Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Apart from a gift from Sydney in 2022, they've been pretenders rather than contenders for over a decade.

Might be time for them to re-think the strategy. Rhys Stanley is part of the problem.

Last time they were a genuinely good side was with Brad Ottens.
They’ve played in 3 grand finals the past decade but they haven’t been contenders?

Makes sense

Good story, losing best 22 players and replacing them with players no better than players we have delisted or moved on over the last 2 or 3 years and then call them solid depth players. We should never be recruiting for depth it should be recruiting to improve.
Best 22 in "talent", but the efforts TDK and Charlie put in were absolutely diabolical majority of the season.

The supremely talented can be fools gold at times, I'd argue pound for pound that our list is better than the cats on "talent", yet who was in the grand final?

Does anyone think west coast or essendon will give up their future 1st those 2 will be bottom 2 next yr. I really want multiple top 10 picks next yr
Not just for Cody but a couple of live picks would be awesome

Ess will want 2027 1st to pay for Bewick. They're a good chance to do business.

West Coast, I can only see them willing to give it up if Chad Warner wants to go there. So, extremely unlikely to happen.

As for multiple top 10 picks next year... that will be very difficult.

We def need one F1 out of the Charlie trade. That is a non negotiable for me.

Swans give us #11 + F1 (there'll be more to it but just focusing on picks)

In that case, we have #10 + #11, we go to North or Demons or any club we think will yield a top 10 next year. So #10 + #11 for a decent F1 is doable. Our first pick this year will likely be consumed by a Dean bid anyway.

2027 1st + F3 to Ess for their 2026 1st.

Total gain: F1 (Ess), F1 (North/Demons), F1 (Swans)

Total cost: #10 + #11 + 2027 1st + F3

If we trade Charlie I see it as a sign the club dont see themselves as flag contenders next year and are happy to reset over the next 1-2 years, get games into kids and then have another crack while McKay, Cripps, Weiters are still around.

If thats the case, I dont think the clubs bench mark is improving the list for next year. More about putting building blocks in place.

As an aside, I can't believe how far this Ugle-Hagan to the Suns talk has gone.

If there's one city that would be disastrous for him without super close watch it's the Gold Coast.
Tend to agree being on the party strip, but I feel if there is any coach who could get JUH to focus enough on footy, Hardwick would be one...

I assume that this is a rumour that Mark Seaby is coming out of retirement to play for the Power

This absolutely should be the approach...but doesn't gel with a guy coaching for his future.

Disagree,

Khamis isn’t going to change anything he can’t get into the dogs back line one of the weakest in the AFL. We need defenders which can actually play on a man not another intercept defender. Just look at lions Backline having players that can beat their man is so important, it enables counter attack so easily compared to our defence where the answer is just get everyone back there guarding space, which all it takes is a basic lead to open us up.

Chesser, might be good but I’m worried about his injury history.

Reid I know nothing about apart from being a good WAFL player.

Trading picks this year does not help us, we are probably going to need two first next year to match a bid for Walker.

Plus if we are an option for Butters next year we are going to need picks for that as well.

We are therefore better off holding Charlie to his contract and telling Cats if they want him in 12 months time they better be prepared, thinking two late firsts is acceptable is insulting.

I believe someone had said Buku was being looked at for the forward 50 not defensive 50.

Hate? - imo the posts about curnow have been significantly more civil/nicer than JSOS - and if you compare JSOS vs Curnow actions, the latter comes out a lot worse given 4 years remaining on contract…
A bloke that apparently wanted out for success, not the cash but then goes to a s**tstain of a club to be with Daddy, for a massive pay rise.
A bloke who puts out an AI statement on how much he loves the club and will always support the club yet pisses off to be with Daddy.
Nah, he can get stuffed and imo comes out a lot worse than a bloke who’s just a kid with a lack of intelligence who has been mislead by his management.

Sydney seem to be good at getting the best out of their players. Not sure why they haven't looked at him.

Because his problems run deeeeeeeep

Also there's some players at the Dogs who are close to Adam Kennedy, a Sydney assistant. They'll have asked their questions.

Something like?

Eagles out - Pick 2, Chesser
Eagles in - TDK Compo, Sydney 1st, Acres

Port out - Butters
Port in - Pick 2 + Sydney F1

Carlton out - Curnow, TDK Compo, Acres
Carlton in - Butters, Chesser, Sydney F2, Florent

Sydney out - 2025 1st, 2026 1st, 2026 2nd, Florent
Sydney in - Curnow, probably some added steak knives
Is that enough for eagles though? Or do you add the future 2nd to them and we get 3 players

I don't like the way the list managers have approached the last two seasons. Getting rid of quality players and match winners for draft picks in a weak draft is a huge risk to take.
Who have we gotten rid of that is quality or a net loss at all? I'd suggest it's nobody. We've had a couple of players walk because of FA offers that were ridiculous—nobody else I'd consider to be approaching quality that we didn't gain from trading out.

Don't get me started on SOS, the club should be ashamed of itself for letting that happen
Should we have matched St.Kilda's offer for a player who has not been available to play as often as he's been available to play over ten years?I'd say if anybody should be ashamed , it should be Jack. I do however, understand that he was offered a contract beyond his worth, so from that perspective I can understand it—nothing to do with the club at all.

Can probably afford to pay TDK $1.65M
The difference between us and St.Kilda is that we wouldn't be that stupid as to pay him that much.

Thanks for illustrating my point - the amount of hate or venom directed at JSOS has been significantly more than Curnow.

JSOS
  • Onfield played with his heart on his sleeve through his career at Carlton/has never been accused of not giving a shit.
  • Arguably has always been a fringe player (so not as well renumerated as many of his peers), out of contract and and did not feel as if he was receiving an adequate offer for his next contract (media reports of feeling undervalued rather than seeking success as your post suggested).
  • Chose to exercise his FA rights and due to the nature of the offer, we are likely to receive compensation above anything anyone would have predicted at the start of 2025 if he were traded

Curnow
  • Been heavily accused of not caring enough/not being invested through the season and has displayed poor body language in previous seasons
  • Has always been well remunerated by the club and is currently on a very well remunerated contract
  • Despite having another 4 years left on a contract that Curnow originally agreed to, is looking to exit his contract/move clubs because of ‘lifestyle reasons’

Both players started exploring opportunities outside of the club mid season. One was contracted for another 4 years, one was out of contract and well within his rights to look for more money.

On one hand you have a go a JSOS but on the next breath dismiss Curnows actions because he is just a kid? Of the 2 players JSOS is actually 10 months younger…

I’m as disappointed as anyone that JSOS is exiting the club but take emotion out of it and look at the facts.

St kilda being a s**tstain of a club? - I’ve hated them since Hamill defected but let’s be honest here - the Blues have had a worse record than the Saints for all of this century. Are we really in any position to be denigrating other clubs when we have had one of the worst records in the comp over the past 25 years? (5 spoons since 2000 ie 20% of seasons, amongst the least finals series alongside Essendon...)

The difference between us and St.Kilda is that we wouldn't be that stupid as to pay him that much.
They’re relevant again accordingly to Pres Bassat.
Target on their back because of their recruiting drive but they’re not here to make friends.

More a target on your back because you’re a whinging pillock on F/S & Academy topics.
