Every year umpires prove that they have a specific type of player in mind when giving out votes.

They always go with the explosive contested players and pay more attention to ball winning than ball use. This isn’t to say that guys like Rowell are poor users, just that it’s not their main strength.

If you can break a tackle with speed and release any kind of long kick or handball you’re basically born on third base with umpires.

Cripps, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Neale, Dusty. Even going back further with Swan and Judd.

Look at Cripps and Warner this year, both terrible by their standards and they poll around 20 each.

Biggest WTF in Brownlow history is Bont not having multiples because he can do it all. Breaks packs and is a better kick than all of the above.

If that's the case, they should have an option to watch the telecast with like Gorringe or Cornes, or a punting tragic bagging the crap out of the votes, rather than the sanitised, gun pointing at the hosts off camera that we currently get about "A stunning start to the night by Rowell."

I have no problem with him winning, I just can't stand the inflated vote tallies we get nowadays, which pretty much take all the excitement out of the count. Rowell just made the bench in the AA team. He probably won't win his club B&F. He wasn't top five in the AFLPA MVP. In fairness, he was third place in the AFLCA award, but eff me... that's not a 39 effing vote season.

To be fair, I rate the AFLCA the highest award you could win, much more than the AFLPA. He had a great year and it's not Woewodin levels medal. But you're right. This and Cripps 45 from last year should force some kind of system change.

Why do they keep showing Nicky in the crowd sulking? His time will come, but most pundits agree he didn't deserve it this year. I'm surprised he even got more than 20 votes - but he does get the 30% vote Daicos bonus.

No guarantees, sides will put more time into him. As the Pies decline he might not get the ride he has. Not to say he isn't a great player, but it's a team game, not all him.

NO midfielder out there gets tagged as heavily as nick does on a weekly basis . He still fights his way through that and performs at an elite level on a weekly basis, especially for someone of his age.

Nothing will change for nick in the coming years,even as the side changes around him.
