I reckon Curnow and Smith’s bromance hasn’t exactly helped things. No doubt Smith’s been in his ear about how good life is there… winning culture, a club that’s very good at “managing” off-field antics, sponsors falling over themselves paying big $$$, and those mystery land packages out in the sticks that somehow always get rezoned at just the right time.

You’ve got to admire how well they run things over there.

He will unless he wants to try and build his personal brand from the vfl
Will he care about his brand if he's locked in for 4 years at a club he cant get away from and is contracted to for the next 4 years? He would probably be happy to cruise in the VFL and Surf if he cant be released to another club.

I reiterate my personally stance.

IF he truly wants out, Charlie and his management can GAGF.

Go broker a deal that is well in our favour and we’ll consider. Otherwise be ready day one of pre season to earn your pay and work incredibly hard to drag us upward.

Simple as that.
People go to jobs they hate for 30k a year. He can suck it up.

Do you honestly believe that the playing group would accept that from him?
Do you honestly think they'll have any say? Have they so far?

He's done what he pleases and the club has continually rolled out the Red carpet and put him on a put on a pedestal at every opportunity. Literally every interview with other players they say "Charlie's Charlie, he's pretty chilled and does his own thing" or words to the effect.

Unless the club is prepared to trade him in 12 months, and he has turned in a stellar season, we need to capitalize on his worth now. Not wait for him to drop in value due to injury or under performing.

Also said he couldn’t see how Geelong could trade him in along with their interest in Marshall.

CC willing to take a clip on the pay to make it work (reportedly, though this is subject to the front-loaded pay scale, if he’s milked the best of our contract).
A clip from the front loaded portion or from what he's owed next season?

He is also very capable of coming out & kicking 60-70 goals in a season next year with a solid pre season free of injuries, cannot just keep looking at this one sided angle.

Absolutely- at the end of the day we shouldn’t be giving Charlie up for unders
Definitely not but giving him up for break-evens is actually a win because we'll get cap space and not have to worry about poor form from a top earner.

i was referring to Charlie next year if he is still with us.
Yeah ... sorry mate ... only used Chol as an example of a slacker who seems to get away with half arsed efforts quite often and is accepted by his team mates (& Coach)

I figure Charlie does similar and appears to also get away with it. Folks around here can see that Charlie is not doing a Dangerfield and throwing 100% into his game. I do wonder if Charlie is forced to stay and fulfill his contract whether he will be 100% committed to producing his best?

Spot on.

But I think some here will need to adjust their expectations on what is an acceptable deal. Gulden + Holmes + Walter + first rounders isn’t where this is going to end up.

I think it’ll be a 3-4 club deal where multiple players/picks are swapped somewhat muddying their values.

We end up with 2 very good first round picks, a best 22 player, and enough points for Dean. Tough to swallow but if Charlie has truely cracked the shits it’s a deal we have to do.
Nope, he can play vfl unless we get what’s overs as we cannot allow competition to get a star cheap because Charlie wants out.
