2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Do you think?

Wilkie would be a massive loss. Not sure we can cover him.

I’m sure our brains trust really rate Freijah. Nicknamed the mini Bont. He looks an amazing talent.

Even so, I just can’t see us trading Wilkie under any circumstances.
The Wilkie paradox is really that we’d only trade him for overs and the dogs won’t give up overs, hence my comment I can’t see how it happens.

If we could turn Wilkie into freijah and the dogs first, then turn Roma and the dogs first into SDK I feel like we cover Wilkie (to a point) and improve our midfield massively for a guy who remains surplus to need imo.

Again, can’t see how any of it happens but that’s the terms I’d live with if Wilkie is to go. Nothing less.

Not sure how my post ended up on your board. I reported on Flanders pretty early. There is a group of business owners, Hollywood actors and ex stkilda leaders who get together and discuss this stuff and things get leaked. And yes I'm serious.

Not sure how true but heard that St Kilda is debt free. I don't follow you guys that closely. Just post what I get told
As I said, we will find out soon enough.

Heard that a couple of weeks ago, but can't remember where. Hope it's true lol
I think it was mentioned here, some heavy hitters paid off the debt.
Was in a discussion about the 1984 players getting back what they were owed from the 20 cents in the $$.

When do they announce the financial results for the year? That will tell us.
Depends when ( or if) it was paid off.
Prior to June 3Oth will be available in the next couple of months. If the 'donation' was for business write off reasons could be either side of EOFY. You would need a better accountant than me to name what the write off would be, I was never a book cooker or creative accountant, I was systems.

Gerry Ryan, Jaco Caravans owner
Interesting that a very long time supporter of the club has only chosen to help with the debt now.
Assume he obviously approves of the way the club is being run now.

The clubs financial year closes October 31. They were signed off and released end of November last year so expect the timeline to remain similar.
That makes sense. Contracts expire on 31st October. So if paid off will be in the results published in November.

It's why I keep saying to remove poster names from quotes stavro#4

It was a single business owner who sits in on the meetings I mentioned is my understanding.
I heard a whisper some time ago about this, can't remember where, in the vicinity of $6m I believe was our remaining debt.

The other interesting one was Moose toys coming on as partner sponsor at a similar time to those whispers, for those who don't know, they manufacture Bluey toys among others to over 80 countries, the owner is worth a cool $1.6b and is a Saints guy.

That figure is in the vicinity of what’s being offered apparently.

It’s very similar information to what I sent to a handful last week. Including that part that it was still under consideration which is effectively what Twomey is reporting tonight.

•Marshall and Steele aren’t seen as part of the long-term plans. Both are likely to be moved on if the right offer comes in during the off-season.

•Wilkie has a big offer on the table — around $1.5M a year for five years. He’s still considering it. We’re keen to keep him, but there’s a genuine possibility he’s traded if the value is right. Not sure if it’s connected, but Freijah was mentioned as a seriously talented prospect.

•Still actively looking to bring in more players.

I shared the above with a handful last week on here. I said to not share until something comes first. Well I think that’s enough “hits” to say it’s accurate.
Thanks Stav, appreciate it.

He’s not exactly an “inside mid” (for now, at least), but I wonder if that’s Humphrey?

I reckon 0 chance we get Freijah.

I reckon if Cal is going the target is Sanders.

Without getting into specifics. Is this possible?

Key pieces:
Pick 7 Wilkie Marshall

For

Flanders Sanders SDK

(Trade time is fun 😂🙃)
Sanders is not a long-term prospect and we are building for the future. He will go to Tassie and while we might get some good draft picks for him, that is losing a developed player to then start the development process over again and we lose what, 4 years on the player?

Except for the lose Wilkie part
For goodness sake I hope we don't lose Wilkie.
Wilkie is not a flashy, brilliant player.
But he is one of the most reliable, durable defenders we have had.
Wilkie is a critical player.
He is not 'in the elite company of Bruce Doull but like the Flying Doormat, he is cool in a crisis and rarely beaten.

Roma plus a 1st for SDK is treating Cotton On cats as a charity case. Huge overs

Much like we’d ask for overs on Wilkie so would the cats on SDK. I disagree it’s huge overs but I’m also not gonna argue semantics over a hypothetical that’s almost certainly not gonna happen.

If Wilkie is going (and I’d rather just keep him) then we somehow have to turn that into Friejah (minimum) and SDK or we’re going backwards, if it improves Geelong I couldn’t give a shit, what they do isn’t my concern.

His organisation down back is so important as well. Often plays 100% game time and rarely loses focus. Directs players around him which is vital in a well oiled outfit, and his communication style is easily understood.

One of Windhagers strengths as well, IMO. Able to maintain a competitive focus for lengthy periods of play, despite his youth, and players respond to his direction.
