket on NES was fun - I loved setting the field to cover every catching point and the diagonal on ground for run out opportunities. Thus the AI would only ever get caught out, bowled, lbw'd or run out thanka to the field settings + the chosen ball being bowled.

Likewise Aussie Rules Footy - could win the tap out and take the ball forward, scoring a goal every 11 - 13 seconds.

I basically recycle the same points whenever those games get brought up. People also wonder what enjoyment I get from games if I know the ins and outs too well (such as the field placements in International Cricket). I still get enjoyment by playing and beating the game(s).

Also when I used to post the screen shots of AFL 23 and gettting high scores but the AI either being stuck on 0 or scoring very little (1 point or 1 goal). I just enjoy the challenge.

Now really starting to find my groove with Silksong. Knowing where to go helps. Amazing little game.
unironically the game is easier if you don’t have any memory of playing the original hollow knight. both are fantastic games that tell compelling stories through the environment.

would avoid trying to 100% both though, it’s a trudge
