The AFL would be better off waiving the compo reduction with Starcevich than giving us a pick as it hurts all the other teams.

Yep, giving us a pick only serves to benefit Brisbane, not us or anyone else, considering they'd get nothing otherwise.
Use it to bundle up or trade it for a future pick. Not a great draft year to be getting this assistance.
Really makes no sense. Only issue I could possibly think of is the bad precedent it sets.
Creating a new pick that disadvantages 17 other teams (including us) instead of letting us just have the player for nothing.

15, 19* end of first priority, and pick 34* pick from Carlton for Chesser for pick 6* (Port pick) and Davies thanks.
Gives us 1, 2, 6* and our second rounder (any sliders, ideally Fred), Davies and Starc. Get it done.

If this happens, and hopefully it does... what does that do with the rest of our draft hand after our second rounder, does it suddenly come into play?
Pre Chesser/Ryan trades..
Picks 33 and 51 were probably going to be used on the NGA's/Banfield and now realistically we could add an additional player or two still on the board. Like big boy cody Curts for example, unless i'm missing something.
Shallow draft, maybe we'll end up trading them to nepo babies who need points to move up the order this year, or into next year's draft?
Another big clean out looms next year.

There’s two advantages to having the additional rookie list spots and being able to prelist the NGA players
Firstly, as you’ve highlighted, we don’t need to use/hold draft picks to match bids on our NGA players. That said, it’s debatable as to whether any of our NGAs would attract a bid earlier than R3 meaning we could match that bid using any pick provided we had a list spot available
Which leads to the second, more important advantage. Being able to prelist them onto an expanded Cat B list means we don’t have to use up a main list spot. Without this assistance we’d have a major dilemma/list squeeze
As it stands we will have picks 1 and 2 plus wherever our R2 and R4 picks lands along with the Hawthorn R1,2 and 3 picks. After other FA compo and assuming Hawthorn lose to Geelong that’ll be something like 1,2,18,23,37,55 and 77
Seven picks that marries up with the 7 list spots we’ll have available after Allen, Ryan and Chesser depart. Ryan and Chesser will also give us draft picks of an as yet unknown value to add to what we already have albeit possibly future picks
Without the ability to add our NGAs that would become a problem. With that draft hand you’d want to be bringing in at least 3, arguably 4, high end draft picks. We also need to add some experience so are looking at bringing in maybe 3 players via trade. So we’d have used up basically all our list spots without even looking at our NGA players or Banfield
Prelisting takes away that problem as we don’t need main list spots for them. It’s a significant lever for us and one that is likely to be underestimated by many as it’s of more value to us than a priority pick

Given so many list spaces, we'll be able to take more picks worth points into the draft. This may prove useful as we may 'hold' points picks for other teams who don't have enough list spots to take all their points picks and take them to the draft.
We then trade those picks to them for futures or a slightly 'better' draft pick.
That's not happening...
Have I lost count or are we already locked into 9 list changes? And that's without the possible extra rookie spots.

Nine out, but two of those spots go to McCarthy and Newton. So seven spots to fill
Though I'd think there's still probably some chance that Ryan doesn't end up leaving - contracted players asking to move and it not getting done is not new. I'd rate it about 15% chance that he's still an Eagle in '26.
Probably also a 2% chance that the AFL's magic sauce coughs up band 2 for Allen, not band 1 - which means he stays, or there's a whole new monster trade to be done. But Brisbane don't have much capital for that, so I reckon they'll just up the offer to make it band 1.

0% chance of it not being band 1, Brisbane know full well that our only salary cap problem is hitting the floor. If they want to get him it has to be band 1.
Yes, but the AFL decide the banding using a magic eight ball, so you never know what might pop out the end.
Brandon Starcevich is 26 - don't do what Saint's supporters did to Liam Ryan. Poor guy is going on 50 in that trade thread.
Brandon is the perfect age profile. WC dont pay Harley next year (and now Jeremy) which means we can front load the F*** out of a few contracts. It will be tough to get a bonafide midfield star, but I hope WC are chasing Jack Steele and Lachie Neale even if its a very long shot. Brandon makes WC instantly better which we really need

I am hoping we get priority access to our NGA talent this year and next. Watching McGlade and Kenh next year without the fear they will rise up the draft boards would be a little treat.

It makes alot of sense and Im almost certain its pretty much already set. It's exactly what a PP should be used for
I can think of three other BNE players who would improve the WCE list that could be packaged in. Dev would be my first preference
