You started your post comparing a possible trading down our pick 4 with us trading our 2nd round pick to North.

How did that work out for North? Who actually traded their 1st round pick. Exactly my point, you shouldn't trade down your top picks because it's foolish.

2ndly we aren't getting pick 5 & 6 from Essendon so using that as an example is a waste of time and pure fantasy.

Club has 2 very high picks, it's just doesn't make sense to trade down at all.

My question was is our trade with North some clever trade or trickery.

It's not, these are simple trades that teams make.

I posted several other trades of clubs trading down.

And the 5 and 6 scenarioo was simply to show you, that trading down makes perfect sense at the correct price - I never said that is what it would cost, as that is obviously an outlandish trade that we would obviously accept. Hence, showing that "trading down picks is foolish" is a foolish statement, as you do it, if the offer is good.

Happened successfully many of times - Including the Brisbane lions who traded down from Taranto at 2, to McCluggage at 3 and Berry at 16, who then went on to make 3 grand finals in a row.

It makes perfect sense to trade down, if we want to target another player, or address 2 areas of need.

West coast would never offer us their future 1st. Your examples are ridiculous.

I am not saying that this would ever happen mate.

The point is that everybody here would do that trade, absolute no brainer. Hence the notion, "Dont split picks" is stupid.

If the offer is good, you split the picks.

You don't just refuse to do it

Of course, but the deal would have to be outrageously good to give up pick 4, otherwise, don’t split. I don’t think anyone would disagree if that was our strategy

On the topic of CDT I really hope we don't draft him.
Someone rightly pointed out that an Alex Dodson that heavily slid in last years draft would be very similar in potential and had nowhere near the draft collateral to get a similar outcome.

Trade in rucks is definitely the way to go and Richmond will be able to offer in the next few years:
-Opportunity as undisputed #1 ruck whilst Nank enters into his twilight years
-Front ended up contract value where they can be heavily compensated upfront
-Rising team where they can build a nucleus of a strong midfielder core for the next 5-10 years

Examples of trading in rucks for past 10 years are:

Nankervis for pick 46. Had only played 12 AFL games prior to the trade. 199cm ruckman

Witts to GC for pick 44 & 62. Had played 40 AFL games prior to the trade. 208cm ruckman

Vardy to WCE for pick 72. Had played 25 AFL games prior to the trade with injury history. 198cm ruckman

Hickey to WCE for pick 39 + F4 for 60 + F4. Had played 79 games prior to the trade. 201cm ruckman

Lobb to Freo for picks 11 + 19 for 14, 43 & 47. Had played 74 games prior to the trade. 206cm ruckman

Darcy Cameron for pick 56 and got 62 in return. Had played 1 game prior to the trade and 119 since. 204cm ruckman

Pittonet for picks 54 & 66 and got 61 in return. Had played 7 games prior to the trade and 73 since. 202cm ruckman

Preuss for picks 31. Had played 18 games prior. 206cm ruckman

Hickey to Syd for picks 58, 62, F2 (37 in the end) and F3 (48) and got pick 34 in return. Played another 49 games/3 seasons after the trade.

D Fort to Bris for picks 50 & F3 (ended up being 50) and got pick 41 in return. Played 8 games prior and could be a x2 time premiership player in 48hrs time. 205cm ruckman

L Jackson to Freo for picks 13, F2 (pick 34), F1 (pick 7) and got pick 44 in return. 199cm ruckman. Definitely the highest draft collateral out of all the above.

Grundy to Melb for pick 27
& then traded to Syd for pick 46 & F2. Has played almost 250 games.

Soldo to Port for 41, 49, F2 & F4 for pick 50 in return. Had played 57 games prior. 204cm ruckman.

Sweet to Port for pick 50. Had played 11 games prior. 202cm ruckman

The above list shows me that clubs can import rucks developed by others and they can flourish.
Most picks are 40+ carried out at the trade table.
Players like Nank, D Cameron and Fort also show you don't need to be unicorns or flashy around the ground to have productive careers that generate team success as role players as a ruckman.
Yep.
With a lot of #2's out there wanting to be #1.As soon as Nank says enough is enough we'll go shopping.
I'll spew if we take Duff.

There's also 4 good rucks in the next draft. I doubt they all go top 10 or even 1st round so can get a good young one next year.

The Greek freak in this years draft!!

But for those curious, Van Hattum, houndsome, Van rooyen and Herbert

All look to be genuine ruck size 12 months out too, so using THE_GUN height growth formula, they’ll all be 209-215cm by the draft.

I don't mind drafting Young Rucks from 2nd rnd onwards. If they're half good they would attract a 1st rnd later on if they choose to leave.
Would not surprise me if Blair is already into someone like Dobson or at the very least keeping tabs on him.
I don't mind paying a 1st for a Ruckman if he proves he's worth it in development stage at his original club.
You know what your getting.

Tbh with the amount of picks we have had and will have it wouldn't bother me but I just don't think CDT is a #1 ruck and then doesn't really differ from Sims.

Sims showed his capability as a contested marking forward against GWS. 3 contested marks from a 200cm bloke in his first few games is incredible.

If we were to go a ruck they need to be proper size and an elite mark for mine.

Assume Cumming won’t due to injury but don’t see why Grlj wouldn’t
I thought he injured his ankle in his final game?

I'm just trying to think of which players could really lock themselves into the top 4 picks with a good combine.

Not sure about ankle, got a bad corky 2nd last game it seemed.

Cumming didn’t have surgery and it’s been 2 and a bit months by combine since he injured his shoulder. His season only ended cos North Adelaide were shit and missed finals in seniors and u/18s.

So reckon he’s probably a good chance to test.

Left field suggestion… our links with WA talent and good scouting network. I wonder where Fred Rodriguez sits on our board. IF he is in our top 20 and still available on the board would we trade a F2/F3 to trade up and get him in (say around pick 25-35). Midfielder with speed, excellent skills that is a slow burn but could turn out to be an inspired pick.

Hearing he doesn't want to leave WA so doubt we would trade assets just to lose him.

How many players can Richmond rotate through the midfield?

Would love to somehow get Barker.
Did his knee so he'll go late 1st early 2nd.
Has Stuart Maxfield about him.

Would love him to be an option if we do split.
