Houston needs to be told he is the man now and owns the hb line. A lot of ball to be distributed through him and construct play like he did at port. Time to take the training wheels off. Jaicos and Beau both mids as others have said.
I don't think Beau will be a proper mid for a while - more stoppages but then stay ahead of the ball. I don't think he'll have the endurance to cover the ground that the pure mids have.

As much as I hated May at GC and the Dees I think he could be just what we need - some extra physicality in the back line as I don't think the opposition talls don't fear Maynard as they have height on him.
Fly and the others may be able to get May back in line and that would be a huge plus for the Pies.
If we can come away from Trade period adding May and Buller anything else would be a bonus - we lose Checkers but if we can keep Billy and Bobby we are good.
We missed Bobby 2nd half of the year as he always makes at least 1 defender stay home or he will burn them with his pace.
I think everybody is concerned about his “flog” aspect but on pure performance, he has our Captain covered. Footy wise, he’d be a decent addition. May stats are on the left, Moore on the right.

You were watching different VFL games to me then, even the coaches singled out TJ's magoos form for praise which carries significantly more weight than your zero, makes me wonder if you've seen him play at all.
He is still miles off being a Lester & Starcevich level player

Spargo is going to North on 3 years as FA. Melbourne might look to just trade May for Mihocek rather than get him as a FA so as not to dilute any compo.

Still think we'll be a better side with May shoring up our defense and giving West an opportunity to do a Logan Morris.
Forgot about the Spargo move. Would be interesting to consider what Melbourne would give up for Mihocek.

for those wanting us to trade a big fish or grab a player before McCarthy (around 30ish bid), just a reminder these are our picks

Collingwood: 34, 52, 64, 70

With those we have to trade for Buller ( late pick swap) match a bid on McCarthy. Then add mcgaune which atleast will probably be 40’s plus.

We don’t have the currency to make moves unless we trade out of next year which nobody wants to do.

our interest in May would stem from Melb want him gone, so costs nothing

The strange thing with Jaicos is … didn’t he already win an All-Australian as a midfielder? Put him back there, Fly!

Wing.

He averaged 25 disposals and kicked 16.8 from 25 games in 2023.

He averaged 26.8 disposals this season at half back but unsurprisingly only managed 3.5 from 25 games.

I'm actually wondering if he could split his time between the midfield and half forward and we take inspiration from Bailey and Brisbane.

In 2026 we need to find more avenues to goal IMO.

Yet, looked like he had never seen a football in his one AFL match.....
He had some ok games in the VFL this season but as I said nothing to write home about. If the selection panel genuinely thought he was in the best core 26 to play this season, he would have in the second half of the year when we were missing key backline pieces.
But if you think Jiath is gonna be a player, more power to you.

Tbf, he was injured in the 2nd half of the year, so it was never an option.

We can have 2 automatic starting mids in Beau and Josh next year.
It’s what you want. It’s what I want. It’s what many of us want.
That and Houston / Perryman up the ground.
And HH mid.
And Allan in.
And Steele full time wing.

But will Fly do it?
My only criticism of him is the lack of originality/ persistence with these types of moves this year.

TJ needs awareness.
If he develops this, he could be anything.
If he doesn’t, he won’t make it.
IMO.

Anyone suggesting we trade Houston must be on drugs...or heat!!!
We've had him for one season FFS. We've seen what he is capable of. I'm speechless...more or less..I'm without speech....I don't know what to say.... I have no words....I'm....I'm....I'm just........SPEECHLESS
Rule change means more last touch free kicks between the arc - that makes Houston a huge weapon with his kicking accuracy and penetration if he plays wing.

An inside midfield rotation of Nick, Josh, Long, Beau, DeGoey, Perryman, Pendles looks fine on paper. Good mix of pace and grunt.

Just need to bolster our forward line (Buller, West, Harrison and more Bobby) and backline (Reef, Parker, Ryan hopefully Blight).

Still bullish on us.
I’d give IQ mid minutes and try Parker at HB. IQ has all the attributes to be an elite mid.

Tell me why.
Brisbane have shown the last 3 weeks grunt in the middle classy skilled players and dangerous small goal kicker fowards win you games and finals. In fact we were lucky to get away with 23.
McCreery and Schultz give great pressure (only need 1) but not much else.
Neither hit the scoreboard enough or offer up a lead up get out of jail kick option
Schultz does, he’s also able to push up to the stoppage and win his own ball and link up in transition.

On one of the podcasts Twomey predicted McGuane as a late/rookie pick now. Fwiw he also suggested McCarthy was in the 25 to 45 range. Still not that much currency but a lot less maneuvering than it looked like at the start of the year.
