Did we not have a first rounder that draft? We could’ve got Holmes.
Spot on - has the ability, but gets very nervous at AFL levelConfidence.
Ryan has always looked like a nervous nelly in the AFL (both defensively & offensively) but comfortable at VFL level. It's a trait that's often missed when discussing players and is one of the issues I have with Buss at the moment.
Neither, ‘Bikie’.Footy... or night?![]()

Max Holmes as a late first rounder was a great pick by Geelong.Pretty poor draft too Neale/McCreery/Lord the only decent mid round picks
Dom Bedendo at pick 55 with Josh Treacy at pick 7 in the rookie draft makes me cry though
Fans would have burned WO down if we passed on Marra.Max Holmes as a late first rounder was a great pick by Geelong.
The real what-if in that draft (if we had the chance to play our hand over again) is what if we'd said to Adelaide "OK if you think JUH is a #1 pick, he's yours." Thilthorpe goes somewhere else (probably North) and the whole rest of the draft changes.
Purely hypothetical now of course but fun to speculate how different things might be.

The real ‘what if?’ is if we’d been able to foist him on another team last year for a decent return
You only have to watch RG run in and spoil LJizz from taking an easy chest mark late in yesterday’s game to see his true limitations.Spot on - has the ability, but gets very nervous at AFL level
Adelaide would've still gone for the Adelaide born boy over JUH tbh. More likely that JUH ends up at North or somewhere else as Pick 2-5 range.Max Holmes as a late first rounder was a great pick by Geelong.

They wouldnt have been able to.Adelaide would've still gone for the Adelaide born boy over JUH tbh. More likely that JUH ends up at North or somewhere else as Pick 2-5 range.
Perhaps so, but don't defenders talk to each other? You only have to watch RG run in and spoil LJizz from taking an easy chest mark late in yesterday’s game to see his true limitations.
Continually jumps into contests and spoils teammates. No judgement.
I'd be shocked if anybody had forgotten that.Sounds like a few have forgotten that we were stoked to be able to pick up JUH, who was touted as a generational talent with comparisons to Buddy. I mean he probably still is, but the problem we have on our hands isn't about how good he is at football.
The club should be ashamed of themselves for not recognising this behaviour early and doing something about it. Why give him a big contract on the money if you had the slightest inkling he was like this?To think we gave up everything but the kitchen sink to get Jamarra and we are going to get sweet FA back is bitterly disappointing
He should be ashamed of himself for how he has shat on us
Someone will definitely make a dumb trade scenario but it’s only for clicks at the end of the day. It’s the worst time of the year but then in the sometime I have a great laugh
They should yes but he constantly makes the same mistake.Perhaps so, but don't defenders talk to each other?
Yeh. Unfortunately he's got a low footy IQ. Can't really fix that. They should yes but he constantly makes the same mistake.
Crashes the pack, knocks over teammates and fails to fully spoil the ball.
Tries his heart out but lacks finesse.
We could have rated Jamarra the 15th best prospect in the draft (not that we did) and economically speaking with the draft value points discount and bidding system, it still would have made sense to make the trades around Treloar and match the pick 1 that we eventually did, it shows you how much of a rort the old bidding system was.Max Holmes as a late first rounder was a great pick by Geelong.

I always say to myself I won’t even bother but at the end I will be one of those idiots that would be listening.
For anyone thinking we should draft Crossley, take a look at the replay of the VFL from yesterday. He was noticeably gassed in the last quarter and Smith got some very easy taps that he hadn’t earlier in the day, including for both of Billy Crofts goals. Crossley was enormous and helped get them back in it, but arguably also cost them through inability to compete for the entire day.
He is not fit enough for AFL, unfortunately, as he has a bit of campaigner in him and always provides a contest.
Well, I was trying not to fat shame but you’re spot on.Don't really need to see him play, you only need to look at him. He's a fat bastard.
