Overpaying $ aside, pick 7 for Flanders gives an insight into how at least 1 club views the strength of this draft pool.

Suns surely bundle it for mid draft points if it goes that way.
I think if the Suns get pick 7 for Flanders they'll either use it to get Petracca/Curnow or look to trade up with us or WC.

Real chance wce trades 1 to Essendon if they are dead keen on Duursma.

If that happens I’m wondering if that changes again what we do with 3 & 4.

If that trade happens I don’t think we will split.

All the talk is Robey and X Taylor currently for us.
What does our backline look like if we draft Taylor? Seems to me we will have too many defenders unless someone gets pushed out to the wing.

I think it’s more for the 3-4 years from now.

In that time we will lose broad and probably Vlastuin and short.

Taylor may be deemed the best in that position across the next 2 drafts so appeals more.

I don’t know what we will do, or who we will pick (I have my own preference) but isn’t that what makes it so intriguing.

What I can say is that clubs will not be willing to trade future picks into this draft especially not the teams likely to be bottom with the changes happening.

Unsure the likelihood however if essendon offered 5 6 7 for 3 4, firstly would we do it/want to? And if we would who would we pick?
Feels like it could address a lot needs.
No. I want to use 3.

We can slide down 4.

Probably wont care. Would lose interest if that gimp Draper got them pick 7 🤣

I compared him to Jack Graham, so this might be directed partially at me!? Mid 180cm defensive mid with some athletic limitations describes each in a nutshell, doesn’t it? Both strong leadership, captaining their state at U18 level.

Sharp has been a stand out in his draft year, sure, but JGTI is well on his way to being a 250 game multi premiership winning afl player. I think he can be sold short by some due to a lack of athleticism. It certainly wasn’t meant to be disrespectful to Sharp! I guess combine testing will give us a better idea of where he sits, but I suspect if we’re expecting the second coming of Cotch we might be disappointed!

Sharp just doesn’t feel like a particularly “sexy” choice for a top 5 pick. Safe. But not sexy.
I think even to call him a defensive mid is reductive, he's the best contested player in the draft with daylight second. He'll never burst out of the contest like Cotch but to say he'll just be a role player like Graham isn't right either.

The two i like in terms of our needs from Twomey’s list are Dyson Sharp (9) and Josh Lindsay (11).

Maybe we offer Freo 3 for 11 and next year’s first, and hope they don’t win it (even if they do, the points are ok).

That way next year we could have a top 5 pick and somewhere around 12-19, in what is meant to be a stronger draft.

And get Lindsay (mini-Gulden) and a top 3 midfielder.

Get a ruck next year free agency, i presume Nank may head to Tassie for a couple of years with Benny in charge?
I can’t believe that username was still available.

No because they will take robey and i will weep uncontrollably

I don’t think we need Taylor, we already have our Vlaustin replacement in Tom Brown that will then allow Trainor to take Browns spot at HB.

We need midfield points of difference.
With the way the game is heading the more HF/Mid’s you can roll through the better so for me Cumming has to be top of our list, now if we pair him with Robey/Grlj/Sharp I’m ok with.
Grlj could easily go straight onto a wing for us but Robey does have that exciting unknown about him!

Sharp will be a solid 200 gamer no doubt but I do feel that Macauliff or Smillie could be that player for us that’s ultra reliable and effective.

I’m definitely leaning towards hoping we get 2 of Robey/Cumming/Grlj and will be stoked with that outcome.

Hate to break it but Brown isn’t even a certainty to be in our best 23. He’s going ok but he’s a fringe player in a good team. Taylor is potentially Vlastuin level which Brown is unlikely to ever go close to.

You say that but it’s clear that the coaches see him in the best 22 and he can definitely play!

He played every game this year so while you don’t rate him the club does.

Taylor doesn’t fit a club need at the moment and a top 5 pick on a someone who won’t push out any of our HB’s is a waste of a pick.

Essendon need a player like Taylor, not us.

I flip flop on him a bit. I guess the concern is his pace/athleticism. Is it something that will see him struggle to translate his game to AFL level footy? I’d not be overly confident of him ever being absolute A grade.

That said, as I was trying to think who else his game might be similar to (moving away from the Cotch/Jack Graham thing), perhaps you’d be hoping for a Tom Mitchell/Lachie Neale style player (just a bit taller)?

Have you seen Taylor take a contested mark? Me either.

XT takes contested marks (and spoils) where he can use his athleticism and judgement to position for the mark (such as 19sec, 2.55 and 3.10 in the vid), but can’t remember it where he needs to body up with a similar sized player.
