If Chris Scott is a master of anything it is his ability to control opposition (and umpires) thinking, behaviour and reactions. Much like society is controlled to a large degree. Much of it is an illusion. And football is not exactly an academic pursuit. The way Brisbane played yesterday's final quarter reminded me so much of our threepeat years. Such an overwhelming display of skill, confidence and brute force with players continually taking risks that came off.
No Chris Scott team will ever get close to that because he's too controlling, calculated & safe. The truly great coaches give players the freedom to trust their own instincts and back themselves, which is naturally dependent on having lots of talent to work, but when it does no structure in the world can ever hold up against it.
