But who cares? It's literally an award based on the umpire's view of who was best on ground. Theoretically it's from people who shouldn't have a clear bias.

There's coaches awards, players awards, media awards, awards for heckin'g everything these days. It's not like the Brownlow is the only one and we are forced to accept that now Matt Rowell was the best performed player of the year.

It's an excuse for the league to make a bit of a song and dance and a celebration. People shouldn't care about who wins it nearly as much as they do.

Its what I say all the time on here. The Brownlow is an opinion award, judged by the umpires. The AFLMVP is an opinion award judged by the players and the AFLCA Coaches Award is an opinion award judged by the coaches.

All 3 awards are "Opinion Awards" as is the All Australians too - judged by the selectors in their opinion.

The only individual awards not based on opinion is the Coleman medal.

the AFL stepping in to give them Noah Anderson for free is a disgrace though. In the meantime stripping my dees of Mac Andrews. There's a few nepobaby teams in the afl. Gold Coast is def one of them. I love Rowell though.

We are know the Grand Finalists don't drink. There was no bad behaviour but not everyone enjoys drunks and kids watching think this is normal.
First off, you said, and I paraphrase here because I don't want to go back and quote you directly because it is not important, "every player was getting drunk", which you have conceded here that was not the case. So you were wrong on that count.

Next, if the players that were drinking were not engaging in bad behaviour, how do you know, or more specifically and pertinent to your ostensible concerns, how would the observing children know that they were "getting drunk"?

Nick Daicos averages 27.25 votes per season

Aaron Paul He Cant Keep Getting Away With This GIF by Breaking Bad
During the same time, Cripps averaging 28.75 votes per season. Always second for the little champ

Do you tell everyone at a wedding to stop drinking? Or at a birthday?

Probably not because people tend not to invite that miserable cousin who whinges about everything.
You don't have to drink at all especially will a million people watching. Other athletes aren't binge drinkers.

If a player is out of finals they have every right to go wild, it's off-season. Let them be loose.

Plus drunk players are funny, if Bailey Smith had won he should have done a line on the podium to celebrate.

Cmon you can see how much it means to Nicky.

He’ll just bust if he doesn’t have a Brownlow to hang in his pool room.
His only 22/23 has another 10 yrs to try win one, i know his a stat nerd so his likely more pissed off at the games where Rowell voted 3 and projected 0, which yeah if they didn’t happen, would have given him the medal

Because people have eyes.

Love how everyone tries to compare Will Ashcroft to Nick Daicos.. he only got 11 votes.. hes not even at Josh daicos's standard let alone nicks... lol

Rowell polling in multiple games where he did not get coaches votes is staggering.
New to the Brownlow? Happens every year. Especially amongst the leading few players, and more so the winning players. That being said, Rowell deserved it and still likely would have won it anyway, even if you remove some of those questionable games, and some for his nearest rivals too.

But the Brownlow is long broken anyway. It went from decades of umpires being able to recognize talent in forward, defence and ruck. To getting tunnel vision for midfielders, as it became a midfielder award. And now we get people scoring too highly vote wise, as well as polling in games where they were not even amongst the best few on the ground.

This is why many now rate the coaches and players awards as having more prestige. The whole voting thing needs an overhaul. Will proper post game analysis, as opposed to umpires viewing the game like super coach and handing votes to accumulators more than impact.

It's funny though. The NFL now has the same problem. Where voters cannot see beyond a QB. Something about modern aged people and the inability to remove bias and see wider pictures no more.
